Cervantes Trophy Race 2023 - Can we repair our ripped spinnaker?

- Disaster strikes when our spinnaker is torn in two just days before our first offshore race of the season. In this video, we sail Killing Time from Guernsey to Cowes ahead of the RORC Cervantes Trophy race, but end up blowing our A4 kite in the process. Believe it or not, someone in Cowes thinks they can fix it for us...
Hi, I'm Alex, and I started sailing just over a year ago and somehow fell into yacht racing. Join me as I learn the ropes and prepare to compete in the legendary Fastnet race later this year!

I’m hoping to upgrade my filming kit so I can make higher quality videos, but it’s slow progress because the priority is paying for sailing kit, the offshore races we enter, plus any required safety courses. So if you enjoy my content and would like to see higher quality videos sooner, please consider my Amazon wish list. Thank you! 💙

GoPro Hero 10 - I love the image stabilisation on this version, but would recommend upgrading to enduro batteries (see below) - amzn.to/3l4WEiV
SanDisk Extreme 256GB microSDXC - this SD card will store about 12 hours of footage filmed on a GoPro Hero 10 in 1080p superview mode, which is the mode I use when mounting the camera on the pushpit - amzn.to/3Lebeiz
GoPro Media Mod for Hero 9/10/11 - an absolute game changer when it comes to hearing what people are saying onboard and removing too much wind, highly recommend - amzn.to/41XMzEW
GoPro Dual Battery Charger + Enduro Batteries - another way to level up and keep the camera rolling for longer and in low temperatures, would highly recommend - amzn.to/3Jy8qvq
GoPro Handlebar / Seat Post / Pole Mount - my ride or die, an absolute game changer when I started using this to mount the GoPro onboard, wouldn't go without it. I prefer this over the jaws (which broke on me one race when mounted on the pushpit). If I could only choose one mount to bring onboard, this would be it - amzn.to/3Lh0X5a
GoPro Chesty - an awesome piece of kit for capturing race starts from the bow and the cockpit drama during tacks/gybes, it's my second go-to mount for sailing - amzn.to/3mCDL7c
GoPro Shorty - useful anytime I want to give updates to the camera whilst on board, more scope for this during offshore races or cruising - amzn.to/3JzDif8
DJI Mini 2 - this is the drone I use to capture the most scenic shots, great value for money and really easy to learn to fly if you've never flown a drone before. I got the fly more combo, and am so glad I did, because multiple batteries and the external battery charger come in handy all the time - amzn.to/3JdKBI7
iPhone 11 - what I use to film the indoor shots, not the most recent edition, but it's good enough. Mine is bright yellow, to add a pop of colour to everyday life - amzn.to/3JvwJt1
Ring Light with Tripod Stand - as you will see from my early videos, I haven't yet mastered lighting when filming indoors. A recent purchase, not yet tried and tested, but will update with my view once this arrives! - amzn.to/3YHn1sZ
Wireless Lapel Mics - I needed to improve the quality of the audio from my early videos. A recent purchase, not yet tried and tested, but will update with my view once they arrive! - amzn.to/3l16faB

Wow what an adventure and experience
It was an experience, that’s for sure! Lessons learnt, now onwards and upwards… will definitely try to pause and think before rushing into action next time!
Shrimping I think they call that?
I think they do indeed… After that experience, I think I have done enough shrimping for a lifetime 😂🙈 Won’t be the last time though, I’m sure… Just hopefully it’s not of the Casquets in deep fog again!
Act in haste, repent at leisure 😐
Absolutely, lesson learnt! If only we had stopped to think about gybing (!?) or even a cockpit drop or using the autopilot so we had more hands… All easy to say in hindsight, but hopefully next time we will remember to pause and think through options before rushing into action, especially when we feel under pressure to act because of rocks and limited visibility!
