Lee Won Hee & Ki Chun Wang are THE LEGENDS...
they are great but to me song dae nam is a legend. Won a gold medal at age 34 in the 2012 olympics and at a higher weight class (middle weight) because he couldn't compete against kim jae bum at half middle weight since he was an up and coming star athlete .
Sorry to say this but Wang ki chun was sentenced 6 years for sexual assault against two teenage girls who were students of his gym🤦🤦

Jeon ki-young is the most successful korean male judoka
he was a splendid technician
however,Japanese players such as Otsuji,Tanabe,Arikawa and Fujita beat him
On the other hand,no Japanese players except Hidenori Horikoshi could
throw Yoon Dong-Sik until Yoon went to the MMA
That's why Yoon made me more impressive than Jeon
in addition,Horikoshi was never a top level player
but he also threw Toshihiko Koga with his favorite technique Ipponseoinage
Unlike current situation
Japanese female players had hard fights against south korean players such as
Jung Sun-Yong,Jung Sung-Sook,Cho Min-Sun,Kim Mi-jung,Moon Ji-Yoon and
current IJF referee Hyun Sook-Hee during 1990s
they couldn't beat Jung Sun-Yong from 1987 until her retirement in 1996
except when Chiyori Tateno pinned her at the 1992 olympics
moreover,they had never beaten Jung Sung-Sook for 12 years
until double olympic champion Ayumi Tanimoto beat her at the 2001 GP Sevilla
I couldn't say a word
but since the 2000s no south Korean female players have made me impressive,
even Jeong Bo-kyeong
Kye Sun-Hui,An Kum-Ae and Sol Kyong were outstanding players
but they all come from North Korea

After watching the video, I was super impressed to learn South Korea was a Judo powerhouse. But when I looked at the 2019 Judo World Champion results, the South Korea Judo team won only two medals. One Bronze and One Silver. WTF. And Japan won like 16. France was next at 6. Portugal, Netherlands, Canada, Georgia, Czech Rep., Isreal, Ukraine all won at least one Gold and had the same or higher medal count than South Korea. I think Georgia, Czech Rep. Ukraine, and Israel are over-taking South Korea.
It's way harder to keep Judo powerhouse name in modern Judo as the competition level has never been so high. As you mentioned new strong teams emerge so their powerhouse status have definitely decreased in last couple of years, but they are still one of the top teams. For example in 2018 they had 2 gold medals, in 2017 they got bronze in team competition as well as in 2018 (tough this was United Korea team).
@@GrapplerKingdom I went to check how each country did in the world judo championships and here is what I found. From 2014 to 2019, South Korea won a total of 15 medals. To provide some perspective to the South Korea medal count, Japan won 72 medals during the same period. Now that is what I call exceptional. I do give some credit to South Korea. But I think South Korea is fading in Judo.
Recently, korean national team changed their goal, tactics.
Because top player techniques have been released, and korean national team priority is winning the 1st in the Olympic games.
World judo championship is not important for them.
@Josh Carrol I get your point, but I think it's quite unfair to compare any nation to Japan as they are in a league of their own and after all the point of video was not to point at Korea as some superpower, but just to show some great and unique moves.

Koreans took Karate and made it superior with Taekwondo, it comes as no great surprise they have superior Judo

So, as an outsider, what is the best martial arts for practical defense? I always heard that MMA is the best, also Brazilian jiu jitsu and taekwondo. I heard and seen videos of karate people getting beaten by masters of other martial arts and street fighters, so I don't know. I'm not trying to start anything, but as an outsider who is somewhat interested in martial arts, what would be the best self defense type to learn? Also, I'm a female, if that matters. Thank you!

The number of gold medals won in judo at the Olympics. "Korea has 11." By the way, Japan has 48. South Korea is also doing its best, but it is impossible to catch up with Japan.
