So AMAZING and Cool! (aka cold). I remember first seeing ice boats when the Navesink River in N.J. finally froze over. Boats appeared everywhere! Single and doubles. Vintage ones hiding in garages for decades. As a sailor on unfreezing ocean waters; i’d love to go ice sailing! Also; live your beautiful wooden boat! ❤. Big fan of vintage ships. Also ❤ the beautiful reflections of the sky in the ice!!!
Very good memories when we had ice on the big lakes in the Netherlands, we used to ice sail with these sailing boats, so fast, so unieke, great to see.
Such a wild feeling. Used to sail on Oneida Lake in NY. Could outrun an 18 horse ski-doo. For any DIYers out there , we used 20 chainsaw bars for runners. Really brought back memories. Thank you !
As a decade or more long land-yachter I would have loved to have experienced ice. Have to say I thought all the sails seemed a bit too full, until the closing shots that is. Thank you.
This boat is a Whizz. It's a Class C skeeter. Same type of boat than the last one at the end of the video. We have 2 sizes of mast and sails. When it's too windy for the big rig, we use a DN mast and DN sail. It prevents us from being overpowered by the larger sail. At 8:19, it's the DN sail, and the last boat in the video has the big rig.
Great shots Denis! What a day!
Fantastic.
The feeling you must feel when sailing on ice that is so smooooooth.....
That's some nice looking ice.
I wonder if that is rare to have such flat ice ?
@@rayRay-pw6gz With the right weather conditions it can happen easily. Cold and clear with low wind speeds are ideal for smooth ice. 👍🏼

*unique Id like to experience this in person some day, very cool
@@domm2523 Very cold, actually! I’m adding iceboating to my bucket list. 👍🏼
Looks like a Gas ! Very cool !

Newer thought of using chainsaw bars for runners. Did you sharpen them to a wedge shape or did you use them as they were?
@@TN-kd8ju As is. Should have said three 20 inch bars. I’m guessing the longer the better. They really worked well. Thanks for asking
You Lucky guys. Beautiful
Awesome ice
Gorgeous!
TH-cam algorithm for the win! This is AMAZING!
Beautiful
Wow!
So much fun
This looks like so much fun! Any chance you could do a little tour of the boat/sled?... do you have brakes or are you pizza-plowing with the ~skates?

I'm an ice and land sailer in Colorado, only sailed on ice that smooth a few times in 30 years! It's an unbelievable experience!
Thanks Denis for posting this video. Any estimate of your top speed? And what’s the temperature on those two days of the video?
Maximum speed that day? I would guess between 40 and 50 mph. I didn't have my GPS to record it. I had enough work managing the GoPro camera!!
@@Whizz-10 Thanks for the info. The video was beautiful. 👍🏼
Perfect ! There is a boat at the 8:19 mark that has a DN sail and a full hull, can you say more about this design.

Do these craft float if the ice gives way?
They are wooden crafts. So yes, in a way, they float.
Do those things float ??
It's built with wood, so yes, it floats. But we prefer to keep them dry !!
You'd think there was a better way of checking the ice. 🤔
seems pretty straightforward
