  • Oct.29 -- Brookfield Asset Management Inc. Chief Executive Officer Bruce Flatt isn’t buying the narrative that the Covid-19 pandemic will empty city skyscrapers for good and devastate retail real estate. In this interview, he explains his confidence in a return to pre-virus norms and describes why Brookfield stands to thrive in a zero-rate world. He spoke exclusively to Erik Schatzker on “Bloomberg Front Row.”

“Anyone who thinks these cities are going away hasn’t read the history books” Detroit. No one is saying they are disappearing, what people are saying is things are changing and certain cities are going to change, economies change over time and wealth shifts. Anyone who thinks cities stay rich forever hasn’t read a history book, the world is dynamic. Cities in general will continue to be economic hubs however which ones become the largest hubs is the real question. Much respect to Brookfield, I myself own quite a bit of BAM in my Roth, I know they will adjust to any such trends.

@@ericmancini3120 Good luck getting start ups and small businesses to increase demand when they realize they are way more efficient from home without the daily one hour commute downtown. It will definitely be a buyer's market when everyone realizes that all of the capital moved out of the cities into the suburbs/rural single family homes since people can work from home effectively. I work at a freaking law firm and the firm is doing great with work from home and there is virtually no pressure to return to the office. It is more of a hassle going to the office than it is to work from home. Don't see that changing in the next two years.
