It's great. But doesn't have the same quality that once had. I have Benetton wool cardigans from my teenage years to this day. I'm always trying to steal my mom's hidden pieces.
Nowadays when I go to a Bennetton store it's just feels like any other fashion brand EITH CLOTHING THAT DONT FEEL UNIQUE OR I COULD PASS ON IN 20 YEARS OR SO

Reminds me of other forgotten European brands from eighties and nineties you do not hear about anymore Esprit, NafNaf, Chipie, Kookai.
And Pepe jeans, Replay. Which brands do you remember?

Benetton is still going strong here in Germany. For example they opened a huge shop in the prime location of the frankfurter Zeil (main shopping street) a few years ago. And they have two more smaller shops in the city.
But admittedly I don’t really shop there. It seems to be more of a brand for my parents generation who where young in the 80s. But I really like their colorful designs and the on (black and white😅) sweater I bought almost 10 years ago is still in very good condition.

As a teen, Benetton was worn by the wealthy kids in my school. We couldnt afford it.
When i was in college, i got a pair of dark blue and white striped benetton leggings on sale. People said i looked like i had jail pants. I loved them and wore them so much that they eventually wore out.

I was so excited to find a Benetton store when I visited Rome last year. Their clothes were still stylish and colorful, but there were a lot of gray, navy and tan items mixed in. Unfortunately I had no room in my suitcase. When I return next year I am taking an empty suitcase and shopping! Thanks for this video, I love all of your content!

I used to work for them 12 years ago in the US. People loved their slim cuts on suits and colorful staples. The issue was sizing in the US and the quality. Buttons poorly attached, colors fading (the crux!!!), and more and more synthetics that were neither trendy nor durable. They could have surfed on the athleisure wave to make a come back. I remember they were associated with Sisley who had an edgier side yet still too expensive for what it was compared to other similar brands.

I have always loved both Benetton and Esprit. Each year I have bought many items for my whole family and I keep doing so. ן live in a warm country so that the monochromatic colours of European brands have never enchanted me. In the bright light of the sun, even in winter, beige looks bland and lifeless. Iris of blessed memory, called it the colour of death. Lively and happy do Benneton and Esprit wearing people look around the dinner table. Best of luck in the years to come.❤

  • @anibalopina

UCO Benetton accounts for only 2% of the total Benetton group and it’s been losing money since 2012. This year no less Luciano Benetton left the company and spoke out against the now former CEO who apparently lied about the brand whole performance. I believe it will die rather soon. Whilst Zara and H&M have full control of their stores (including brand management, curation of the stores, items being sold etc) the franchised focus of Benetton makes it almost impossible for the company to control what small local retailers are doing with the brand. I believe they will disappear. They’re still present (in Europe and Asia mostly, that is) because of what it means for the Benetton family, nothing else. Ps: vintage Benetton pieces are to die for

What once was a strength, the family, turned out to be the main problem, due to their stubbornness and resistance to change! As rightly said in the video, Benetton moved from the colorful, durable and trustworthy quality clothes to the fast fashion world without changing its operating model, and that surely brought them to fail big time. The Oliviero Toscani campaign has been one of the many genius ideas of Benetton, however from year 2000 onwards, the different focus of the family 2nd generation, brought to turn the lights off on fashion and doubled down on more remunerative investments such as highways and real estate. The subsequent poor management, along with family reluctance to adapt to the changing dynamics of the industry, has prompted a progressive decline. Pity.

For me the quality or pieces was everything. Im still stealing pieces from my mom from the 80s.. but the ADS from Benetton was the reason I wantwd to become a model and work with fashion. It was the only brand in my childhood that felt that was for everyone. And nowadays its just bland and boring.

I worked at and eventually managed a Benetton in a mid sized southern city, from 1986-1991. Those were fun years. We were the “It” girl. My stores were owned by Italians and they were so fashionable and cool. I wish I had my old football jerseys. Benetton killed itself with the over the top political commentary. Taking on racism made sense but abortion, my pro choice, was too much. But what really killed them was the clothing didn’t evolve and they didn’t advertise for the next generation.

quiet luxury lasted ONE YEAR. is that how long late capitalism's crazy consumerism can withstand not having logos everywhere or distinctive new products every week?
it wasn't build to last. you can see how sad the glamazon influencers looked having nothing but a nondescript black box to show-off instead of a flashy new bag. and fashion brands need these influencers to move as much product as possible.
wearing a grey knit is almost an act of protest.

You have completely missed the point. Totally
It is ridiculous to talk about Zara and H + M. They are just cheap fast fashion, with all the sigma explorations of resources. Benetton did something revolutionary, but that threw up the sharp relief of the whole ethos of their advertising and the family behind it. This video lacks depth and has not engaged with the truth. Poorly done. Wasted opportunity. Why didn't you consider the family and exploitation?
