As a teen, I thought about and tried suicide almost daily. It was horrible. I was a cheerleader, great student, even had a part time job. But what else was going on, was a silent destroyer. A boy had molested me, I told no one. I had a bully who was a girl, who was tormenting me. I had a boss who touched me inappropriately and I could tell no one. I had no one. My principal, Mr. Middaugh, saved my life. By simply being kind.

Diane Sawyer is so rude to Sue Klebold in this interview. You can see the look of disbelief and disgust on her face as she responds to Sue. Also the tone of her voice is so condescending. Come on Diane, have some compassion! This poor lady has dealt with so much hate and been through so much pain for something she didn't even do. And the sad thing is she is so used to people treating her like this that she doesn't even blink an eye at Diane's rudeness. I feel so much respect for Sue Klebold and I think she is so brave for speaking out and for writing her book. She does not try to make excuses for what Dylan did, she tries to tell her story to help other parents help their kids so they don't do the same thing. And she is not keeping any of the proceeds of the book for herself. She is so strong and admirable and she does not deserve the hatred she's received for all these years. If you believe in the goodness of a person you’re more likely to explain away red flags, which she did. If you read her book she explicitly states her mistakes and acknowledges that in that way she had a role in this tragedy.

The reporter asked a very legitimate question. She may have sounded condescending but she gave the interviewee a room to defend herself as a mother and as a human being.

@@anonymous-iy5pd I agree that she mades some mistakes, however, once her son's behavior started to become erratic and his started getting into trouble, she should have looked into getting him some counseling, as should any parent. My mom used to say that kids don't come with a manual, and anyone with children can tell you that the same things don't necessarily work for all of your children. However, I do think that more parents should seek outside help when they start noticing changes in the children. Don't assume it's just teenage angst or hormones. Maybe their child isn't going to shot up their school, but they could be battling depression and suicidal thoughts, and we as parents aren't always equipped with the knowledge or know how to help our kids.

Sue was told multiple times by the Brooks that her son was a danger and she ignored all their warnings. Eric got caught with a pipe bomb at his house and nobody did anything. I’m a parent. It’s ridiculous to say she both had no idea and was somehow still a very involved parent.

Everyone saying she should've known. Before Columbine and around this time nobody knew that "normal" kids could commit crimes like this. They didn't even know that "normal" kids have depression and other mental illnesses. Back then they thought this only happened to kids threatening others with knives and killing small animals, and kids who wear all black and wear metal chokers. No parents expect their kid to do this, you never want to believe your kid could do this so you ignore any and all signs.
True. One of my friends just lost a neighbor a couple of weeks ago. And he was like The Perfect Son every single parent wanted. Good grades, active community service, great friends, etc. They lived in a upper-class area. He died of drug overdose. And the whole community is still a little shocked.
I was a freshman in high school when this happened. I use to think that parents shaped their children... but now I'm almost 40 with 3 of my own kids. They're all completely different. Born with their own personalities. I'm not sure we have the ability to truly control our children like we're expected to. Sue is NOT at fault. She shouldn't be blamed for something her son did. Columbine was crazy. These kids lived almost 100% in their own heads. With their own delusions. They thought killing would be fun... but if you study what actually occurred, it's fairly easy to see that Dylan and Eric quickly found that it wasn't what they expected. They aimlessly walked around throwing pipe bombs and molotov cocktails at nothing/no one. They were very selective (yet random) as to who they killed... passing over many people. Letting some go, and some just stay wounded instead of finishing them off. The whole thing was over in less than an hour. Eric broke his nose when his sawed off shotgun kicked... and that was all it took for him to give up. They killed themselves, when there was still enough time and people to continue the spree for another hour or two. Or have a shootout with police. I wish that aspect was highlighted more. Perhaps the kids that look up to school killers and want to do the same, would realize that it's never what they think it'll be. The lives of countless people are destroyed within minutes... and gun death/killing is never like what's in movies. There's no slow motion camera angles. No dramatic music. Or long drawn out dramatic dying. Just a bunch of stinky ass smoke, recoil, and loud ass bangs. They can get more satisfaction from target practicing at a shooting at a range and pretending.

But I was referring to what happened after having 2 additional children. Our first born acts a lot like his mom and I. The next two are completely different. Despite being raised in the exact same environment, it's VERY clear that they're their own people. I suppose you could argue that Eric had some life changes that may have influenced his behavior. Being bullied, moving around a lot, and having a father in the military. However, it's clear Eric was a psychopath. Dylan however.... seemed to have a good life. Loving parents who made decent money, stable home, friends, hobbies, etc. He even went to prom like what... a night or two before? With a girl who liked him? AND he was looking at schools. So the idea that his environment made him a murderous monster is laughable. If anything, it was severe depression., suicidal tendencies, and Eric's influence (peer pressure). Does Dylans' parents have some slight culpability? Perhaps. But it depends on how you view parenting. Should parents go through a 17 year old room for no reason? Read their journal? Ask their children "are you feeling homicidal today"? Maybe... but I bet Sue and her husband think about that every day. It's clear Sue has suffered greatly from this. Not only was her son killed by the same murderer (himself) but she's expected not to grieve. Like she doesn't have a right to. But in reality, she's just as much of a victim as the other parents who lost their kids that day.

She tried to claim dylan’s best friend was a kid who he and eric threatened and harassed. She knew about the pipe bombs, she knew about the guns, she knew about eric, she knew about dylan’s anger issues, she knew about the fucking hit list, and what did she do? NOTHING. She said the maddest she ever got at him was when he forgot fucking mother’s day, after he had been caught breaking the law several times, been caught being a racist, threatening, disgusting person, and she never corrected him on any of it. And in that story she mentions pushing her son into a fridge and pinning him against a wall. She’s a fucking disgusting, garbage person and the fact that she’s PROFITING off her son, her failure, committing one of the most infamous crimes in american history, and you’re sitting here DEFENDING her is disgusting. I can’t wait for the day she meets her son in hell.

I have 5 daughters. They all have the same father. They're very close in age. They're all adults. They are each individual people who make choices according to who they are. My oldest daughter, straight laced, black and white, no grey area. Right or wrong. She provides care to the elderly. Intelligent child out spoken, never met a stranger. Would be scared to death in a jail cell but wouldn't let it show. My second daughter, quiet, no a book learner. Fairly shy. Nail tech/artist. Hates confrontation and become anxious at the thought. Would be terrified in a jail cell and would cry every day. My 3rd daughter is funny and sweet and good hearted. She will not stand for anyone bullying anyone or even being condescending or looking down on anyone. She Had zero interest in school and was more interested in being around others and socializing than learning. She has a heart of gold and empathy like no one else I know. I don't know what she will do as a career when she gets released from the federal penitentiary. She's almost done with a 5 year sentence. She takes it in stride and long ago accepted that she deserves to be punished for what she did. She makes the most of it and would never let anyone see her cry about it. She sold meth to other people's sons and daughters. Not to excuse her, her motivation was to fit in and be liked by the wrong people. My forth daughter did well enough in school, only because she didnt want be seen as a loser, not because she valued education. She's an aesthetician, so she also works with people. Common thread here. Shes somewhat quiet but once she gets to know someone, shes not quiet. She considers herself to be quite normal and well adjusted. She will likely marry money because she knows it makes the world go round and love would be nice but she can live without it for enough cash. She is maybe not as empathetic as some of the others but she loves her family and is very giving to those around her. Though she'd marry for money, she's a kind and generous person. My 5th daughter was a pretty good student. She is a champion of the underdog. She doesnt tolerate cruelty or mistreatment of anyone but especially not anyone less fortunate or vulnerable. Shes a talker, out going but laid back. Very giving and kind hearted but doesnt care at all to stand up for what's right. She's still young at 20 so she's still coming into her own. If she ever went to jail it would be for shutting down a bully/mean person who was doing harm to someone else. If she went to jail she'd probably be there for a while. She cant stand to be controlled and would probably fight the cops while crying for me because she'd be worried about me worrying about here. All raised the same, by the same people, basically at the same time because they were all born within a 6 year span. They got their genetics from the same people. They're all as different as can be but do have some basic things in common. I assure you, they are who they are and are where they are because of the choices they made. It's not my fault that one will eventually be very well to do, nor that one is a felon. It's not my fault that one thinks animals indoors is gross and another has more dogs than I can keep track of and one of which lives in the house and has the same rights as the humans in the home. It's not my fault some are neat freaks and one is a slob. They are all individuals of an age of knowledge and free will. Individual souls that make their own choices. They dont get to blame me for anything and I dont get to blame my parents for anything. When you're old enough to know right from wrong it's on you. I am the exact age of what her son would be today & recall how the media heavyweights, including this one, painted her an evil monster in the aftermath of Columbine. I can only imagine the hell it is to make the choice of going public with all this weight on your shoulders for all these years to come forward & talk about not only your sons death, but the ones he helped cause. (I read her book.) *Eric Harris was the mastermind & leader of the pack, wrote out the plan on Dylan's year book in '98. Neither of whose parents have ever come forward to tell their stories and probably never will. Harris came from a military family & he wanted to be a Marine, it says so in his writings, but with his past juvenile record of having got caught in a string of car burglaries, that wasn't an option for him. Aside extreme bullying, esp. against Eric, I believe he opted to take his rage out on those who hurt him all throughout high school with the intended target, the jocks. [There is in fact a link between habitual bullying and school-shootings. Kids can be real mean and 'zero-in' like a wolfpack on whom they deem, the 'odd-duck' & Harris was it, then came Dylan for being his friend.] Schools now have 'anti-bullying' programs in-place foe this very reason non-existent in the 90s or decades prior. We had many school shootings prior to this of students going on the kill, even in '92 on starting with Wayne Lo at Simon's Rock & Lindhurst High that same year on... You just don't hear about them as Columbine is what people think of when this topic arises. Ever hear of Brenda Spencer or Laurie Dann?... Look em up! Rare, female school shooters of 1979 & '88.
Never heard of the school shooters you mentioned from '79, but I'll look them up. There was also the one from '98, but the key difference with Thurston was that he actually regrets what he did, and accepts his punishment. I watched a really good documentary on him last year. Yes mental health is very important because if you took him to see a professional, you would’ve known that he’s a sociopath. A mother’s guilt is devastating. I have 2 grown boys who turned out pretty damn good and I still have a lot of guilt as a mother. I can’t even imagine what this lady has gone thru.
I too have two grown sons. I’m incredibly lucky that they are both good men. I can’t imagine what Sue Klebold has been through. Imagine having the weight of this on your shoulders. Yes, I often look back and think what I would do better as a mother, even though my boys are amazing.
When we hear about these tragic school shootings, we often imagine the parents of these killers as being neglectful, irresponsible buffoons that never should have procreated. It's easy to do when these people remain faceless and dehumanized to the public. We can take comfort in this separation between us versus them, and we use this to reinforce our belief that our loved ones are incapable of such behavior. It's interviews like these, though, that are really unnerving. Sue Klebold, based on this interview and her O Magazine article, simply seems like an intelligent, responsible parent that only wanted the best for her son. I firmly believe that many parents could relate to how she felt and still feels for her son, and consequently, I think her coming forward is really important because it compels us to imagine the unimaginable.
There is no way she and her husband didn't see the cuts on his arms, smell the cigarettes or smell the alcohol along with the weight loss and how dishevelled he looked. She is lying.

You can never prepare yourself for something like this to happen. She did her best as a mom nut the culture wasn't focusing on the mental health of the youth yet. I feel so bad for her. It was and still is so easy for a kid in USA to get a gun, but it was so difficult for any parent around the world in the 1990s to be aware of mental problems, depression or suicidal thoughts among teenagers. I remember when a 15 y.o. girl at my school comitted suicide in very brutal way. She was my sister's friend. No one took us to psychologist after that, no teacher at school said anything AT ALL. And my parents were the educated ones, but still they needed some time to realize that was the right moment to seek help. It was year 2000 and while the knowledge about teenage depression is a lot better now, it seems that more and more kids get suicidal...

Except that two months before the shootings, the school notified Dylan's parents that he had written a very disturbing essay about wanting to kill people at school. Another parent brought it to their attention that Eric Harris had a website with a "kill list" on it and she knew how tight Dylan and Eric were. Dylan hacked a school computer and using info they found there, placed a threatening note in the locker of a boy he and Eric considered to be an enemy (they were suspended for that). Sorry but this did not just come out of nowhere. Dylan and Eric's parents could have foiled the whole plot simply by being aware the weapons being brought into their house. I'm not saying it's all their fault, but they are not blameless.
This women and the father of Dylan do not deserve any hate at all. They not only found out their son’s death on that horrendous day, they found out how he was involved in one of the worst massacres in American history. You can be the most hyper vigilant person, yet miss certain things. She doesn’t deserve to sit there, have panic attacks and be consistently villainised. She has gone through so much, I don’t know how anyone can deal with such news and continue living and raise awareness on mental health etc. Her son was a killer, but he died that day too and for a mother, that is such horrible news, even if he was a mass murderer. Her child was in therapy and on medication. That's more than my parents ever did for me. Clear signs of Depression at age 12. They were too much in denial, too scared to bring it up or call the doctor. At least Sue TRIED. It's more than my parents did, I just happened to never have killed anyone.

As a teen, I thought about and tried suicide almost daily. It was horrible. I was a cheerleader, great student, even had a part time job. But what else was going on, was a silent destroyer. A boy had molested me, I told no one. I had a bully who was a girl, who was tormenting me. I had a boss who touched me inappropriately and I could tell no one. I had no one. My principal, Mr. Middaugh, saved my life. By simply being kind.

Dylan was just riding along to get along he had very low self esteem and horrible depression and his only friend was Eric, who accepted him for who he was and didn’t judge him and sometimes that’s a recipe for disaster knowing what Eric was like, it’s not to excuse his behavior on that horrible day but he had a loving childhood and all I see is a mother wondering what went wrong just like dahmers father who loved him very much.

Diane Sawyer is so rude to Sue Klebold in this interview. You can see the look of disbelief and disgust on her face as she responds to Sue. Also the tone of her voice is so condescending. Come on Diane, have some compassion! This poor lady has dealt with so much hate and been through so much pain for something she didn't even do. And the sad thing is she is so used to people treating her like this that she doesn't even blink an eye at Diane's rudeness. I feel so much respect for Sue Klebold and I think she is so brave for speaking out and for writing her book. The reporter asked a very legitimate question. She may have sounded condescending but she gave the interviewee a room to defend herself as a mother and as a human being.
She has to ask the difficult questions. Sue Klebold doestn' deserve the hate she got from people. She was probably hard enough on herself as it was. But to say that asking direct questions is mean, is to not think about the big picture. I for one wanted to know what she thought about this kind of thing. And i fully sympathize with her tough position. I highly doubt she ever thought anything like this could happen.

My mom used to say that kids don't come with a manual, and anyone with children can tell you that the same things don't necessarily work for all of your children. However, I do think that more parents should seek outside help when they start noticing changes in the children. Don't assume it's just teenage angst or hormones. Maybe their child isn't going to shot up their school, but they could be battling depression and suicidal thoughts, and we as parents aren't always equipped with the knowledge or know how to help our kids.

Sue was told multiple times by the Brooks that her son was a danger and she ignored all their warnings. Eric got caught with a pipe bomb at his house and nobody did anything. I’m a parent. It’s ridiculous to say she both had no idea and was somehow still a very involved parent.

I was a freshman in high school when this happened. I use to think that parents shaped their children... but now I'm almost 40 with 3 of my own kids. They're all completely different. Born with their own personalities. I'm not sure we have the ability to truly control our children like we're expected to. Sue is NOT at fault. She shouldn't be blamed for something her son did.
Columbine was crazy. These kids lived almost 100% in their own heads. With their own delusions. They thought killing would be fun... but if you study what actually occurred, it's fairly easy to see that Dylan and Eric quickly found that it wasn't what they expected. They aimlessly walked around throwing pipe bombs and molotov cocktails at nothing/no one. They were very selective (yet random) as to who they killed... passing over many people. Letting some go, and some just stay wounded instead of finishing them off. The whole thing was over in less than an hour. Eric broke his nose when his sawed off shotgun kicked... and that was all it took for him to give up. They killed themselves, when there was still enough time and people to continue the spree for another hour or two. Or have a shootout with police. I wish that aspect was highlighted more. Perhaps the kids that look up to school killers and want to do the same, would realize that it's never what they think it'll be. The lives of countless people are destroyed within minutes... and gun death/killing is never like what's in movies. There's no slow motion camera angles. No dramatic music. Or long drawn out dramatic dying. Just a bunch of stinky ass smoke, recoil, and loud ass bangs. They can get more satisfaction from target practicing at a shooting at a range and pretending.

I suppose you could argue that Eric had some life changes that may have influenced his behavior. Being bullied, moving around a lot, and having a father in the military. However, it's clear Eric was a psychopath. Dylan however.... seemed to have a good life. Loving parents who made decent money, stable home, friends, hobbies, etc. He even went to prom like what... a night or two before? With a girl who liked him? AND he was looking at schools. So the idea that his environment made him a murderous monster is laughable. If anything, it was severe depression., suicidal tendencies, and Eric's influence (peer pressure).
Does Dylans' parents have some slight culpability? Perhaps. But it depends on how you view parenting. Should parents go through a 17 year old room for no reason? Read their journal? Ask their children "are you feeling homicidal today"? Maybe... but I bet Sue and her husband think about that every day. It's clear Sue has suffered greatly from this. Not only was her son killed by the same murderer (himself) but she's expected not to grieve. Like she doesn't have a right to. But in reality, she's just as much of a victim as the other parents who lost their kids that day.

She tries to downplay what her son did and pin the majority of it on eric when dylan was just as awful a person. She tries to deny that dylan was really even close with eric when that’s obviously not the case if you know anything about this. She tried to claim dylan’s best friend was a kid who he and eric threatened and harassed. She knew about the pipe bombs, she knew about the guns, she knew about eric, she knew about dylan’s anger issues, she knew about the fucking hit list, and what did she do? NOTHING. She said the maddest she ever got at him was when he forgot fucking mother’s day, after he had been caught breaking the law several times, been caught being a racist, threatening, disgusting person, and she never corrected him on any of it. And in that story she mentions pushing her son into a fridge and pinning him against a wall. She’s a fucking disgusting, garbage person and the fact that she’s PROFITING off her son, her failure, committing one of the most infamous crimes in american history, and you’re sitting here DEFENDING her is disgusting. I can’t wait for the day she meets her son in hell.

I have 5 daughters. They all have the same father. They're very close in age. They're all adults. They are each individual people who make choices according to who they are. My oldest daughter, straight laced, black and white, no grey area. Right or wrong. She provides care to the elderly. Intelligent child out spoken, never met a stranger. Would be scared to death in a jail cell but wouldn't let it show. My second daughter, quiet, no a book learner. Fairly shy. Nail tech/artist. Hates confrontation and become anxious at the thought. Would be terrified in a jail cell and would cry every day. My 3rd daughter is funny and sweet and good hearted. She will not stand for anyone bullying anyone or even being condescending or looking down on anyone. She Had zero interest in school and was more interested in being around others and socializing than learning. She has a heart of gold and empathy like no one else I know. I don't know what she will do as a career when she gets released from the federal penitentiary. She's almost done with a 5 year sentence. She takes it in stride and long ago accepted that she deserves to be punished for what she did. She makes the most of it and would never let anyone see her cry about it. She sold meth to other people's sons and daughters. Not to excuse her, her motivation was to fit in and be liked by the wrong people. My forth daughter did well enough in school, only because she didnt want be seen as a loser, not because she valued education. She's an aesthetician, so she also works with people. Common thread here. Shes somewhat quiet but once she gets to know someone, shes not quiet. She considers herself to be quite normal and well adjusted. She will likely marry money because she knows it makes the world go round and love would be nice but she can live without it for enough cash. She is maybe not as empathetic as some of the others but she loves her family and is very giving to those around her. Though she'd marry for money, she's a kind and generous person. My 5th daughter was a pretty good student. She is a champion of the underdog. She doesnt tolerate cruelty or mistreatment of anyone but especially not anyone less fortunate or vulnerable. Shes a talker, out going but laid back. Very giving and kind hearted but doesnt care at all to stand up for what's right. She's still young at 20 so she's still coming into her own. If she ever went to jail it would be for shutting down a bully/mean person who was doing harm to someone else. If she went to jail she'd probably be there for a while. She cant stand to be controlled and would probably fight the cops while crying for me because she'd be worried about me worrying about here.
All raised the same, by the same people, basically at the same time because they were all born within a 6 year span. They got their genetics from the same people. They're all as different as can be but do have some basic things in common. I assure you, they are who they are and are where they are because of the choices they made. It's not my fault that one will eventually be very well to do, nor that one is a felon. It's not my fault that one thinks animals indoors is gross and another has more dogs than I can keep track of and one of which lives in the house and has the same rights as the humans in the home. It's not my fault some are neat freaks and one is a slob. They are all individuals of an age of knowledge and free will. Individual souls that make their own choices. They dont get to blame me for anything and I dont get to blame my parents for anything. When you're old enough to know right from wrong it's on you. This woman isn't to blame for what her nearly legal adult, certainly old enough to know better, son did.

I am the exact age of what her son would be today & recall how the media heavyweights, including this one, painted her an evil monster in the aftermath of Columbine. I can only imagine the hell it is to make the choice of going public with all this weight on your shoulders for all these years to come forward & talk about not only your sons death, but the ones he helped cause. (I read her book.) *Eric Harris was the mastermind & leader of the pack, wrote out the plan on Dylan's year book in '98. Neither of whose parents have ever come forward to tell their stories and probably never will.
Harris came from a military family & he wanted to be a Marine, it says so in his writings, but with his past juvenile record of having got caught in a string of car burglaries, that wasn't an option for him. Aside extreme bullying, esp. against Eric, I believe he opted to take his rage out on those who hurt him all throughout high school with the intended target, the jocks. [There is in fact a link between habitual bullying and school-shootings. Kids can be real mean and 'zero-in' like a wolfpack on whom they deem, the 'odd-duck' & Harris was it, then came Dylan for being his friend.] Schools now have 'anti-bullying' programs in-place foe this very reason non-existent in the 90s or decades prior. We had many school shootings prior to this of students going on the kill, even in '92 on starting with Wayne Lo at Simon's Rock & Lindhurst High that same year on... You just don't hear about them as Columbine is what people think of when this topic arises.

When we hear about these tragic school shootings, we often imagine the parents of these killers as being neglectful, irresponsible buffoons that never should have procreated. It's easy to do when these people remain faceless and dehumanized to the public. We can take comfort in this separation between us versus them, and we use this to reinforce our belief that our loved ones are incapable of such behavior. It's interviews like these, though, that are really unnerving. Sue Klebold, based on this interview and her O Magazine article, simply seems like an intelligent, responsible parent that only wanted the best for her son. I firmly believe that many parents could relate to how she felt and still feels for her son, and consequently, I think her coming forward is really important because it compels us to imagine the unimaginable.

You can never prepare yourself for something like this to happen. She did her best as a mom nut the culture wasn't focusing on the mental health of the youth yet. Anyone can get depression so don't get to thinking depressed people were dangerous, but the asocial depression turned into antisocial fury with the help of his horribly antisocial friend. I feel terrible for all the families and kids involved and who tragically died.

The fact is, this woman is a classic narcissist whose mistakes are more than ordinary and reach far beyond her son's actions. She continues to capitalize on the grief of everyone effected by this tragedy, which most definitely causes unnecessary suffering. I think initially she was motivated by her narcissism and her need to deflect (prove!) responsibility away from herself and keep talking about her non-role so she never has to think about the TRUTH. I feel so bad for her. It was and still is so easy for a kid in USA to get a gun, but it was so difficult for any parent around the world in the 1990s to be aware of mental problems, depression or suicidal thoughts among teenagers. I remember when a 15 y.o. girl at my school comitted suicide in very brutal way. She was my sister's friend. No one took us to psychologist after that, no teacher at school said anything AT ALL. And my parents were the educated ones, but still they needed some time to realize that was the right moment to seek help. It was year 2000 and while the knowledge about teenage depression is a lot better now, it seems that more and more kids get suicidal...

Except that two months before the shootings, the school notified Dylan's parents that he had written a very disturbing essay about wanting to kill people at school. Another parent brought it to their attention that Eric Harris had a website with a "kill list" on it and she knew how tight Dylan and Eric were. Dylan hacked a school computer and using info they found there, placed a threatening note in the locker of a boy he and Eric considered to be an enemy (they were suspended for that). Sorry but this did not just come out of nowhere. Dylan and Eric's parents could have foiled the whole plot simply by being aware the weapons being brought into their house. I'm not saying it's all their fault, but they are not blameless.
This women and the father of Dylan do not deserve any hate at all. They not only found out their son’s death on that horrendous day, they found out how he was involved in one of the worst massacres in American history. You can be the most hyper vigilant person, yet miss certain things. She doesn’t deserve to sit there, have panic attacks and be consistently villainised. She has gone through so much, I don’t know how anyone can deal with such news and continue living and raise awareness on mental health etc. Her son was a killer, but he died that day too and for a mother, that is such horrible news, even if he was a mass murderer. I really hope this women gains peace sometime. I don’t know how this whole incident won’t break anyone’s soul completely. The position she was and is in is so complex and horrible, I wouldn’t wish such a position on my enemy, where she feels horrible for missing the warning signs, horrible for not being a better mother, missing her one boy, as well as having contempt for what he done. People need to learn some empathy. She is in such a complicated position. Bless her

That's more than my parents ever did for me. Clear signs of Depression at age 12. They were too much in denial, too scared to bring it up or call the doctor.

I guess rapist are also victims too. And, there have been several reports/stories of students that have exposed them for bullying as well.... they weren't innocent, and they definitely weren't victims.

It's really gross and disturbing the amount of people saying "it's the schools fault!" or "The real bad guys are the bullies that hurt Eric and Dylan!" and just blaming everyone BUT them.
No. I don't care what the school did. Nor do I care what the bullies did. Is it unfortunate and completely repugnant that they were bullied and it was ignored by a callous school system? Yes.
Does it excuse/give leeway/exempt or take away ANY responsibility from the boys? No.
At the end of the day, THEY pulled the trigger. They killed innocent kids (not even the bullies to boot, but racially motivated and random death) and they are wholly responsible.
