Just to be clear, this is not their 'in house' sound. They sounded really good in the venue and they were mixed properly. The vocals were balanced and the live and pre-recorded instruments were well-mixed and balanced. The video you guys are watching is a raw video and it's directly recording the mics and their instruments. No editing that's why it sounded kinda-off ( but still good). If it was mixed well to their proper frequencies, etc, this live would have been amazing :) But for me, Wakana struggled a lot in the YK lives after the 2012 lives ( 2011 is the year where she started to sound more 'nasal' ). Wakana and Hikaru's voices were affected a lot after 2012. I still love and support them though. The band's playing improves over time too. ( My favorite lives were the 2008 - 2013 lives ). I think it's because YK lives before were more carefree and they weren't shy of being crazy on stage but YK lives now are more organized and they have to act proper on stage ( but in some instance like the YK live #16 were they show their goofy sides and it makes the live really enjoyable ). I love YK LIVES so much.
Coming back to this unedited video, I begin to really see the critical importance of intentionally mixing live audio for the vocalists (and instruments), some of whom may just naturally sing quieter or louder than others. Direct mic recording is raw recording indeed! I will definitely use this realization to help my local choir/band sound better since we don't have professional sound people on staff! I think the ladies needed to come out of their random craziness stage as they became more of an example band with high success and visibility in the media and playing larger venues. The fun times were the intimate times with small dedicated fanbases. It was Keiko and Kaori that were the most playful on stage obviously, so I'm sure they missed it the most!
@@TheSeeking2know Thankfully the last show they had on Tokyo (back in August 2023) had plenty of fun interactions like that. I don't think it was recorded though, so we probably won't have a video of it. It's also very likely that the interactions were cut off from video recordings or weren't part of that day because of the video recording.

More thoughts: 😅 54:46. Yuriko's "iya iya iya..." had a breathy tone but was consistently phonated. When she leads she tends to always do this "bouncy dynamic/ staccato" thing, but she doesn't do it here the same way she doesn't do it in her falsetto sections (which are always consistently phonated or intentionally fragile, dynamically). I suspect this dichotomy it is partly due to her habits from her vocal stylistic influences, and maybe her way of singing in Japanese and emphasizing the language while singing. Compare with Kaori at 55:46 singing "Chi-i-sa-a-na-a" doing a little staccato thing which I am not sure is from the language or a stylized way of singing. I have noticed a LOT of Japanese singers do things like that makes me think it's a bit of both reasons. Maybe Yuriko just over-emphasizes this tendency when singing lead or duet lyrics in her chest voice. 57:30 Keiko in trying to lighten her tone as much as possible goes quite breathy and drops in and out of a little bit of a fuller tone. The effect is that the full richness of her voice isn't heard all through. I also suspect it tires out her voice a lot more than usual. Hearing her singing this line in her full tone would be interesting. I know she does a lot of work to try to lighten her voice to match those around her, except when going all out with a belting Kaori or Hikaru. 1:12:36 Yuriko again did that bouncy thing on singing "ka-as-tiiiaaa" (not Japanese language) which leads me to think again that it's a stylistic thing for her. 1:34:49. Kaori's voice lost energy and also fell apart a bit going off pitch like twice even at the end of her vibrato. 1:52:58. Hear Yuriko come in with a low counterpoint (singing the same thing as Keiko at the beginning of the song, same pitches) with a consistent tone, showing good airflow and control even that low (I would actually be interested in hearing Yuriko start the song) and see that handoff of the repeat back to Keiko just after 1:53:14 (little tonal / volume difference, proving Yuriko nailed it). And she can go higher than all of them in falsetto! This is why I talk about her relative consistency and range in this group.
I am torn with this live. Part of me appreciates the fact that the veil is removed for an entire live and we get to hear and know their voices and proclivities in an unedited setting. This is pure. The other part is critical of the issues I hear. It is not easy to sing live and to blend especially when you have very different singers on stage with limited time and training to refine their blending. Furthermore, singing fast is hard enough as one person, talk less of multiple singers trying to blend independently. I say this as a weekly live singer in my church choir recognizing the challenges of blending disparate voices but these ladies are professional singers and that's why the spotlight is more focused on them. I was reminded of Yuki Kajiura's admonition to Keiko and Wakana to not feel they have arrived (can't recall what year that was) and that there was still a journey of improvement in front of them (essentially not to think they'd arrived) though that might have been earlier in their years. Overall, for this live, I will say Kaori's voice sounded strong in many places across her range (including quite low in the duet with Keiko) and she has always had good and consistent vibrato. She has stronger head voice than Wakana (actually voice altogether), only next to Yuriko in quality of tone, though her voice faltered a bunch of times (such as in "stone cold" and "Ever;). Also, and I will repeat, Yuriko, Keiko, and Kaori are the prime FJ trio in terms of blend and dynamics. Keiko has a lot to do in remembering her complicated lower harmonies, and switching volume and dynamics to match the others whether as a co-lead, duet harmony part, or lower voice for full harmony. I feel she sometimes overdoes the dynamic changes at a few points where a strong consistent tone would have been better. 5:19 Wakana's voice really fell apart for a minute... I was shocked! 7:03 First sign of hope for this live with the harmonies coming in (phew!). 8:10 Wakana didn't have subtlety. She threw off the soft harmony formed between Yuriko and Kaori. 10:16 Wakana's head voice is more airy than I thought. "Himitsu" sounded reasonably OK with Yuriko's voice. 25:32 Wakana and Kaori came in strong and their voices almost matched in forward tone (bravo!), while Keiko stayed appropriately warm. This section was the strongest part vocally of the live as at this point. 27:41 "Dreamscape". Kaori was virtually the same as post-edit. Her voice is strong and her dynamics come through well. In fact it was Keiko that didn't project sufficiently to match her on their singing the word "dreamscape" together. 29:03 Difference in how Yuriko and Wakana approached the same three notes. "Houseki". Keiko sounded just like herself with or without post-edit. "Mizu no Akashi". This is the Wakana that sings solo lives. Seems like their voices are strongest when they sing solo. It's the harmony sections that really revealed their stark differences in timbre, breathing styles, stamina, control, etc. 56:47 That harmony with Kaori and Yuriko was nice, especially with Kaori jumping to her head voice, which she does well 9 times out of 10. "Hikari no Yukue" Wakana's pitch precision issues were a little exposed as she didn't blend neatly at the beginning with just the low strings until the rest of the instruments came in. I think it was just her somewhat covered timbre that didn't allow the notes to sit well and go with the light instrumentals at the beginning. A more forward and clearer tone would have been better. I feel Yuriko or Kaori would have been more precise or appropriate in her place. 1:13:22. Wakana's breath management... culminating in her voice breaking apart again at 1:13:29. Seriously, what was going on with her? Is this common? It happened again later. 01:13:57 "Hanamori no Oka". Kaori did really well as lead and Yuriko and Keiko blended well with her. It was like it was just the three of them on stage. Their vibratos and dynamics (singing softly or gliding up in volume) blended as well which is very important especially at 1:16:12 where they sang 3-part harmony. Strong blend! This is FJ! Keiko was perfect for "Everlasting song"! 2:04:45. Kaori and Yuriko nailed the "solta dista" section with matched vibrato and similar tone (Kaori lightened her tone to make it more heady, which matched Yuriko). Sweet. Little editing if any required. (Edited to correct grammatical errors / misspellings).
@@roycejohnsolquillo I appreciate the comment and the compliment. Glad to be in the Yuki Kajiura club. Kalafina was my inroad (and my favourite personality is still Hikaru!) but FJ has the best overall vocals.
1:49:36 Showed the difference between a contralto and a mezzo. Both Keiko and Kaori were singing a G3 and Keiko's was still full but suitably breathy, while Kaori's was very shallow. Very understandable.
They sure did :) wish a mixed version was released. But some of the songs here were in Best of YK Live 2010-2013 CDs. You can hear the mixed versions there.
@@TheSeeking2know this is what i feel too. She has the least problem staying in tune and her tone is mostly even, it's just her dynamics choices that are sometimes questionable that it gives the allusions that she doesn't sound as good. Yuriko also kinda has this problem but it's mostly because pop singing isn't what she trained in, she's a clasically trained vocalist. Keiko's problem in a way is the exact opposite of the other ladies, especially in Kalafina where Wakana and Hikaru don't really play with their dynamics much but has a lot more problem of staying in tune.
@@renklav4322 Glad we agree on that. So it's the MUSICALITY that she needs to improve on (how and where to place the dynamics), and I think that probably comes more with immersing herself in rich vocal music some more, and not getting carried away with the emotion, because I think that's where some of the dynamic choices come in. Sometime the unnecessary glides actually take her out of tune! Yuriko's dynamics issues come with singing lead in her chest voice. It's more of a stylistic mismatch for her. She just changes dynamics continually like she's bouncing up and down.
@@renklav4322 Listen to 2:04:50 where Kaori and Yuriko were doing the "solta dista", Keiko replaced Kaori a few seconds later but her volume / energy didn't match and instead brought down the effect of the handoff. This makes me wonder what they were hearing in their in-ears, definitely not the raw unmixed audio we're hearing since I would imagine Keiko would have been adjusted her volume.
Thank you so much for uploading this. I remember watching this when the live was just done/ or it was streamed live? Anyway, it was the first time I got to hear the unedited live. Ngl I was a bit shocked becos it's not the "perfect" live I used to be listening to, but soon I realised it's the reality of live sing. I had been their live before, but at the moment you'll only be blown away by the atmosphere and their amazing performance right there. The unedited livestream allowed me to listen to the real colour of their voice, the human touch - be it a specific phrasing, an off-pitch moment, sign of struggling and happiness - in short, the HUMAN and LIVE elements. This makes it so precious. I've been trying my best to find it but it was probably deleted by the official accounts. I'm so happy to find this unedited version in 2022. Yes it might expose some of the flaws like how it confirmed my worry for Wakana as the vocal person she had to take over eventually took a toll on her vocal, but it also allowed us to listen to their real voice without being tuned into a overly-perfect and piercing sound.Thank you!
I am happy you appreciated it :) Hopefully this will not be taken down. I have some pre-2008 Yuki Kajiura lives too if you like. I made a playlist. Haha
I am really interested in hearing this raw version of the current FictionJunction. I suspect we got a bit of that un-mixed sound in the Crunchyroll Anime Awards livestream but with incomplete audio capture (affecting Keiko and Yuriko) and balancing issues (all of which I complained bitterly about).
I have a raw audio also of their entire performance at Germany, this August 2023. That version of Sokyu no Fanfare was the best for me. It was way better than the original singers ( Reona, Asca, Eir Aoi ). Fictionjunction when done right IS THE BEST.
@@roycejohnsolquillo Hey there! I am pumped by your quick responsiveness! So the Animagic 2023 Sokyou no Fanfare did not include the original singers? All FictionJunction? Well that will be a treat to hear! Do share if it is at all possible! The original singers were so all-over-the-place in their vocals that there was next to no blend. I liked Eir Aoi and Haruna Luna the best from their guest vocalists for that song. I am also totally excited to hear that entire FJ concert performance in its unedited version, salvaging in my mind the travesty of the Crunchyroll Anime fiasco!
@TheSeeking2know I usually upload the vids and or their stuffs first as soon as they get released but it gets blocked by TH-cam all the time. Lol. But Ghost ( A YK channel we love ) was able to re-upload them. Give me your gmail, I can share it to you :)
1:39:19 Keiko's voice needed no editing at this beginning. I was surprised at how strong her voice. Contrasted with Wakana's weaker/unstable start (though the notes were low for her) and her pitch wobbled a bit until she went up to the belt. Dynamics weren't totally on point. Yuriko was on point with her technique and vibrato with Wakana weakly doing low harmonies for her. Kaori was a little unstable on the low notes and when transiting through her registers, because of needing go to nasal. Keiko was stable as a wave and Yuriko floating like a butterfly. That's why I call them the "heaven and earth" of Yuki Kajiura's vocal world. (I've been undergoing vocal training so my views are getting more refined as I re-listen).
1:49:36 Showed the difference between a contralto and a mezzo. Both Keiko and Kaori were singing a G3 and Keiko's was still full but suitably breathy, while Kaori's was very shallow. Very understandable.
2:03:50 Just listen to Keiko settle into this section with the lightened instrumentation, and especially building to a louder (forte) dynamic at 2:03:53 at the same time as the guitar strum, creating cumulative effect! Masterful if she was taking note of the guitar work to complement it! That will Keiko to a whole new level if I can confirm that as something she actually does. Need to check for interplay with the instruments in future watching of lives.
Woow, I found another gem! Thank you! :D I think I remembered buying the online ticket to watch this concert online, and I'm pretty sure this is the one I was watching back then! Somewhere around 2012 ... ? Well, I guess this is how they really sound live without any "heavy" sound editing :))
@@NightmareFairy666 Yeah, I mean not necessarily regarding vocal, but also the band members. In some parts, there were musical instrument too overshadowing others. But I guess in DVD, it's been fixed?
I love Yuriko's vibrant vibratos with every syllable she sings. Something about it just WORKS, and I feel like she's the only member who can pull off those little warbles in her voice. Some would say it's an acquired taste, but I think it's a relaxing and beautiful sound once you learn to listen to it properly. She could sing me lullabies any night.

@@fv1170 I get that this performance exposed how damaging the style she had to sing in, but if you listen closely, she sounded just fine in her comfortable range. What sounds painful is the higher range. It's due to 1. overworking (they did so many lives) 2. having to sing in a certain style for so long, which is demanding (you can clearly tell that it's not the most natural form of her singing esp. if you listen to her current singing) and it's not the healthiest style tbh. It clearly has taken a toll on her vocal. Plus the nasality make her prone to be flat, so she sounded even more off. It shows how her vocal is impacted by the singing habit and style that she's been using throughout the years, but it's not so accurate to say that she can't sing or "lose faith in her singing abilities" - the technique are there, altho definitely need to be fixed and let go, but it's still there. Tbh if she doesn't possess skill she wouldn't be able to endure the damage brought by the style she has to sing in for so long. I'm happy that she can sing in a more natural form now, she strains much less and she can finally open up as she doesn't need to take up that "goddess-ish" nasal form of singing.
@@user-rr9xm5yq4z It wasn't just this performance though. There were multiple performances were she was just bad, before and after the vocal change. She's definitely more stable now, but her pitch is still so-so, vibrato too fast, and head voice is... can't even call it head voice cause it's really bad. Plus, for some reason her voice shakes The singing style wasn't bad or damaging per see, rather her technique was very flawed and she never looked for guidance. She took vocal lessons before joining Kajiura, and didn't receive any coaching until after Kalafina disbanded.

(eternal blue の歌詞も間違えてましたし💦 2:10:03 )
1:49:36 Showed the difference between a contralto and a mezzo. Both Keiko and Kaori were singing a G3 and Keiko's was still full but suitably breathy, while Kaori's was very shallow. Very understandable.
Sayonara solitia, even without balancing, without mixing still sounded amazing!! Yuriko, keiko and Kaori 最高!
They sure did :) wish a mixed version was released. But some of the songs here were in Best of YK Live 2010-2013 CDs. You can hear the mixed versions there.
Yes those three are it for me. They blend quite well matching vibrato and placement fairly closely.
6:40 Years have gone but i still love Yuriko as solist in "Here we stand in the morning dew".
Keiko sounds amazing even without post edit
I agree. Her tone is almost consistent all the time. It’s just her dynamics choices I don’t always feel are optimal.
I agree.
Haha
I don't know why they make the Michiyuki (Loveless) song short in their concerts. Its such a beautiful song.
Keiko and Kaori sound phenomenal!
They sure do. The most consistent in this live I think.
They do sound great together.
@@roycejohnsolquilloIf I may... can I have the link to the video as well?
Please share more Yuki Kajiura content~
Thank you! :D
I think I remembered buying the online ticket to watch this concert online, and I'm pretty sure this is the one I was watching back then! Somewhere around 2012 ... ?
Well, I guess this is how they really sound live without any "heavy" sound editing :))
Yeah but they sure improved with time
@@NightmareFairy666 Yeah, I mean not necessarily regarding vocal, but also the band members. In some parts, there were musical instrument too overshadowing others. But I guess in DVD, it's been fixed?

2:04:45. Listen to Yuriko and Kaori singing that Kajiurago and blending fairly well, including jumps to head voice from Kaori.
@Tyler Klause I can Imagine.
I LOVE her voice!
The emotion captured by the fragility she can achieve (without going breathy) in her voice is a unique flavour in this group.
Thanks for this one Kuya Royce 😍😍🙏✨
Compare Kaori's harmony part with Yuriko at 2:09:00 to Wakana's from 2:09:13. Kaori's voice was definitely stronger.
Thank you so much for uploading it

ピッチ調整がしてない生歌だ、この音源どうしたんですか?
Wahnsinn wie es ohne Effekte klingt. Schon sehr anders als gewohnt. Was ein professioneller Mix alles bewirken kann :-)
Exactly! And maybe a little pitch correction for some of the pitch and stability mistakes.
Do you happen to have another Yuki Kajiura concert ?
I have all of them. Even the pre-2008 LIVES. I posted some of 'em. Maybe I should make a playlist hahah.
@@roycejohnsolquillo yes, please. That would be awesome~

@@itsuki9789 Haha I'll try. But I have all live concerts available for Yuki Kajiura. But unfortunately, yes, they get blocked.. So when I upload something, the video only last for a week HAHA
di nmn ako bias anoo pero baket mas in love ako sa japanese songs compared to korean..... sabagay kc puros love song lang ang korean di tulad ng anime japanese music ut has variety depende sa kung ano type ng anime....
Anime music is not restricted by any genre so they have more freedom in making their music..

I think this is 'rejected' version of Live recording since the sound mixing so bad and low quality.
Not really rejected. There's just no plans to sell ir turn the video to Blu-ray HAHA. There's actually a video for other Yuki Kajiura lives (like #3 and 5 ) but they didn't try to make money out of it.

Oh man, the memories. This is the concert that completely killed Wakana's live singing for me.
Really? How? Was she getting hospitalized after this ... ?
@@MsDwiAndi No, I mean her performance was really bad and I just lost any faith I had in her abilities.
@@fv1170 Yeah, compared to 2008 Tsubasa Chronicle's Era, it looked too different somehow.
Plus, for some reason her voice shakes
The singing style wasn't bad or damaging per see, rather her technique was very flawed and she never looked for guidance. She took vocal lessons before joining Kajiura, and didn't receive any coaching until after Kalafina disbanded.
Wakana keeps on flatting her notes in this performance. Can't be perfect every performance right?
Yeah she went flat for extended periods, also sometimes her voice failed altogether and other times she ran out of breath.
Love these girls but not digging the audio quality of this video.
