Most people don't realize that size is an indefinable, arbitrary measurement that isn't mathematical and can be made up while volume is the true way to describe the mathematical space in which an object can have matter fill up the inside of it. If the world wasn't filled with idiots, the original argument wouldn't have even occurred, but sadly we live in a world were people cannot distinguish the meaning of volume from size, so using size works best for them to better understand, even if they technically end up understanding it incorrectly.

    i don't think anyone is denying the fact that you eat with a tablespoon and you stir with a teaspoon, but Sarah is totally correct. You can absolutely buy many different sizes and types of spoons in America that WILL NOT fill a measuring cup for a teaspoon. That's why people don't bake with normal spoons because they're not properly sized in all kitchens. You have to specifically buy a teaspoon measure.

    • @evl952
      @evl952 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    • @ajreukgjdi94
      @ajreukgjdi94 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@flybudkenchie They're not though. If you buy fancy ones, maybe. but if you go to Walmart and get the cheapest set of spoons, they're just made in some crappy stamp die. They don't care what volume they are because nobody in their right mind would use them to measure. a tablespoon and a teaspoon are volumetric measurements... But so is a cup, I've got lots of cups in my cupboard, but nobody is claiming those are exactly 8 fluid ounces. I've got lots of table spoons in my silverware drawer, and they may or may not be 3 teaspoons. One word can have two different meanings. That's actually why I specifically put a space between 'table' and 'spoon' when I'm referring to the utensil, and no space when I'm referring to the volumetric measurement.

I never think of the silverware I put on the table as considered a ‘table spoon’ anymore because that wouldn’t work with cooking/baking (I mean it would because being a little off isn’t gonna hurt much but it’s a bit of a difference measurement wise).
    Also I never drink tea or have different silverware other than the bog standard that’s usually used, so the whole argument was even weirder.

(I just did test it to make sure I was remembering it right, and I am.
