- The Cowboys did not put in a good defensive effort, as the Ravens put up 456 yards on offense, with 274 of them coming on the ground. Dallas' main concern this year has been the inability to stop the run. There is perhaps no worse matchup than the Ravens with Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry in that regard.
Derrick Henry, who many wanted the Cowboys to sign this offseason, had his best game of the season by rushing for 151 yards and two touchdowns, averaging six yards per carry. Lamar Jackson put up 87 yards rushing as well.
Lawrence, Micah Parsons and the rest of the Cowboys defense under new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer will have to find some answers to the run game.

I've been saying this for the last 2 years. Micah needs to play LB and only play DE on obvious passing downs. But he doesn't want to learn the position/study at the NFL level!

It blows my mind that the DEs kept crashing down against a team with Lamar Jackson on it. Especially when they have struggled to contain teams that run outside for multiple years.

@@TILIS214 Stick Micah at W side linebacker and find a true DE in the draft or FA, they can complement each other. Micah Can chase down most RB off the back end like LT did in New York while the DE holds the edge for cutbacks. defense 101.
The worst move ever in the long run was moving him to FT DE. If they want him to be more of a pass rusher then they should have switched to a 3-4. 80% of his snaps in a 4-3 need to happen at LB.

That’s all he does. He uses strength and speed. No technique. No moves. No hand fighting. No rips. No chops. No spins. It’s either run around you, or use his speed for momentum to bull rush .
Basically, just put him at end when it's 3rd and long other than that get his ass at linebacker. He just want defensive end money and teams have figured out how to slow him down. Run right to him cause he can't get off blocks in run game,

I’ve been a lifelong Cowboys fan for 47 years and the one thing that has kept my sanity is just laughing and not taking them seriously for the last almost 30 years. After that playoff loss to the Packers I’ve gone back to my old ways of not caring about the team anymore. It got me through the years after Aikman retired until Romo came along. Now I’m kind of enjoying the level of embarrassment because it all lays at the feet of Jerry.
You are spot on in your analysis. The Cowboys don’t value on players with high IQs. They’re notorious for drafting dumb players. This is not Zimmer’s fault. Far from it. The players have to follow Zimmer plan. They need to put all their trust in him because they’re learning a new system. That isn’t happening. The problem is the coaches are neutered by Jerry. His press conference after the game was hard to listen to. It was just embarrassing. This team is not going anywhere for the next several years.

They try to add support to the middle and then weaken the edge. Any OC is going to see through this quickly. Until we fix the middle, we lose. This is checkers, not chess.
From what I saw re-watching the game, the offensive line was terrible controlling the line of scrimmage for us, and the defensive line was abysmal on the line of scrimmage. not gonna win games when you can’t control either side of the ball on the line . On the defensive side, they’re washing their self out of place.

Yall are missing the boat on Micah and D-Law. The interior D line was getting beat down so much (Mazzi especially) they HAD to crash inside to protect against the run. They were moving our line as much as 5 yards backwards per play. The guys BEHIND them are supposed to notice that, and then adjust to contain the run… That didn’t happen. Micah and D-Law were literally playing two positions on every snap… by the end of the game, they were so tired, WR’s were able to block them.

Everyone blamed DQ everytime the Cowboys D got blasted last year, and then blasted him for playing a simple D. Well, as we see these players are not willing to play disciplined defense. Quinn was a genious to figure that out and dumb everything down, and just let them rush the passer. They arent willing to play disciplined defense because they all want the highlight play, to get commercials to get paid and Jerry is all for it. It comes from the top down. Each guy is his own business, and Jerry supports it 100%. There is no place in Micah and Tanks business to make another player look good. They have to look good.

I love the arguing. Remember when Mario Chalmers said they argued alot through that season in Miami? They all held eachother accountable. They won a chip. It's good that Dallas was in them feels. Shows they care about it. I know they are not winning a chip. But If the coaches are not going to get onto them, then maybe this way is good. Some players on the team need to grow up anyways. They all need a reality check. They all need to own it. Maybe they can turn it around in the Giants game.

There have been several times this year when I forget Lewis doesn’t wear 27 anymore and I’ve said “who the fuck is #2..!?” Dude might be our best defender.
Well Zimmer can only fortify the defense with decent DTs but it should be better with proper lbs.

This is the mood of Cowboys nation right now. I think I'm a rational fan, but losing this way is infuriating. We better get it together and fast, we already three games in. Even if we do beat up on bad teams to better our record... it's now undeniable. We haven't consisyently played well against contenders. I'm not expecting to win every one, but damn we been getting blown out too many times.

Get Parsons off the defensive line and defense will improve 100%. He needs to be traded or play MLB so he can run. Parson and Lamb's IQ is low.
I dont believe any player playing on the defensive line should ever be blocked by a man darn near half his weight. I think its time for position change or retirement.

Our defense is just flat out low IQ and soft. The higher the circumstances and the more urgency/pressure the more undisciplined they become.
It’s very sad, because if guys like Parsons, Tank, Osa, Diggs, Hooker, Kendricks, Wilson, etc were doing their jobs I don’t think the young guys like Mazi, Overshown, Clark, Kneeland, Marist would look bad.
I see in this film guys like Mazi, Overshown, Kneeland, Marist being in the right spots but the play never comes to them because some veteran is playing hero ball on the edges.

I notice once you hit this defense in the mouth early they IQ go out the window and they get all discombobulated.
Pointed all this stuff out last season, but they played against the worst teams in the league, these mistakes were covered up. Now they are getting exposed. They all rely on speed.
One of My favorite Quarter Back's, noticed that My mind was not in the game,I was #1 RB, and that game I chose to go out of bounds when I had clear lanes to get more Yards, drops on wheel routes and easy screen passing,yet I had the nerve to get frustrated at the Team ,so He flipped on me and said WTF is Your problem, I said I am a RB not a Damn Receiver,, and He Yelled at me and said "Do Something then MF, just Do Something", so I got out of Myself and started Catching Screens and stretching plays to get every inch ,then the Team got pumped as well and We destroyed the other team in the second half,If Your Key Players show a lack of urgency,it bleeds onto the Team and the Team's Level of play

putting parsons on the line plays into exactly where an offense wants him. Takes your fastest assets and put him on a 300+ dude getting beat up all game. You don't want hands on your fast guys.

In reality, its trying the get sacks which is causing the defense to not do its job. If the Cowboys just focus on containment, they would be much better on defense.
