YouTuber Rick Shiels Joins LIV Golf While Pat Perez Relegated To The Booth

- On this Monday episode of Big Drive Energy the Big Drive Bros recap the weekend at Torrey Pines as Harris English captured his 5th victory on the PGA Tour, LIV Golf with some news moving Pat Perez to the booth and signing golf's biggest TH-camr in Rick Shiels to their staff. Ben An has some comments regarding golf and TH-cam, plus Jason Day's off script Malbon Wear at Torrey had some heads turning.

On the Rick doesnt have the right crowd or is not the hippest youtuber. I agreed with that initially and also thought a Grant Hirvat would have been a more natural choice. That said, Rick brings with him probably the best all round package in that he is the OG of YT golf, has been in it the longest, has the most subscribers, a great production team and importantly he is a PGA Professional with a wealth of knowledge on the game, the swing, equipment etc plus is a great interviewer. That brings a lot of legitimacy to the LIV product. Something that has been problematic for them in that your classic golf fan thinks LIV is not real golf. Sure you could have signed Dude Perfect or Mr Beast and have millions of young followers but that just dilutes the status of LIV even more.
Sure I would say Grant would have been a good choice as well but he is just a little too young to draw the more traditional viewer over in the sense that he doesnt really know many of the players on LIV that are older like a Oosthuizen, Westwood, Stenson etc. Rick has a more global knowledge of the game. On that point too Grant might have been a good fit but he is probably aiming for something with the PGA Tour and hope he gets it, Rick is older and probably second in line on something PGA tour so LIV was a great option for him.
@@stefanmuller9653 totally get that and think it’s great for them for sure, if he has that many subscribers it’s going to generate eyes no matter what, Horvat doesn’t have near the actual golf (not TH-cam) that Shiels does
