Other than having your track saw perfectly dialed in with the exact depth of the deck boards…..any tricks to keep the blade from cutting through the black flashing tape?

Can I ask what product you use to protect your joists from water? And how do you apply it in cold weather if it doesn't stick to the joist on its own?
