As I get older Dan I run more back roads all the time ... after 36 years @ this my patience for the stupid driving nowdays on the Interstate is wearing thin. I don't really care if it takes longer , I'd rather have peace and see some sights along the way. I'm getting too old to be in a hurry anymore .. feel way more relaxed on the scenic routes

truck and trailer looking good Dan , little Bailey happy camper , Is that load of pipe pay pretty good , Did not have too many straps on either load Dan , for sure good idea bulk head on the front of it safety for sure , If you hauled the same stuff over and over where it did not hang over the front of the trailer you can put a bulk head on there , But I would not do it , For sure running the farm ground best way to truck,
be safe take care yourselves DAN

    Thanks for the video, Dan!!!
Another “run through the woods” route that you may consider around Chicago when heading East is one of my favorites.
From I57, take 17 East at Kankakee to Momence. Take 114 East on the south edge of Momence. 114 will change to hwy 10 at the Indiana state line. 10 intersects with I65 or you can stay on 10 until you get to hwy 49 to go north. This option lets you miss the I65, 80, 90 mess .
It’s about 30 miles from Kankakee to I65 and about 50 miles over to 49.
    Have a great weekend.

I use that exact route occasionally. Sometimes I make my way from 10 to US 30 or US 24 east, maybe even US 6 depending on how much clock I have. All will take me close to home just north of Fort Wayne In.

Thanks for explaining the bulkhead. My uncle Delbert used to tell me that a load of steel can be nasty if it ever slides forward. He used an early diesel with just a cab. He gave up trucking when his truck had a steering box lock up and his truck with gasoline rolled in a prairie field. He gave up trucking even though he survived the resulting fire. He took a payout from his insurance.

Hay Dan I really enjoy it when you hit the back roads. Get to see parts of the US that I am never going to see otherwise as based in the UK. (I do a yearly to Phoenix to visit family)Well pleased also that you brought up the subject of the front rack. I have wondered why these are not on trailers in the US. I worked in the road transport industry in. auz in the 80 and most fleets (not all) would have front and rear racks and usually a full set of side gates too. I am still involved in transport here in the UK but not operationally. Here in this part of the world it is mostly van and tort liners. Of course there are plenty of flat beds but have a tendency to be used for specialised freight and machinery.
