I've had the F900RSE for about 4 years. I've done 47k miles on it since then, a mix of commuting in central London, country roads, long distance travel and track days. Long distance - I've done 700m in one day in the summer, 500 in freezing weather in the winter. If you can only have one bike and want to do tracks, touring, city commuting and twisties then I think this is the best option - it's real strength is as an all-rounder. Tech is fanstastic, and it has always felt really grounded even in difficult situations like gusty motorways or technical tracks. Great to see the Akra available for the new model, I would definitely be looking at that. Not so sure about changing the riding position though, the current model is perfect for me for long distances so any change is a potential concern but I suppose I'm open to the possibility that it is an improvement. I agree that the integrated tail light and brake light is not that great. For me the main competitor when I look to replace the existing model will be the new Honda 1000cc Hornet.
I'm in a Facebook group for the F900r and the bike has a considerable water pump problem Every bit as bad as KTM's camshaft problem. I'm glad you have not had issues. I love and want this bike, BUT I need to know if they have fixed the water pump issue.
@@spartanx169xI’ve had the XR for 4 years and 21k miles. I’m very happy with it and it’s been completely reliable. I help moderate a FB page for these bikes and it’s true there are a number of people complaining of water pump failure but it’s a couple of dozen out of more than 20,000 members. If you buy one with manufacturers warranty then if you do have a problem then they will sort you out. I had a warranty issue on a previous BMW and they couldn’t have been more helpful. Hope this is helpful.
The sweet spot for Motorcycles IMO. Light enough, fast enough, comfortable enough. Looks? always subjective but I think the XR is the best looking compared to it's competitors. But the Yamaha triple takes some beating in all considerations.
Don't forget that nice new Triumph 800 Tiger Sport especially in Cosmic yellow. That could be the best of the bunch. It certainly looks a lot nicer than the Tracer.
Luckily in our country Australia, you are not required to have a catalytic converter on a Motorcycle, so I made my BMW R1150GS sound great and improved its mid range by removing the Cat and replacing it with a "Y" section keeping the stock Can which now sounds great.
would be interested to know if the petrol tank is any bigger, because that seemed too small on the previous offerings. The other things was the fiddlyness of the up and down quick shifter which seemed a bit crunchy I thought.
These mid-capacity sport tourers seem to excellent all-round packages with regard to comfort, performance, weight and price; I know quite a few people who’d be better served with one of these as opposed to buying up the large capacity ADVs…but to each his own I guess.
When you get a test ride you need to try it with Dynamic throttle response (but keep Road suspension setting). Total game-changer for the personality of the bike…
Being a long time fan and owner of BMW bikes I always thought the F900XR was a good looking bike that was competitively priced, unfortunately the parallel twin engine just didn't appeal however having recently taken an F900GS out for a test ride (which uses the same engine ) I was impressed with the engines performance which subsequently changed my mind about owning a bike with a parallel twin engine, I really like the look of the new 2025 XR and will definitely be taking one out for a test ride in the new year.
I got my '24 F900R in March. It's got pretty much all the options except headlight pro. This new version doesn't seem too different to my bike other than getting some of the options and standard features. I would be interested to see the difference in the riding position though. I don't feel that high up on mine, feeling quite far forward without significant weight on my wrists, the foot pegs are a bit high and I do get fatigue in my knees after a couple of hours. Other than that and the small fuel tank I think it's a great bike, comfortable, secure, direct handling. I've changed the exhaust on mine and that really makes a difference to the character of the bike too.
The adjustable front suspension is the big news here for me. I have an XR and the only thing I don’t like is the front end dive under braking. When my forks need servicing I can fix this with different springs and oil but it’s good that there’s the potential to dial this out from day one.
I wanted to like the XR I really did. On paper it is my kind of bike but there is just something missing. The 2025 updated do bring it closer tho. I never liked the big XR logo on the fairing so that being smaller for 2025 is a step in the right direction.
Totally underrated bikes and at a great price Aslo BMW service prices aren't as bad as a lot of people think my Triumph service cost is significantly more And for me BMW aftersales service is the best in the business
Underrated? They're way overrated! Boring to ride, no emotion at all, yet the roads are full of those - owing to the (undeserved) premium status of the brand
They are just a little boring and underwhelming. They look fine but they have their faults. The mid Triple engines from Yamaha and Triumph are far more exciting and that lovely new 800 Tiger Sport will be hard to beat.
Engine was in the 2012 husky nuda 900 years ago, i had one with a Remus can and decat, best sounding bike ever, this should be updated and refined over my bike.
I've had mine for over four years ago and critically, it has the dynamic pro engine mode (As well as a fruity SC Project exhaust). Without that option ticked, the bike is very sleepy. It's a completely different motorcycle with the more aggressive engine mapping.
Sounds like they’ve tried to bring a bit of that snappiness down to the regular Dynamic mode which sounds like a smart move! Bet it sounds great with the SC 👌
WOW now that's what I'm talking about a manufacturer that has a decent choice of colour schemes!!!😱😃 And WOW the colour scheme with the red wheels is absolutely right up my street absolutely perfection!!👌🏻👍🏻 And I can see why now you never comment on any of my moaning about manufacturer's not doing decent colour schemes anymore as you clearly don't like coloured wheels going by what you said?😬 Anyway great to see this type of colour scheme on any motorbike let alone BMW!!!👌🏻👍🏻😃
I recently traded one in against a new Triumph. My 18 month ownership was mostly good but, it needs more than a new paint job and adjustable forks. 1) it had the most uncomfortable saddle, I had to spend £400 on an aftermarket one. 2) forkdive was dangerous and unsettled the bike when coming to a halt. 3) I would prefer it to less top heavy and have a lower seat height. 4) they really do not get a good trade in value, even from bmw. I bought a 2 year old model for £10,000, traded it in 18 months later for only £5,000! Apparently the market was flooded with them. Put me off ever buying a bmw again.
I’m skeptical about getting the F900R A2 or MT07 A2. The thing about the F900R is the insurance is quite a bit higher than the MT07. But I like the F900R more than the MT07 just with the entertainment and other things but idk.
I hope that is the case with the improved aero on the XR. The buffeting was terrible on the XR I test rode last year. Both my son and I said thanks, no thanks for that bike because of it.
100cc less will not be made by the torque of the 3cylinders, the bmw emergency call, the telemetry in the app and the no maintenance chain are a good plus for bmw
The F900R was always a great bike. I already have dynamic pro, heated grips, and anyone can buy after-market exhaust (I don't want it louder, I respect my neighbours). Complaining about 105hp, really? It already has an aggressive riding position with your feet up under your arse and I don't want to be leaned right over like a squid, it's a naked roadster ffs. The suspension is fine if you don't ever go 2up. The only true improvement I see here is the lighter rims.
SOLID Products both. A pity it all goes downhill really fast when you start to add some day to day items from the options catalog. But I guess that's the BMW life, right ? ! 🙄🤦♂ Not OK with those dinky turn signals acting as tail light too. If you knock one out by any chance, there's instantly 50% less visibility from the rear and a higher chance of getting rear ended. OR a higher chance of sending mixed signals (what may seem to someone driving behind at night like you are signaling for a turn when you really ain't by pressing/pulling the brake lever at close to turn signal on-off intervals , all because you have only one light alive).
I had a 22 f900 it's to heavy for the class. The weight is also up high making for strange balance. Moved to a monster 937 more power and much lighter.
I have a 2021 F900xr, for what I need as a commuting and fun toy at the weekend it's a great bike. Although I did have to change the standard screen as it was useless at higher speed, glad BMW fixed that issue.
I am not a fan of indicators and braking in one unit. If this was just down to clean lines etc a few leds wouldn’t make much difference but to a half blind person driving behind you it might!
The F900XR is on my bucket list, but the integrated tail light is stupid and disappointing. I’d rather be seen than cool. If there’s no aftermarket solution, it could prevent me from buying the bike. I really appreciate the big tail light on my F750GS. Hey BMW, are you listening?
F800GT was better, lower wet weight, peak torque at 5800 rpm and belt drive. Bmw should prepare Bmw F1000GT with belt, parallel twin 130-140hp and 215kg wet weight, I would order in the same day.
F900GT would be 105hp I think ktm may be getting 125hp out of the better version of the Duke 890. The rpm an 1000cc parallel twin would have to rev to make 130-140hp would probably tear the bike apart. Also that's 50hour rebuild service I. That state of tune.
F800GT was never better. Had sligthly less wet weight cause of the lack to meet current emissions and missing a lot of technology that also adds weight. Engine might had max torque at slightly lower revs, but at low end it did have nothing, at top end it died and it vibe like hell.
@@AnReO nah, F800 engine was made in Austria, F 900 in China, with Rotax you can find example with 200k miles, good luck with F900.
