Not just because you have survived this experience and will be able to empathize with your patients, but also because you are a bright young man who thinks quick on his feet. That kid in classroom 213, Logan Mitchel, am in awe of that kid, a real HERO. I saw him on the video, he was always level headed, the only kid worried about the injured, he immediately got up with the teacher and assisted the injured kids, even passing a girl who was on the safe spot her phone she left oh her desk, that kid was the one keeping that teacher focused. If he is reading this, you are amazing kid! What a way to react and to help others in the middle of an emergency! WELL DONE!

    People who say the death penalty for Nikolas is the easy way out and they want him to suffer with life in prison let me tell you something. Life in prison becomes a lifestyle, you make friends, you watch tv, you get commissary and you adjust. Being sentenced to death is a very painful sentence you sit for 15 to 20 years. Your brain literally turns to mush from living in fear. When they finally come to serve your warrant and strap you to the table that’s all you mentally know how to do is fear. So for those of you saying death is the easy way out you are in denial. It’s the ultimate sentence and it’s suited for someone like Nikolas. Just to let you know this guy is not going to sit and think about his victims with a life sentence. Infact it will probably become a new way of life for him, he has no family or anything. Now he’ll get Tv, munchies, recreational time, communication, friendships and so on. So I suggest start being real about what he did to these families. I would suggest turning his brain to complete mush. He will understand the fear that day of his acts when he himself has to serve his warrant for his body.

    • @emijcx
      @emijcx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      Totally agree and ive never been one for the death penalty.
      Him being alive gives him a platform over his victims. His name is remembered and not theirs. More than anything he gets the notoriety and fame he wanted. He'll get interviews and books and documentaries made. Mad fans writing him and obsessing. He doesn't deserve a platform nor any comfort in the remainder of his days.

    When they played the audio of the young man screaming, it broke my heart. Anthony Borges was severely injured laying in the middle of the hallway by himself, screaming for help in an empty hallway along with the ones who passed. With all his might he was screaming" help! help! Help me please help me please please ". I saw his documentary in spanish and he explains how scary it was just laying there with all the doors in that hallway closed, he tried calling his parents but unfortunatly no one answered, he wanted to tell them goodbye because he was bleeding profoundly and he thought he was not going to make it. I've seen the videos of all the audio tapes they played and it's terrorfying.... and the one person who caused this nightmare to reality to those innocent kids can't even stand to hear his own work being played out loud. Ive already posted this message in response to some comments but to anyone who is finding the teacher with a shaved head and glasses off-putting, I beg you to keep in mind that the process of testifying is intense and stressful, not to mention reliving those events. The tendency to make jokes is a defense mechanism, he is likely subconsciously or not distancing himself. It is important also to note that this man is a hero, he tried to check on a dying student to see if she was alive, while risking putting himself in line of sight of the shooter, and when the shooter paused because of an issue with his gun, he ordered all the students with him in the alcove in the hallway to run, giving many of them the opportunity to escape, he then held the door to the stairwell with his foot momentary while the shooter tried to follow them, allowing the students further distance from the shooter. He’s undeniably a hero. So before you comment on it with a lack of understanding and empathy, think of the reality of the situation and how you may respond. Maybe you find it in appropriate, and that’s okay, its out of place in such a meaningful and sad situation and that may feel uncomfortable, but I remind you to live with empathy, and an understanding that you can never know what you would do in someone else’s shoes because everyone lives their own personal experience and no one else’s.

You can deal with trauma differently of course, but he was super disrespectful and it’s obvious in everybody’s face that they are disgusted by his attitude. It’s surprising they didn’t call him out on his ignorant demeanor. He was the the same way in the parkland documentary. But not this bad, I’m amazed how much worse he actually seems to be. Definitely post traumatic stress. Definitely trying to be as accurate as possible. He’s probably a great teacher and a nice guy outside of the courtroom. His attempt to keep his composure is likely bringing out the nervous tick of telling bad jokes. When I had my gallbladder removed in 2001, it was my first real surgery. My husband has a great sense of humor. He always has and he made a 50 year radio career out of it. But that day, he was really nervous. When I came out of recovery and was wheeled into a room, he had flowers and a card he wrote that was a funny poem. It made me laugh and it hurt bad! My mother was also there. He was so nervous, he was making her laugh which lifted her spirits. But it made me laugh and it hurt so bad. I was literally laughing and crying at the same time. He wasn’t doing it deliberately. I don’t think this guy is doing this deliberately. The prosecutor knows everybody reacts differently on the stand. The parents may look surprised because he’s probably not usually like that.

Otherwise she is potentially putting whatever the jury's decision on the line for an appeal in the future. Trust me, I can't stand what the defendant did and should be punished. But he does have the right to a fair and balanced trial. If we don’t joke constantly, sometimes even dark humor about ourselves and the trauma, we would probably off ourselves. It’s a reaction, a defense mechanism. Some people shove it down and repress it, others broadcast it, laugh it off, and act like it was no big deal. You can’t help how you respond to trauma. Your brain does what it needs to protect itself.
