We sat and watched about 6 pelicans air surfing the waves at Dana Point like this. The precision and grace ... and you know they're just doing it for fun!
It always amazes me how close they can get to the water surface and catch that updraft without issues. They are just so skilled and specialized its amazing, their depth perception must be beyond our full comprehension. I often catch myself watching them glide and wondering what they must be thinking in these moments, the precision is truly something to behold. What glorious creatures, I feel honored to be able to see them.

Beautifully done! I could watch brown pelicans fly all day, wishing I could join in the whole time. Number one reason to take binocs to the beach.
Thank you! They really are so beautiful and graceful in the air!

Air, sea, land, underwater, we dont have a vehicle that can do that.
This looks great. What's your support setup? Is it a monopod with gimbal head?
Thank you! For most of the shots I used a monopod with gimbal head, and a few of the shots were handheld. Still working on getting smoother footage. 😅
