I learned from my great Aunt how to sew and embroidery at age 10. She made many quilts and I’m very happy to own three of them now. When I was 22 and my children were young I started cross stitching and love it. I made many gifts for family and friends during that time in my life. Now I’m 63 and I started stitching again last year and am so happy and excited to be stitching again. I love that we have a floss tube community now with so much information and stitcher friends. My husband said I’m obsessed with everything stitching now that I’m retired and I guess I am. I spend my time stitching and watching floss tubes and it brings me such joy and comfort. Thank you so much for sharing such great information. I always look forward to watching your videos. I love 1, 3, 4, 5, 6. Thanks again Elizabeth Markham

I’ve had a needle in my hand since I was in 7th grade and I learned how to sew in Home Ec class. We sewed an animal shaped pillow. We cut it out using a pattern then sewed it by machine and then learned how to appliqué felt pieces for the eyes and mouth using the button hole stitch by hand with embroidery floss. I made a green octopus. I wish I still had it cuz it was so cute! Thanks for bringing back that memory. My mom was a great seamstress and made most of our clothes herself. I had five sisters and one brother. We used to sit on her bed while she sewed. I’d play with her pincushion pulling the pins in and out and rearrange them while we talked. She didn’t teach us to sew because she said she couldn’t afford to have her machine broken down cuz she needed it. And she did! She did teach us hand embroidery and oh how we loved that. I learned to cross stitch at 22 while I was in the Air Force through a home based crafting party. I haven’t really looked back. I’ve been watching you since last summer but recently changed my name from ShirlsMI-FL to Freedom Stitcher. I love to stitch anything but my favorites usually have something patriotic in them! Enjoying your flosstube. Glad you’re back stitching. 1,3,4,5 & 6

I began to cross stitch over 45 years ago at about 12 or 13 years old. I was taught by my Memom, she lived on the same farm property and her house was absolute heaven for me and my cousin. She was into all kinds of good stuff when you're a kid and looking for things to do in the summer, she could crochet, did needlepoint, paper crafts, sewed her own dresses so there were all kinds of fun treasures to find and "play" with. And bless her she would let us try it all, even her sewing machine. She didn't drive so when I got my license we took many a trip to the fabric, cross stitch and craft shops in the area, so many wonderful memories. I stopped when I had small children and a full time job but recently started again and am back in love with it. Speaking of wonderful memories, your graduation photos are beautiful. 1 3 4

My aunt used to do embroidery and needlepoint, but she didn't like to cross stitch. She passed along a few kits to me and my sisters, and we just started doing them, pretty much teaching ourselves. I was about 8 years old. I always had a piece going until I went back to college as a working adult when I was in my forties. I then had a series of eye problems and didn't even think about trying to stitch again until I retired 2 years ago, and my sister Sue brought me a project and insisted I start again. God bless her, I am back in full swing as an avid cross-stitcher, and we are having a blast with it. 3, 6

As all have passed on I and my sister still cross stitch and love it! I also have a word for the year, finish. I am focused on finishing
projects that were left behind. To honor the one who started it is to bring closure and finish. Thank you for sharing in this stitching community. I would enjoy number 1 or 3. Thank You!!!

Your treasure box is beautiful Annie !
I learned to embroider when I was a young girl and loved needlework from then on . When I was 21 and expecting my first child I purchased a stamped Crosstitch quilt top and stitched that then quilted it as my first Crosstitch piece as well as my first quilt and then wrapped my new baby in it when he arrived. That ignited my love for both crafts and I have been cross stitching and quilting ever since and I’m 53 years old. That was my only stamped cross stitch that I have ever done, I immediately began to learn everything about counted cross stitch and pursue it but definitely look back and am grateful it was stamped because I took on quite an extra large first project!

My sister-in-law taught me to cross stitch when I was 18. I finished many projects through the years including birth records for my babies, and several samplers. I took a long break and picked it back up at the beginning of Covid. The craft has really expanded since I first began. I so appreciate flosstubers like you that helped get my creative juices flowing again 1,2,3,5,6.

Love your Queen of the Needle Box! I was 19 pregnant with my first born. I bought a stamped quilt because I wanted my baby to have something I made for him. I had no idea how to do it so I asked my grandmother. She taught me everything I know. I loved every minute of the stitch but boy after 30 years of stitching it looks so bad! However the good news is my son cherishes it so that is all that matters! 1,2,3,4,5,6

I can understand why you are so pleased with it. I learned to cross stitch in my mid 20s. My sister-in-law and her friend started and included me in this wonderful craft. That was in the mid 1970s. I put my stitching away about 20 years later when other things took over my life. I’m so happy to be back stitching. Annie, you’re back, so relax and just keep moving forward. I was 49 when I learned how to cross stitch and just turned 50. I'm loving it. Crazybandladystitches got me interested in cross stitch. A couple of years ago we both had kids in the same high school band and so when she started sharing her Flosstube videos I would watch them to keep myself entertained while I worked out at the gym. She always had good patterns to show off and had really cool things to say about other Flosstubers and stitchy friends. I'm a cross stitcher because of Flosstube and now I enjoy her Flosstube, your Flosstube and several others. Happy graduation to your daughter. We did the same thing this week with my middle child. Didn't get much stitchin' done on the weekend either but I've been at it these past few days. Cute finish with the box!

First congratulations to you and your lovely daughter! My stitching has been a crazy journey. I was a young mom and wanted birth samplers for my boys. So I stitched them, one was crewel work and the other stamped cross stitch. I was in my early twenties. Then I did a bunch of plastic canvas ornaments…… when my sons were in high school my husbands nephew was getting married, I found a beautiful sampler… I really had no idea what I was doing, the woman in the store explained how to stitch on linen. I did have some threads show through on the back but I loved it.
Almost twenty years later I was collecting cross stitch magazines dreaming of stitching. I saw an article about Priscilla and Chelsea and floss tube and they gave me the “courage “ to try! So I really feel I started about 4/5 years ago, so age 51.
Thank you for your lovely video, your finishing with the box is a true treasure!

Thanks for another great video. I taught myself to cross stitch at 20 years old. A friend gave us a simple wedding sampler as a wedding gift and I thought to myself ‘I can do that!’ I went out and found a kit and it’s been love ever since, 40 years and going. Covid introduced me to Flosstube and opened a whole new world. I’ve done more stitching these past two plus years than all the years before combined. My grandmother taught me to do crewel embroidery when I was very young but I much prefer the X’s. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Congratulations to your daughter on her graduation.

I was 28 years old, the mother of a very busy ( and very cute ) toddler. There was a pattern for a cross stitched Christmas stocking in a magazine that had very clear directions. I guess I was self taught. That toddler is now 40 years old ( and still very cute ). It was then that needlework became an important part of my life. 1,3, 4 I was pregnant with my first child at age 30 (which was considered old at the time) and taught myself to cross stitch. I stitched a very tiny 2" x 3" birth sampler on 14 count aida. Then, I taught my mother to cross stitch and when she developed dementia, I am totally convinced that the stitching acted as therapy and helped her to keep her ability to think just a little bit longer. Your daughter is beautiful and I wish her congratulations on her graduation and best wishes for joy and success in college.

I finished this project and it is still in my possession. During the last decades I occasional did cross stitch projects (mostly something like tableclothes or towles). I came back to cross stitch across Patchwork, when Kimberly Jolly spoke about her flosstube. The cute projects by Priscilla & Chelsea I loved so much, so I finaly came back to cross stitching about 1,5 years ago. Your treasure box is adorable and well sophisticated. I had sewn and quilted all through high school, but didn’t start cross stitch till I was in my late 20s. We were living in Ames, Iowa then and a friend invited me to a beginning cross stitch class at the Yarn Tree shop. We stitched a small candy cane ornament. I still hang it on our Christmas tree every year. I remember Beth, the owner, advising us to start with something small. I chose a sampler and in two weeks returned to the shop with a finished piece which she framed. Love your treasure box! Congratulations to your daughter! Giveaways #1,2,3,4,5,6. Thank you!

My mother taught me cross stitch when I was probably 13. I cross stitched a lot of samplers when my kids were young. Life got in the way and I picked it up again many years later when I retired. Now addicted! I would like 1,3,4,5,6

Beautiful pics of Gray's graduation celebration. While my grandma and aunties are stitchers of all sorts, I was a self-taught x-stitcher and stitched my first work of art in my early twenties. Ignorantly, after years of storing it I decided to throw it away during one of our home clean outs for a major move. While I wouldn't display it today as I had originally finished it (framed with the late 80's blue mat board), I know now that I would've reworked it into a pillow finish for my studio to commemorate my first x-stitch piece. The wisdom we gain as time marches on ☺.

I was 18 or 19 when I stitched my 1st stamped cross stitch project. There was a Record Shop in my hometown where I loved to go look at the vinyl albums (hundreds of them). The shop's owner had confiscated a back corner of the shop for cross stitch charts, kits, threads & linens. I had always loved sewing, making my own clothes since I was 12 or 13 (my mother as teacher) so the needle art of cross stitching really grabbed my attention and I was hooked!! That was early in the 1970s and I am still stitching! Really enjoyed seeing your family photos, what a great time you must have had. Congratulations to Gray and good luck wishes to Tristen for Final Exams! 3, 4, 5, 6

My mom taught me to sew, knit, crochet, embroider and so when the cross stitch craze took off in the late 70s, it was natural for us to take this up, too. So together, we embraced the new challenge. My aunt caught the bug, too and the 3 of us went to retreats together. I was a young adult at the time, going to college, working and on my days off, my mom and I would shop at all the cross stitch shops around town. Must have been half a dozen or more. My most prized keepsake from my mom is her old oval tin basket in which she kept her floss from her own early days. I am thrilled that it has had a resurgence. I only wish my mom were here to enjoy it. 3 5 6

I was about 5 and my Grandmother gave me a pillow case she had drawn some flowers and a bunny on, I also learned to hand quilt from her when I was super young maybe 7. I didn’t stitch all my life I quit for many years and came back when COVID hit mainly because working in health care made me very nervous so stitching calmed me! Love all you do Annie as always💖 your finish on queen of the needle is precious and I love it! Blessings💖

But I taught myself counted cross stitch when I was 31 and fell in love with it and 34 years later still stitching! Congratulations to Gray! Loved seeing the pictures of graduation!

Hi Annie, enjoyed your floss tube today..I am one of those people who finished their stitched piece and put it in the drawer..so you instructions on finishing your box is much appreciated. Because of your floss tube, my daughter and I recently went to visit Cross Stitch and Crafts in Johnson City. She lives in Maryville TN and I live near Charlotte in NC..we also went to Tennessee Quilts! It was a fun trip! I started sticking in the 1980's..I am self taught..I am also a quilter, knitted and I do a little crochet. I started to cross stitch again about 8 yrs ago. I loved all your give aways..would like 1 2 3 4 5 6...happy stitching...Mt daughter also works part time at Mountain Creeks Quilts in Maryville..if you have not been there, it is a wonderful shop!

I was in my 30’s in the 80’s when counted cross stitch became popular. I stitched for a few years then put it down while raising my family and working. I picked it back up during the pandemic in 2020 and found Floss tube as a wonderful encouragement. 1,2,3,4,5,6 I love your finished box. So creative. And thanks so much for sharing your pictures. Congratulations to Gray on her graduation! Best of luck to her next year! My son is a high school freshman and he has his finals this week as well. It’s been a little stressful but so far he is doing great. I started cross stitching when I was maybe 10 or 12. The first thing I stitched by myself was a pillowcase doll kit from Walmart that had stamped cross stitch on her dress. I have been hooked ever since! Have a great week, Annie. Good luck to your son as he makes his way through finals this week. Happy Stitching! 1, 3, 6

I’ve always been a knitter. My mother taught me when I was in elementary school. I taught myself needlepoint and crewel embroidery and general crafting in my early 20’s when I was a stay at home Mom. Continued knitting up a storm until 2019 when my daughter said I should try cross stitch as she needed help working on some projects - in my early 70’s!!! That’s all I do now as I find it so much fun! I love the evolving of the pieces - just seeing them take on a life of their own. It’s definitely the most fulfilling hobby I have ever had. Thanks for your wonderful floss tubes and sharing your family with us. 1 2 5 6

My gram also taught be to cross stitch. She taught me to embroider first when I about about 10 and then a few years later we were cross stitching. I lost the “interest” for it through high school and then getting married! But after I had the twins I slowly found my love for it again! I taught the twins a few years ago. Ainsley has shown as interest first and then Addy about a year later! So it’s nice sharing this hobby and craft with them!!! 1

Love your videos. I started cross stitching wayyyy back. I was probably in my teens when I first started, but got into more in my twenties. You know those "vintage" books? Well I stitched a ton of those back in the day. My mom taught me all things crafts and I learned sewing in high school. During my teaching career of 20 years and raising 3 children, I had absolutely no time for stitching. After retirement, I came back and loved. it more than ever! Overdyed threads and floss tube are new to me and I love them.

I taught myself to cross stitch when my oldest son was a baby....so about 40 years ago. My first attempt was also a little kit from Walmart..it was a teddy bear...had everything in it, even a little frame. I loved the Leisure Arts magazine that was available about 12 to 15 years ago. All of those patterns required a lot of back stitching to make them come alive. So much simpler these days! Your daughter looked so beautiful on her graduation day! Congratulations. 1 3 4 5

Congratulations! You have a graduate🤗. Life milestones for our children take up a great deal of emotion. Summer will fly by getting her ready and moved up here to Michigan. We live in Holland and by the way I have known Judy Whitman from her early design beginnings. I owned a cross stitch shop in Petoskey in the 80’s & 90’s! My first cross stirching was a stamped piece, a big teddy bear front and back. I was 10. My mother and my two grandmas all sewed, quilted, knit, crochet…. I remember going to the dime store and picking out the floss, a new embroidery hoop and the design. Truth be told, I never fully finished it🤗🤗🤗🤗. I moved on to sewing clothes and then counted cross stitch. The project bag ( #5 ) is really cute. I have fabric galore and should make my own, but that cuts into stitching time 🤗. It is good to see you again, I enjoy your company while I stitch. Now treat yourself to a spa day and enjoy your new home🌷Be well!

I think I was about 7 or 8 when I first started cross stitching. We were on a break from school and for what ever reason we couldn't play outside. Mom bought me a tiny beginner kit from one of the craft stores to keep me busy. I took to it right away and couldn't do enough of those little kits. I stitched off and on through my teens and twenties, then got more serious about it in my thirties after I was more settled in life. I learned in high school home ec. I did two small pieces and my mom found two charts for each of my grandparents and asked if I could do them. One was of a Coca Cola Santa and the other was of Norman Rockwell’s The Dr and the Doll. My Grandfather loved that picture and was so proud of it. It actually wins blue ribbon at a show that he was at one year. I now have it along with Santa. I am just getting g back to stitching after about 15 years and am thoroughly enjoying all the floss tube channels. And all the patterns - omg I do not think I would ever make a dent in stitching all of the ones I would like to get. I have to start on my craft room and getting it set up next.
