  • Should I buy the Royal Enfield Himalayan? In this Royal Enfield Himalayan review you get to see me riding around the Himalayan mountains and proving once and for all whether this motorcycle is really a beast or not.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan is Royal Enfield's answer to the Himalayan mountains. Or any rugged terrain for that matter. It is an all purpose motorcycle, versatile and it is able to tackle rugged terrain.
A single cylinder 411cc engine, the Royal Enfield Himalayan packs a 14L petrol tank with the a frame that allows you to mount additional petrol cans to the front of the motorcycle.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan also has plenty of dashboard features, such as an electronic compass, fuel indicator, gear tachometer and it even tells you when the side stand is down.
The suspension of the Royal Enfield Himalayan is quite pleasing, it easily glides over the bumpiest roads and while I was riding it in the mountains - it proved an amazing asset.
The question you are probably asking yourself is should I buy Royal Enfield Himalayan. I go through the Royal Enfield Himalayan pros vs cons and truly there are much more pros than cons. Is the Royal enfield himalayan reliable? Once again, I have never had any breakdowns with this bike.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan wins the motorcycle of the year award from me! I'm not surprised as the Royal Enfield Himalayan is probably the most versatile, pleasurable motorcycle to ride in India.
At an affordable price it truly delivers a large package, great suspension, immediate torque and it is built like a tank. It can withstand most drops!
I share my experiences which lasted 3 months on this motorcycle across India. I travelled almost 20,000kms through 8 Indian states and even Nepal!
I really cannot make it clearer that this is the motorcycle you want to buy for Indian roads - I keep getting asked the question if the Royal Enfield Himalayan is worth buying or not, to which I always answer YES!!
The Royal Enfield Himalayan is highly deserving of my personal endorsement - I have given it the motorcycle of the year award on my channel because it is the motorcycle that has taken me to all of the places that I dreamt of - hassle free and in comfort - all the while I had a blast! The bike did so at a very low price, barely uses any petrol and the bike itself does not cost much at only 1.5 Lakh rupees or $3000 AUD. In the world of rentals - usually between 1000 and 2000 rupees daily depending on where you hire it from, once again very affordable.
The RE Himalayan is a true beast of a machine. The Royal Enfield Himalyan is thoroughly reviewed in this video.
I am not sponsored by Royal Enfield, nor have I been given or promised any incentive to make this video.
Please let me know in the comments section what you think of the RE Himalayan. Personally I think the REH gives the greatest value for money.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan has also been introduced to the Australian market and let me tell you Aussies love it! It even stands up to the bigger adventure tourers such as the Kawasaki KLR650 shown in this video. Australians have taken the bike well, there have been no consumer complaints in Australia.

Good to see you speaking the truth out that should stops the filthy mouth of those haters (you know whom am talking about)..it's a fact that I moved from HIMALAYAN to Dominar..but people who genuinely follow me,knows why..but I never ever would come up with click bait titles of my videos..just to seek views, which is what a specific bunch of Indian Motovloggers are doing..sad but true...and regarding Himalayan well it's a great bike with great potentials...and I miss it to be honest..all bikes and cars..for that matter everything and everyone on mother earth has pros and cons..while the Dominar is a very good and enjoyable bike and I love riding it to the core..but in India dual purpose bikes are needed more as our roads are off-road by default..and who knows alongside the Dominar I might buy a Himalayan again in future....

Ajay Janardhan yes I have and it was specific towards the RE shit toward the Himalayan and Himalayan users...but I don't support his statement and video title which says "don't buy a Royal Enfield".. which is total crap ..total wrong...just imagine a situation where tomorrow you get busted by the cops for any reason (God forbid)..and the entire society puts finger toward your family and say they are a criminal family..would that be right ? Obviously no...so that's the logic that needs to be applied here. I have faced issues on Dominar as well for which am in discussion with Bajaj..I have made a video on that as well..but I never said Don't buy a Bajaj...got it ? Clear ? Understood ?
PS: am no RE Fan boy.

Great to see you come out with this Roop. There have been quite a few guys around spilling out just pure venom against the Himalayan for just a few issues. I guess a few trips to the mechanic or learning to fix a few things on your own are part of the experience of being a complete rider. Kudos to you to come out and speak up for the Himalayan Tribe.

You, my friend, have improved a lot with your conceptualization of sequences in your videos. Great job done on the video! I can write this because I produce videos too, and off late, I have been posting a few videos in TH-cam too.
I have been watching your videos since I am also planning to buy a Himalayan, and your videos are all heart!
    Kudos, man!!!

I am looking forward to buy my second Royal Enfield this year, went through thousands of reviews for Himalayan on TH-cam. Every video seems to be sh*t, but this video was really encouraging. Thanks a tonne for such a decent review, and regarding the haters, every second person in this country who rides a motorcycle, even from home to work starts considering himself as a rider and start judging someone else's ride. To all those people I would only say that if you think a Dominar is better than a royal enfield, it's completely OK. Don't judge someone else's ride just because you love your own motorcycle.
Thank you for the review once again, subscribing your channel for sure. Hope to see your new videos soon.
    Wish you all the success.
    Cheers.

U have presented it in a very nice way, good job. i bought a himalayan BS4 (on sep 30 ). With the first experience i am very much satisfied with it. And they have improved the quality much more on the BS4 model and added fuel injection. Surprisingly I am getting a mileage of 35 before my first service. I am personally very satisfied with himalayan.

Their first version did have issues - but the bikes they sell now are a far cry from that !! I’ve seen people in Pennsylvania USA riding these and I’ve talked to a few people and they all love it !! It is fantastic value for money and fairly reliable - if properly cared for, these things are actually extremely reliable !

Always good to see a person speaking their hearts out with no strings tied. I have never ridden a Himalayan, In fact i have never sat on one however i will be buying that bike in any case. I go by two logic, "Understanding" and "Acceptance". Its a new bike, so there will be issues. Every product evolves until it reaches perfection. Best is to track, wait, and watch like i have been doing it since its launch and will continue to do so for the next 6 months after BS4 Version is launched.

Good and matured review. Yes I do agree this is the pilot model himalayan had released.. They should be looking at more improved model in the future. Personal experiences are always better than riding for 4 kms and making a review. I respect all manufacturers but as we have learned to compare and degrade others.. No change here as well. All the best!!! We all have positive and negative experiences.. It's OK..

At $3000 Australian dollars yes it would be sensational buying but try $6990 in Australia. This puts it in the price range of similar Japanese bikes that are very popular because of their reliability and good resale price. I like the look of the Himalayan and hope it does gain a good reputation.

    • @Wanderer1
      @Wanderer1  7 ปีที่แล้ว

I know mate, way too overpriced in Australia which is why I chose to buy a Kawasaki KLR650 instead. The BMW G310GS is coming out in Australia too (end of this year) - great adventure bike for only $5800 AUD.

  • @sivu23

Being an owner of Himalayan, I accept all the point he says! Every feature is amazing with the bike. The concerns I face are,
    1. Engine oil oozing out a bit even after it was rectified in second service (which was 700 kms) before
    2. Valve clearance to be done every 3000 Kms or we get mechanical noises from engine
    3. Electrical issues like indicators won't work (including hazard lights) when the bike goes more than 3.5K RPM.
    4. Parts like bolts and nuts getting rusted off very easily which makes my eyes melt.
P.S: I'm not a hater. But looking for a good servicing of the bike and quality assurance. I love the bike so much for how it performs!

    • @ensatlantic
      @ensatlantic 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Look, the average mechanic stop for a Bullet 500 or 350 was every 200 km. Thus the Himalayan with a 'need to be fixed' interval of 700-3000 km is a HUGE step forward for RE.

I love the look. I have no experience with the Himalayan. But I do own a bought new 2013 Royal Enfield B5 Bullet, and have had a lot of trouble with it. I belong to a Royal Enfield forum where a lot of other owners have had a lot of trouble with theirs as well, including broken frames and engine cases, which, fortunately I have not (yet) had. I do know the Royal Enfield Himalayan is not being sold in the U.S. because of quality issues.

Awesome and a sincere video. I own a Himalayan (one of the first one to be delivered in India/ Chennai ) and a Thunder Bird 350. Both are running very well. Both my bikes keep refining every time i ride. I have had a very good support from the dealer and RE as well. There are many who don't like RE...let them not buy ...they are free to buy any other motor bike.....or rather a bicycle..... good luck to them. I have had friends who are fed up with Bajaj, Honda , TVS....these guys are not going talk about it. What we do not know is what modifications they have done to these bikes, the way they have treated their bike , etc we do not know the whole story. There are still many who are waiting to buy one. Once again Great video.

What a great Video and what a great Person you are , saying the facts about Royal Enfield !
I had 3 Royal Enfields in my Motorbike Life after and between some Yapanese Bikes. But what i can say is that no bikes make me feel so proud and lucky like my Royal Enfields when i drive with them over German roads .
You mustn´t have a lot of horse Power and all the kind of electronics in your bike. That is not important . Important is what you can do with it and how many character does the bike bring in your mind . The Himalayen surprised me and i go to my dealer to see this machine alive and hope i can have a ride with this new Enduro bike .
I had at last a RE -ELECTRA EFI and the bike is running over 3 years without big problems . Only a loosen contact at the battery Fuse , that was it. 5 Minutes looking and then i drived away .
She need not much Petrol and take me werever i want to go and help me to come down by driving in my freetime .
So i can say that my RE run good and i would buy them ever and ever again . Back to the roots in this hurry and fast world speed.

Glad to hear that u had a good time with the Himalayan. But the haters u talk about r not so unfair in their comments. People have nearly lost their lives as their Himalayans would stop abruptly at a speed of 40-60. There have been instances where people got stuck at remote places while wandering bcoz their Himalayan didn't start after a long ride. I am neither a hater or lover but an observer having seen so many hearts broken by Himalayan. People have bought the bike with a lot of expectations and wishes but the bike hasnt really stood up. U r right when u say it's the first dual sport adventure bike in India n needs time to iron out issues but the customers r not guinea pigs to take up the trails with their hard earned money. I respect Ur opinion n glad that the bike performed well but the haters r surely entitled to their opinions. Just like how u love the experience sooo much, there r owners who hate is assss much. Just visit a royal Enfield service centre and hear out all the genuine complaints the customers r coming with. I spent 3 days listening to the various issues the riders had with the bike & I genuinely felt the issues can't be ignored. If royal Enfield has sorted out all the quality issues I would like to buy one right away. But a step of caution is always good because once Bitten is twice shy. Cheers.

i totally agree with what u said! i too have this bike, its been 10 months approx nd i have done crazy offroading trips on this..nd no fault till date. From my point of view, THE MAJOR CAUSE for the PROBLEM are non-efficient nd lazy RE service workshops (not the bike) : the workshop to which u give ur bike for service plays an important role. Yes, Himalayans or for that matter any bike can have an issue, but it can be fixed. Who will fix?- The service workshops offcourse! And the issue here in India is that, sadly i have seen many of the RE workshops not well managed..at some workshops i feel..that given the tools, i myself can do much better than the servicemen there..bcz they dont care abt each particular. They just do their thing nd give u the bike, (bcz they hav a lot of bikes maybe)..nd the problems remain..nd then u blame RE- the company! u need to understand that these r franchisees nd not company owned workshops. And thats where the problem lies! If u will find a good RE workshop in ur city who are dedicated to their work..then most of ur problems will be solved with ease! Best of Luck 🤗

Problem here is most buy motorcycles without proper knowledge!
Being a person who has been riding since the late 80’s on bikes from my uncles jawa to yezdi’s to the bullet, it was thrilling. We knew every part & the mechanism of each bike. The concept “Man & Machine” does not exist anymore as the passion that you show in the video is not really there with others!
Why I say there is a lack knowledge is because I fail to understand, why would someone buy a bike like the RE Himalayan and then shift to a Dominar or KTM RC etc., it makes no sense.
Also few who portray themselves as experts buy a new model without a wait and watch, then the mistake is repeated as they sell that bike in a hurry and buy another new unproven model that too from a completely different segment!
I have the 2017 model Himalayan its fantastic and great fun! I could have got the bike last year, but did a wait & watch. Buying the bike was completely my decision and now looking after it well, so that the bike looks after me on my rides is ONLY under my control and no one else!

Bawa Onabike I have actually moved from an old cast iron Bullet to a Pulsar 220 to a KTM Duke 200 and I feel like I have been upgrading at each step. The riding experience has improved at each upgrade. I never saw myself going back to RE until I saw the Continental GT but that was too expensive. Then one test ride on the Himalayan made me want to trade in my Duke for it. But yes, avoiding the first batch is always advisable as I have had more trouble on my Duke than the Bullet. Knowledge of internal function of a motorcycle is important and it is those old bikes that teach you a lot as it did me.
I am waiting for the KTM Adventure 390 but all the electronics and electromechanicals can be a cause for headache. I have avoided the Himalayan because of all the issues it has had. RE has a good product on their hands but they need to work on QC. The Himalayan has a very high defect rate which is a cause for concern on a bike meant to go to remote places. Otherwise I love its simplicity, its use of a carb (I would not buy a Himalayan with EFI) and the fact that it is designed to tour anywhere right out of the factory.
As for the Dominar, I would slap on a set of dual purpose tyres and a bash plate and use it as a dual sport. That's how I use my Duke 200.

Bawa Onabike if one is not satisfied with royal Enfield Himalayan be it whatever reason, what is the best alternative? Do we even have another offroader in India? So the best alternative is to go for a KTM or dominar, which definitely can't handle offroading as good as royal Enfield. But are better than Himalayan in every other aspect. And not everyone wants to be a bike mechanic, neither do they have the time, so most of them prefer modern bikes which gives them a piece of mind.

Every word you said was so true, i am also a himalayan owner, i enjoyed riding this rugged machine onroad and offroad and i have not experienced any issues whatsoever .Honestly i am not a big fan of bikes but Himalayan is truly outclass. And Speaking about the Himalayan haters, well.. we cannot shut them up, they have no clue about the capabilities of Himalayan. so let them bark and miss out the fun of riding the true adventure tourer. Cheers Mate :)

you're obviously right, Himalayan is a superb package for 1.5 inr but just cause of that you can't give a bike were silencer go loose or the coil burns off or a gear assembly from 1940 :(
i still don't wish to give up on this bike, it's such a good machine :|

Himalayan is NOT a cheap bike in INDIA. From a foreign perspective I totally agree with you. A lot cheaper bikes or scooters are more reliable than Himalayan. Even Bajaj scooter has covered Himalaya. I have seen people on Kinetic Honda on mountains. RELIABILITY scores more than ....................

    Interesting .. on the point of price in the UK a Himalayan is £ 4000 , a Suzuki sv650 £ 5500 .
The Suzuki has twice the power, twice the performance , proven bullet proof reliability , and a strong resale value .....
I know they are different types of bike , but to me that doesn't sound like quite such a good deal as your portraying ?

though people are gaining more views by adding attractive titles, the truth is the first batch of himalayans had really many issues to be frank. I have seen with my friends and we have become friends by meeting in service centers (like monthly twice). Himalayan has issues even now many are struggling to get them right, either their parts are faulty or services centers are not knowledge enough to service it. But ultimately mine is good with minor issues and fixed those, the issues I had are engine knocking sound (fixed in 4th attempt), oil leak(fixed in 2rd attempt), carbuerator (fixed in 3rd attempt), speedo meter(gone 3rd time now). Also many had front fork issues, keylock/ignition issue, wiring issue... I had broken down twice because of the stator coil (fixed in 3rd attempt). People are not spreading fake newses and its not few people had issues. Many had issues only few has got good bikes. Also I don't blame RE for other bikes, only this is bad and soon they will fix it but whomever has bought already and facing issues thats not good.

And what do you do with an electrical problem? My old jap singles have systems entirely independent of the battery and rectifier gubbins with separate ignition coils within the alternator, for very good reason. If you have charging component problems you're fecked with no kick induced spark. And before you say this doesn't happen there's vids showing it already has. Not good, and not safe in the outback. Apart from that the bike seems well suited to such use but that one fault would prevent it being my choice
