One of the best versions of this song I've heard in quite sometime. I regret that I never got to see Marty perform live on stage, he left all his fans with a big whole in their heart when he passed away. Thanks for posting! God Bless, Jeff
Hi Aussie thankyou for getting in touch you just wouldn't believe but I just listened to this version myself yesterday because a friend from Canada liked my version so I thought I would look up Marty's version and I have to say it is beautifull. Thanks For Getting in Touch and Take Care Dennis P.R.
So many great songs. For me, my favorite Marty self-penned song is Pride and the Badge. All the songs he wrote are great. Lennon and McCartney even had a few that were so so.
Marty was not just a country singer; there was no kind of music he couldn't turn his voice to. He was up with the very best vocalists of the 20th century and he was probably more versatile than any of them.
Loved Marty Robbins...he had a voice like none other...Especially love his song Walking Piece of Heaven...don't know why it is so hard to buy a copy of that song...can't find it anywhere...sad cause i would love to have it in library of music...but he will always be a favorite of mine...Saw him back in the early 70s in concert in Ohio.
First time hearing Marty do this great Merl Haggard song,Dont usually like covers of someones song however Marty hits this one out of the ball park. of course Marty sings anything GreatThanks
I love Merle, but Marty's my favourite country singer, and I have to say there isn't a lot in it, but I think Marty just edges it ,he has so much emotion in his wonderful voice.
Egad, a fantastic song-writer in his own right, doing a Merle Haggard tune. It makes you wonder why.cause Marty could (and did) write with the very best of 'em. Neve-the-rless, he did a great job on this - his talent was amazing,
Merle never wrote this tune. It was written by Hank Cochran and Glenn Martin. Merle and Marty both released their versions in the same year, 1972. Merle obviously had the more successful version.
@@FRLN500 My bad, for thinking Merle wrote it. Regardless, it's a great tune and makes one pine for the days when country music was really Country Music.

Marty Robbins was a first class country singer. He will always be remembered bu all country fans. Thanks
Not just country fans. Pete Townshend wrote a song about Marty. And of course, Marty wrote a song about Gene Autry.

Marty could sing Sinatra's kind of music. But Sinatra could not sing Marty's kind of music.
