    Drumbrutes are the most underated drum machines ever made. I run my original thru a sherman and a pitch delay and kills any other drum machine i have even the jomox alpha

      No velocity is a big let down and weak midi in general. I get they want it to be a performance tool, but it could have made so much more versatile.

    • @moralrevulsionLive
      @moralrevulsionLive ปีที่แล้ว

      @@reecedeyoung6595 it could. But on their price range it couldnt. The idea of the drumbrute is simple. Brute...raw. naked. As for the rest you can Add a t resonator by jomox and ya good to go mate. I have a rytm a jomox and a 909. Drumbrute is shit ahaha but trust me when i tell you on a sherman and a t reso. Man. It kills em all. Like.. all. It has the dirtiest kick on the market im talking bout the original drumbrute .impact is tard more hifi. I feel arturia could have made the best possible drum machine out there if they wanted to but they choose to aim their weapons having easily the best mono and one of the most versatile polys ever made. They french they like simplicity on drums on a deep huge modulation of everything else

    life goals right here, well done
    I can play any instrument with a string proficiently, but man, these modern drum machines and recording programs feel so overwhelming to me when I sit down with them
    feels like taking a collegiate tech class for the first time, haha, just so much to it all

    • @RickHowell
      @RickHowell  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I used to play a lot of classical instruments, and this is definitely a whole new ball game. I view it more like constructing a musical algorithm to be interacted with, which I find to be a gratifying intersection of musicality and technology. It feels more like conducting to me, than playing.
      That being said, I think a lot of it is pretty overwhelming too haha

    Hi my friend, I just ordered the Drumbrute Impact after watching your videos on it.
    I'm just wondering how do you get the reverb to sound on the different tones on the unit apart from the kick drum?
    Are you routing the kick to a different output route?

    • @RickHowell
      @RickHowell  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I actually only have two channels on my ADC. One of the channels is the FM drum, and the other is the rest of the mix. I wanted to send the FM drum into a ping pong delay, which is why I split it like this. The rest of the mix is doing some weird multiband splits in my DAW so that I can process the lows, mids, and highs separately, but the source is still just the entire mix minus the FM drum

      @@RickHowell Thanks mate, I received it a couple of days ago. I'm actually suprised by how good it is.
      I love the random feature, it breathes new life into beats.
      I have it hooked up to an original Roland MC 909 via 5 pin midi which are hooked up to an MC 707. All 3 are midi clock synced to an Arturia keystep Pro.
      I feel now that the DB impact has completed my drum rhythm parts, so easy to use, very quick to use, and that random knob function is nothing short of a God send.

    I am a beginner to the music production (trance, rave, electronic, chillout). What drum machine would you recommend me for drum beat & more importantly, "kick" creation? Most modern EDM productions on Beatport have a very weak / dry / thin "kicks" and I don't want to sound like that. I'd like to be able to create very powerful, thick kicks and drum beats. I think better drum beats / kicks were generated in the late 90s and early 00s. What would you recommend? Also...should it be an external hardware machine or it's better to generate kicks/drum beats through a plug-in already within my DAW? which option generate better / fuller / thicker sounds and which option is more handy when it comes to music creation process ?

    • @RickHowell
      @RickHowell  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're just getting into things, I would recommend experimenting around with the basic tools you have already. Assuming you have a DAW with a basic synthesizer and effects, You can start synthesizing kick drums by adding a snappy pitch envelope to an oscillator at bass frequencies, and then adding compression / distortion / filters / whatever else you feel like experimenting with. When you figure out the direction you want to take your kick drums, then you can decide for yourself what to look for in a drum synthesizer, because it will be different for each person.

    This is so sick!! Do you find you are more creative using this machine compared to programming drums into a DAW? I use a computer all day for work and it can be draining to stare at a screen to program elements. I'm looking into more hardware stuff to create tracks and inspiration.

    • @RickHowell
      @RickHowell  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely. That might be the only motivation to go into hardware at this point haha. There is a problem that many people with hardware find in that it can be a creative outlet to the point where people won't publish any music, because the process of recording definitely breaks the 'creative flow'.

  • @narky594
    @narky594 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Super newbie question, but how did you set it up to add effects through FL? USB into a computer? And separating the different instruments or no?

    • @RickHowell
      @RickHowell  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's definitely something that doesn't get talked about so don't feel bad for asking! But I actually use an audio interface and connect the audio output from my drumbrute into that in order to get synths into FL. Because the interface only has two inputs, I can only record two separate tracks at a time, which is why there's two audio cables sticking out of the back

    How would you go about to achieve this kick sound using only hardware?

    • @RickHowell
      @RickHowell  ปีที่แล้ว

      Only hardware would be a little tough, but if you send a kick drum through a reverb / delay, low pass, and compressor, you can get the rumble. Run that in parallel to the original kick, and compress the hell out of both of them. That's what I did here, but in software.
