oh my smurfs! too esy and never thought of that, that is a big help bec my job requires lots of bendi ng and i had to figure out how long when flatten the pipe!
This should work, it is just a matter of getting a sketch on the right face of the channel. What type of channel are you working with? I can record a quick video of the same technique if you tell me what profile you are looking to use.
I have not found a way to unbend a swept part. The closest you can come to it is either using Bend Part then suppressing the bend feature. I have done this with an iPart in the past. Where one member of the iPart has the bend feature suppressed. You can also try Unwrap. That might get you the results you are looking for, but that is going to be just a surface of the flattened state.
The Bend Part command will not straighten the part. You are seeing the suppression of a feature that gives the illusion of having a flat pattern to the part. However, there is a new function in Inventor 2020 called Unwrap. Unwrap will generate a surface for a face that cannot be flattened in Sheet Metal. Your question got me thinking if this would create a flat for round or square bar. It does work with square bar and tubes. It does not work with round bar. Do if you have Inventor 2020 and a shape with a flat face, Unwrap could give you the flat pattern you are seeking. The calculations Inventor is doing, may not match reality exactly, so look closely at the results.
To unfold the pipe, you should be able to suppress the feature. Inventor does see dependencies between features, so if you try to suppress the Bend Part feature, it might be suppressing additional features that it sees are dependent on the bend. I hope this helps.
I didn't show the effect of the Direction option in the dialog box. If you click that it should flip the direction of the bend. If that doesn't work, you just need to move your sketch to the other side of the bar. Hope this helps.
Oh my godness I can't believe how actually easy that was, compared to how the same task is done on SW, thank you so much for this amazing tip.
Explained very clearly

Hi Steve, Using the same principal but on channel I am trying to achieve a radius bend of 320 or 400mm any ideas ?

is it possible to unbend a swept part (bend steel tube, trying to unbend for bend detail) thanks

@@3DSteve52 thanks man, it's a surprise this isn't a standard feature in inventor to create a flat pattern for a bent part
Thanks
super helpful!!!!!
how to about from normally bent to straight?

Hola ! No funciona, no funciona desdoblar una tuberia que ha sido doblada inevntor 2021. Ideas?

how do i make it bend in the opposite direction????
