@@outdoorsinthe608 I agree Jeremiah, I know it gets a bad rap from the tough splitting, but this stuff (albeit on the smaller side) split easier than some hickory I’ve had lately. Besides, who doesn’t love a good challenge every once in a while. Thanks for watching!
I just picked up a truckload today and buying the Fiskars tomorrow. What state do you live in btw? I'm in Abq NM. The elm here look a lot like our big cottonwood trees but the leafs are different. I was a little concerned when I first picked it up because I know cottonwood gets a bad rap. I think the main issues with smell for both is the bark, more than the wood.
@@oldowl4290 I am from NC and yeah elm can get pretty big and sometimes have bark that can resemble cotton wood. There are so manny types of elm though it can be tough to ID. Usually you know pretty quick after the first few swings of a maul if you’ve got elm! If I’m hand splitting it’s definitely with the fiskars x27 splitting axe! Best splitting axe for the money on the market! Thanks for watching ✊
@@oldowl4290 that’s awesome I lived in the Raleigh are for about a decade we actually bought a house in holly springs before coming back home (piedmont area)
@@FoothillsFirewood My dad still lives in Raleigh and my granddad owned Nags Head pier for 40 years. I'm in NM now after being on the west coast for 25 years.
Siberian elm is good wood and burns great! I am currently mixing it in my bags👍👍
