Custodies Combat Patrol can be built as 1,200 points by making all the terminators shield captians. If you don’t do that it’s about 800 points. Basically 2 of that box is a good 2,000 point army now. It’s not even close anymore.
Votann is my first army, a GREAT starting place, no FOMO on models because the range is so small🤣 They will surely be an army to grow with as they gain more units
I think Necrons should be on any beginner army list for what I think is about the most important thing (other than money) and that’s ease and speed of painting. Spray them black, dry brush them metal, paint the weapons, and base them. Done. A noob could paint an entire army in a month of weekends and look good enough to be proud of.
Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but Death Guard! The rules are very simple, and easy to grasp, our stratagems arent complex at all, and we have a bit of everything! Melee, Shooting, Psychic (rip), and our innate toughness makes some mistakes new players are bound to make more forgiving. Also im biased because Nurgle is the best chaos god
I wouldve put grey knights over nids as a better starter army. Cheapest next to custodes. Small unit pool. And not terribly complicated but can have a high skill ceiling.
Nids was an Honorable mention for sure. I struggle with how old the Grey Knights are right now. I'd be worried that someone would get into them just to have their line updated.
I started with Lore. Found the guys I liked in the Lore, and looked at what they're like to play on the table, found they're kinda OK. So I just went ahead, bought my models, painted up my Salamanders and voila. I'm an asshole who brought a Vehicle heavy army to my own demo game. XD
@@ReadersThatWargame I fell in love with the art for them and in lore. But I still chose to rock up to my first 2000 points game with all my army(sans a squad of scouts and infiltrators) embarked in 3 Impulsors and 2 Land Raider Reedemers with a Dreadnought for backup.
Someone needs to write a truly badass Ork book. Like set from their perspective.

These are some good starting points

Agreed, their my second army and main army right now.
Ork's because they teach you to have fun
That is very true and probably should be the 6th category on here.

I love Necrons, my only issue is that they can be a little hard to assemble at times. That is the only thing that kept them off this list.
I started with Necrons and yes they are fiddly. But on the tabletop they are also kind of forgiving to noob mistakes due to resurrecting mechanic.

I can see that. They do check a lot of the starter boxes for sure.

Orks because any mistakes made in assembling or painting makes them look mor Orky
Very true. That's an army I've been wanting to try for a while.

That's awesome, I've always loved the Salamanders in the lore.

That's really cool
@@ReadersThatWargame it was horrible. Tabled my opponent mid turn 3
That does suck. I hate games that end like that either way.
Leagues still are just too small of a range
They are, but they are a good teaching army because they are small and simple.
