My husband was murdered in 1972. Shot with a high powered rifle while sitting in a restaurant. Slain by a total stranger. 28 years old. My daughter and I have lived 51 years with the mental torture of that nightmare. I think of him every time I listen to this masterful song. It inspired me to dig down deep in that dark hole and write. My ramblings go on and on. notebooks filled with words of pain and anger, lost time, dead dreams.
If only I had Bob's gift to create a masterpiece to so magnificently honor his time on earth.

This is not just about one person or family; we have never wanted, and don't need, an American version of royalty to rule over us. And he doesn’t chat with us. Why? Because he has given all his words to us through the years IN HIS SONGS. what else is there for him to say? He has told us everything: he loves us; he cares about the world we live in. He wants us to always strive to do and BE better! He has poured out his heart through the decades. And we want him to CHAT with us? The man doesn’t chat! He sings volumes!!!

Saw Dylan in 74' w/ the Band at the Spectrum. First concert since his motorcycle accident. I was so overwhelmed I wept. And almost 50 years later, I still weep. As only he could write this poetry and to be touched so deeply by his words.
I remember the day, Sister Harold knocked on our 2nd grade door and told us "the President has been shot go home." It was solemn, even then, we were all Irish Catholic kids named after Kennedys. The joy had left our life.and we did lose our soul as a nation, never to be found.
Thank you Mr Dylan. Your music changed my life. Thank you for writing this for your fans. Not a word or reference was lost on us.
I listen to it often, always makes me cry. No other man on earth could have captured it how you did. God bless.

    Lyrics 🖤
Twas a dark day in Dallas, November '63
A day that will live on in infamy
    President Kennedy was a-ridin’ high
Good day to be livin' and a good day to die
Being led to the slaughter like a sacrificial lamb
He said, "Wait a minute, boys, you know who I am?"
"Of course we do. We know who you are."
Then they blew off his head while he was still in the car
Shot down like a dog in broad daylight
Was a matter of timing and the timing was right
You got unpaid debts; we've come to collect
We're gonna kill you with hatred; without any respect
We'll mock you and shock you and we'll put it in your face
We've already got someone here to take your place
The day they blew out the brains of the king
Thousands were watching; no one saw a thing
It happened so quickly, so quick, by surprise
Right there in front of everyone's eyes
Greatest magic trick ever under the sun
    Perfectly executed, skillfully done
Wolfman, oh wolfman, oh wolfman howl
    Rub-a-dub-dub, it's a murder most foul
    Hush, little children. You'll understand
The Beatles are comin'; they're gonna hold your hand
Slide down the banister, go get your coat
Ferry 'cross the Mersey and go for the throat
There's three bums comin' all dressed in rags
Pick up the pieces and lower the flags
I'm going to Woodstock; it's the Aquarian Age
Then I'll go to Altamont and sit near the stage
Put your head out the window; let the good times roll
There's a party going on behind the Grassy Knoll
Stack up the bricks, pour the cement
Don't say Dallas don't love you, Mr. President
Put your foot in the tank and step on the gas
Try to make it to the triple underpass
    Blackface singer, whiteface clown
Better not show your faces after the sun goes down
Up in the red light district, they've got cop on the beat
Living in a nightmare on Elm Street
When you're down in Deep Ellum, put your money in your shoe
Don't ask what your country can do for you
Cash on the ballot, money to burn
    Dealey Plaza, make left-hand turn
I'm going down to the crossroads; gonna flag a ride
The place where faith, hope, and charity died
Shoot him while he runs, boy. Shoot him while you can
See if you can shoot the invisible man
    Goodbye, Charlie. Goodbye, Uncle Sam
Frankly, Miss Scarlett, I don't give a damn
What is the truth, and where did it go?
Ask Oswald and Ruby; they oughta know
"Shut your mouth," said the wise old owl
Business is business, and it's a murder most foul
Tommy, can you hear me? I'm the Acid Queen
I'm riding in a long, black limousine
Riding in the backseat next to my wife
Heading straight on in to the afterlife
I'm leaning to the left; got my head in her lap
Hold on, I've been led into some kind of a trap
Where we ask no quarter, and no quarter do we give
We're right down the street from the street where you live
They mutilated his body, and they took out his brain
What more could they do? They piled on the pain
But his soul's not there where it was supposed to be at
For the last fifty years they've been searchin' for that
Freedom, oh freedom. Freedom cover me
I hate to tell you, mister, but only dead men are free
Send me some lovin'; tell me no lies
Throw the gun in the gutter and walk on by
Wake up, little Susie; let's go for a drive
Cross the Trinity River; let's keep hope alive
Turn the radio on; don't touch the dials
Parkland hospital, only six more miles
You got me dizzy, Miss Lizzy. You filled me with lead
That magic bullet of yours has gone to my head
I'm just a patsy like Patsy Cline
Never shot anyone from in front or behind
I've blood in my eye, got blood in my ear
I'm never gonna make it to the new frontier
Zapruder's film I seen night before
Seen it 33 times, maybe more
It's vile and deceitful. It's cruel and it's mean
Ugliest thing that you ever have seen
They killed him once and they killed him twice
Killed him like a human sacrifice
The day that they killed him, someone said to me, "Son
The age of the Antichrist has only begun."
Air Force One coming in through the gate
    Johnson sworn in at 2:38
Let me know when you decide to thrown in the towel
It is what it is, and it's murder most foul
    What's new, pussycat? What'd I say?
I said the soul of a nation been torn away
And it's beginning to go into a slow decay
And that it's 36 hours past Judgment Day

He's going on and on at the top of his lungs

Blood on the Tracks was always my favorite Dylan album. The most beautiful melodies and lyrics. Blonde on Blonde was a close second, with his incredibly unique and entrancing lyrics. Love and Theft next. But Rough and Rowdy Ways has shaken everything up. It left me gobsmacked. This is his greatest masterpiece, among many masterpieces. So grateful to have such a tremendous artist during my lifetime.

    [LYRICS]
    [Verse 1]
It was a dark day in Dallas, November '63
A day that will live on in infamy
    President Kennedy was a-ridin' high
Good day to be livin' and a good day to die
Being led to the slaughter like a sacrificial lamb
He said, "Wait a minute, boys, you know who I am?"
"Of course we do, we know who you are!"
Then they blew off his head while he was still in the car
Shot down like a dog in broad daylight
Was a matter of timing and the timing was right
You got unpaid debts, we've come to collect
We're gonna kill you with hatred, without any respect
We'll mock you and shock you and we'll put it in your face
We've already got someone here to take your place
The day they blew out the brains of the king
Thousands were watching, no one saw a thing
It happened so quickly, so quick, by surprise
Right there in front of everyone's eyes
Greatest magic trick ever under the sun
    Perfectly executed, skillfully done
Wolfman, oh wolfman, oh wolfman howl
    Rub-a-dub-dub, it's a murder most foul
    [Verse 2]
    Hush, little children, you'll understand
The Beatles are comin', they're gonna hold your hand
Slide down the banister, go get your coat
Ferry 'cross the Mersey and go for the throat
There's three bums comin' all dressed in rags
Pick up the pieces and lower the flags
I'm goin' to Woodstock, it's the Aquarian Age
Then I'll go to Altamont and sit near the stage
Put your head out the window, let the good times roll
There's a party going on behind the Grassy Knoll
Stack up the bricks, pour the cement
Don't say Dallas don't love you, Mr. President
Put your foot in the tank and then step on the gas
Try to make it to the triple underpass
    Blackface singer, whiteface clown
Better not show your faces after the sun goes down
Up in the red light district, they've got cop on the beat
Living in a nightmare on Elm Street
When you're down on Deep Ellum, put your money in your shoe
Don't ask what your country can do for you
Cash on the ballot, money to burn
Dealey Plaza, make a left-hand turn
I'm going down to the crossroads, gonna flag a ride
The place where faith, hope, and charity lie
Shoot him while he runs, boy, shoot him while you can
See if you can shoot the invisible man
    Goodbye, Charlie! Goodbye, Uncle Sam!
Frankly, Miss Scarlett, I don't give a damn
What is the truth, and where did it go?
Ask Oswald and Ruby, they oughta know
"Shut your mouth," said a wise old owl
Business is business, and it's a murder most foul
    [Verse 3]
Tommy, can you hear me? I'm the Acid Queen
I'm riding in a long, black Lincoln limousine
Ridin' in the backseat next to my wife
Headed straight on in to the afterlife
I'm leaning to the left, I got my head in her lap
Hold on, I've been led into some kind of a trap
Where we ask no quarter, and no quarter do we give
We're right down the street, from the street where you live
They mutilated his body and they took out his brain
What more could they do? They piled on the pain
But his soul was not there where it was supposed to be at
For the last fifty years they've been searchin' for that
Freedom, oh freedom, freedom over me
I hate to tell you, mister, but only dead men are free
Send me some lovin', then tell me no lie
Throw the gun in the gutter and walk on by
Wake up, little Susie, let's go for a drive
Cross the Trinity River, let's keep hope alive
Turn the radio on, don't touch the dials
Parkland hospital, only six more miles
You got me dizzy, Miss Lizzy, you filled me with lead
That magic bullet of yours has gone to my head
I'm just a patsy like Patsy Cline
Never shot anyone from in front or behind
I've blood in my eye, got blood in my ear
I'm never gonna make it to the new frontier
Zapruder's film I seen night before
Seen it thirty-three times, maybe more
It's vile and deceitful, it's cruel and it's mean
Ugliest thing that you ever have seen
They killed him once and they killed him twice
Killed him like a human sacrifice
The day that they killed him, someone said to me, "Son
The age of the Antichrist has just only begun"
Air Force One comin' in through the gate
    Johnson sworn in at 2:38
Let me know when you decide to throw in the towel
It is what it is, and it's murder most foul
    [Verse 4]
    What's new, pussycat? What'd I say?
I said the soul of a nation been torn away
And it's beginning to go into a slow decay
And that it's thirty-six hours past Judgment Day
Wolfman Jack, he's speaking in tongues
He's going on and on at the top of his lungs
Play me a song, Mr. Wolfman Jack
Play it for me in my long Cadillac
Play me that "Only the Good Die Young"

Play another one and "Another One Bites the Dust"
Play "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In God We Trust"

Stand there and wait for his head to explode
Play "Mystery Train" for Mr. Mystery

Play Oscar Peterson, play Stan Getz
Play "Blue Sky," play Dickey Betts

Tell them, "We're waiting, keep coming," we'll get them as well

This epic work puts me in a trance-like state every time - an utterly extraordinary contemplation of the events and cultural landscape of the 60s. Mr Dylan, Aloha to a boy from Duluth Minnesota. A masterpiece, nice work, nice storytelling, you cover everything plus more. I am honored to listen to this piece. A piano, a violin, ( maybe some cello]. soft background drums. So different without your guitar and harmonica. I will listen to this forever.
It’s a giant history lesson set to music.
You honor so many musicians and others that were so relevant in our country, and actors, and the Birdman of Alcatraz. You are an impossible act to follow, moonlight sonata in F sharp, I love every bloody line and chord and harmony.
I look at the Big Island coastline, hear this song in the crashing waves.
My blood and blonde hair go off to you. Mahalo my genius for making my life worthwhile as we struggle through these changing times. Can’t express how important it is and I will teach it and have the students shut their eyes and teach what you are saying. Then they can draw abstract art to the piece. I don't know what to say about it other than I'm deeply moved by it. As of writing I'm 38 years old, 39 this year but I don't feel a day over 18 or so. I started listening to Bob around 2010 or so, ridiculously late but I was born much too late and at wrong lattitude, or maybe not, who's to say anyway...In the fall/winter of 2020 and spring 2021 I drove city buses in the town of Zgierz in central Poland and I was listening to the music pretty much all the time while driving. I remember I often listened to this song late at night making my last round..the mood suited the late hour and the empty streets...and I know all the stuff about Johnson and the blink on the plane, grassy knoll and all that. When I was younger more often that not when I listened to Bob's early stuff I had tears in my eyes. It touched something in my soul that I cannot put my finger on...forgive my unwordiness.. :)

Bobby,Bobby,ol' Uncle Bob. Finest, most original work you've ever created. I've been in love with your poetry since 1967,when I was 8 years old and "Lay Lady Lay" came on the radio as I watched the sunrise from an old farm house outside of Cleveland,Ohio. Being 8,I didn't get all that sexy stuff,I just loved the song. Now at age 64, I'm more in love with your work than ever. I used to think you were the greatest poet since Shakespeare. Now, it's a toss up. Love you dearly, Maestro Dylan.

I lived this song my way Bob Dylan. I was the only kid at high school with a transistor radio in my ear that morning. My family loved the Pres. so much! I fell to the ground crying, Oh God, No!!!! An administrator was checking the halls and had a hard time getting out of me what was wrong. I told her to go inside and turn on the news. We were all sent home To tell our parents. His Essence will forever go in this song, And in the minds and hearts of good mankind. Thank you,Sir!!

    What a song!
I was born on 22.11.1954 and can still remember that day in 1963, it was my ninth birthday. It was afternoon here in Germany when the terrible news arrived. All the adults invited to our home were deeply shocked and went home immediately. Of course, as a child I didn't yet understand what this day meant in world history, but it stayed with me. Many people my age sometimes wish me a happy birthday even today because they remember the anniversary of Kenney's death. Bob Dylan has accompanied me my whole life with all his great lyrics and I have often attended his concerts. Because of that fact I am actually a very caring and empathetic human being. That being the case, what I stated is absolute fact. Nature and the Universe does not give a shit about human feelings, emotions, or thoughts. There is no "system" that enables or guarantees peace for all. Those admirable human notions and aspirations, if and when they are achieved come from the bottom up, not from the top down. The ideal is to have a system that allows most people to rise above their natural state. To give them a stake in the system. The mistake is in believing that unless there are no tragedies or travesties the system is beastly. Of course, something like Covid can come out of nowhere and wreck the publics faith in the very system they need to believe in. That is nature kicking in the door of our house of delusion that we are above it all. We are not, very trying and worrisome times ahead.

Wolfman, oh Wolfman, oh Wolfman, howl
    Rub-a-dub-dub, it's a murder most foul
    [Verse 2]
    Hush, little children, you'll understand
The Beatles are comin', they're gonna hold your hand
Slide down the banister, go get your coat
Ferry 'cross the Mersey and go for the throat
There's three bums comin' all dressed in rags
Pick up the pieces and lower the flags
I'm goin' to Woodstock, it's the Aquarian Age
Then I'll go over to Altamont and sit near the stage
Put your head out the window, let the good times roll
There's a party going on behind the Grassy Knoll
Stack up the bricks, pour the cement
Don't say Dallas don't love you, Mr. President
Put your foot in the tank and then step on the gas
Try to make it to the triple underpass
    Blackface singer, whiteface clown
Better not show your faces after the sun goes down
Up in the red light district, they've got cop on the beat
Living in a nightmare on Elm Street
When you're down on Deep Ellum, put your money in your shoe
Don't ask what your country can do for you
Cash on the barrelhead, money to burn
Dealey Plaza, make a left-hand turn
I'm going down to the crossroads, gonna flag a ride
The place where faith, hope, and charity died
Shoot him while he runs, boy, shoot him while you can
See if you can shoot the invisible man
    Goodbye, Charlie! Goodbye, Uncle Sam!
Frankly, Miss Scarlett, I don't give a damn
What is the truth, and where did it go?
Ask Oswald and Ruby, they oughta know
"Shut your mouth," said a wise old owl
Business is business, and it's a murder most foul
    [Verse 3]
Tommy, can you hear me? I'm the Acid Queen
I'm riding in a long, black Lincoln limousine
Ridin' in the back seat next to my wife

Play me that "Only the Good Die Young"

Someone was kind enough to post the lyrics below. Dylan tells you exactly what happened in this hauntingly beautiful song. They preoccupied the nation in the aftermath with Woodstock and the Beatles “there going to hold your hand”. Wolf man Jack speaking in tongues - he lead a nation astray. Wow!

Millions of souls have tuned in to listen to this mysteriously timed new work from Dylan ~ during a global pandemic and the political nightmare we're all (including Bob Dylan) suffering from. I think it's his way of handing out a little sane comfort to us all while the political insanity blares on around us. After all, he's been doing it almost all of his life, and thank god we've had him to listen to! Thank you for everything, Bob. So, what makes you believe the bankers game is over, when the Fed still exists in the 1913 law? But there was never any authority for the government in the Supreme Law of the Land document to create any central bank, much less one controlled by a private cartel of tiny oligarchs.
