I just found your podcast / channel. Thank you guys so much for what you're doing. I'm a white dude that travels to HI a lot, and recently to the the Society Islands, where I got my first tattoo on Moorea. I always knew that my first tattoo had to mean something to me, but didn't know exactly what it was going to be. On that three week trip, island hopping, it hit me, as I fell in love with the people & culture. Sitting on different beaches and staying in different places, watching how friends and families interact with each other, with seemingly no regard to the monetary needs of modern culture of the hustle and bustle rat race, and chasing the almighty dollar... it hit me. So on my third to our last day there, I met with the artist, and told him what was important to me, and he nailed it. I love my tat, and I'm so glad that I chose it as my first. I will most likely add on, and will definitely be in a So Pacific motif. One thing that makes me a bit anxious or a bit guilty, or poser'esque, is that I am not of Polynesian blood. The closest claim to it, is that my grandparents are from the Azores, so when on on the Big Island, I definitely have some kinship with some the portuguese culture, but obviously not the same. I'd love to hear more about feelings from polynesians about how they / you feel about non polynesians sharing there culture via tattoos. Keep up the good work!
