Lyrics:
This is our last goodbye
I hate to feel the love between us die
But it's over
Just hear this and then i'll go
You gave me more to live for
More than you'll ever know
This is our last embrace
Must I dream and always see your face
Why can't we overcome this wall
Well, maybe it's just because i didn't know you at all
Kiss me, please kiss me
But kiss me out of desire, babe, and not consolation
You know it makes me so angry 'cause i know that in time
I'll only make you cry, this is our last goodbye
I was at work when I first heard this song on the radio in 1994. I remember I stopped working, turned up the radio, and thought "who the heck is this?" I waited for the DJ to identify the song/singer, but that didn't happen. So, I immediately called the radio station, got through, and found out that it was Jeff Buckley. I had never heard of him or this song before. His voice and the hooks just sucked me in. After work that day, I drove to Tower Records (in Sacramento, California) and bought the Grace CD. What a joyful day that was. RIP. ❤️
Sacramento, great city!
Probably you heard the song on 100.5 The Point FM radio as it was called back then. In 1995 they changed the name to The Zone FM. That's how I heard for the first time this haunting tune here in Sacramento in 1994. It is so sad that there's nothing left now of the old Tower Records building.
My now departed ex boyfriend gave me his cd for my birthday. One of my favorite gifts of all time. Voice of an angel.
I was at Wildwood Beach NJ Taking acid for
I have alot of good memories of that tower of records having lived in sacramento in the 90's. That place was always fun so many bands to choose from back then, now its almost impossible to find one decent band
I was lucky I got to play bass with Jeff in his LA days. We played in the Wild Blue Yonder together, He was an amazing guy. I still get chills when I listen to Him sing. He was great guitar player also.
Oh ya Danny Carey from Tool was drumming and John Humphrey guitar and vocals.
a great player indeed. crazy good, convoluted, smooth harmonies. as a rhythm player i draw a lot from him. same goes for his arrangements... 🖤

Last goodbye mate!!!!
had the great honor of having a mutual friend with Jeff, Mario Sevayega who in may of 1995 introduced me to Jeff at a Show in New Haven. I asked to shake his hand and Jeff said NO, and proceeded to give me the BIGGEST hug. He felt a connection to me even before meeting me because my friend had told him about me and me being Colombian was a point of interest to him because his grandfather had lived in the Panama Canal zone while it was still part of Colombia. I always smile thinking about that awesome experience
Amazing.. always cherish that memory!! ❤

RIP Jeff Buckley (November 17, 1966 - May 29, 1997), aged 30
You will be remembered as a legend.
sad such a bright mind
Oh wow... I stumbled upon this very video/song on this date. Such a loss even these days
Only thirty 🥲 awful for such a terrific artist
An extremely tragic legend, from his birth, to his father abandoning him for drugs, to him drowning in the Mississippi river at a young age after the success of Grace. Heartbreaking from start to finish, and although I'm an atheist-leaning agnostic, I hope that somewhere on the other side, this gentle soul is finally at peace and reunited with the spirit that would have been his father on this planet.
@@le_th_ If Jeff was a Christian, then I will see him in Heaven one of these days. I would love to ask him why he decided to go into the Mississippi River?
I was invited by my ex (who has since passed away) to a Jeff Buckley concert back in 1994 or 1995 on Mill Avenue in Tempe, Arizona. At that time I had no idea who he was but I was completely blown away by the performance and knew I was witnessing something/someone special. I became a massive fan by the end of the show. When I heard about his untimely death I was shook to my core. I feel blessed that I was able to see Jeff and his amazing band perform before he passed away. His music will always have a special place in my heart.
Deep.
Yep, Mill Ave Theatre on July 31, 1994. Man, I miss the 90s on Mill Ave and, like you, am a HUGE fan of Jeff Buckley.
You indeed were blessed. I didn't see him live, but his music lives in me.
Omg he played here in AZ?
That was exactly the response of most of the audience who had seen him at the Trocadero in Philly that year. He opened for Julianna Hatfield and was far more impressive than she was. He completely won over the audience with what was probably the greatest performance I've ever seen. I was a teenage girl and a fan, but I was blown away.

I can't agreed more. This song is an anthem of all alternative music.
He has the most emotive voice ever in my opinion.
I remember reading something about him having a one in ten million people vocal register but I think you said it better 👍
His dad's is so similar...maybe more emotive but that's just opinion
love his voice!
Artists who write their own song lyrics, music usually sing them more emotively because it really means something to them.
Although, there are some people out there who can sing other people's lyrics, like Sinead O'Connor, and make you believe they're their own lyrics. However, that's because she had Borderline Personality Disorder and felt things extremely deeply compared to the average person.

Saying maybe you didn't know him at all
You didn't know him at all, oh, you didn't know

First time I am listening to this song and like it.
I saw Jeff play at a club in Boston Massachusetts in 1995 and I signed up for his fan club. After he died I received a letter and a copy of his guitar pick from his mother in the mail thanking everyone for their support of him. Very sweet!
It's like Jeff stepped out of a dream and into our reality for just a short time and then faded back ...we usually never have the same dream twice no matter how badly we want to...he lives now only in our memories. Sweet dreams Jeff...

Man, he had such a soulful voice. No one in 90's Alternative Rock sang like him. #RIP
In music period.
Radiohead is my favourite band but man Jeff's voice was truly unique. Really cool that Jeff inspired Radiohead with one of their songs after they went to one of his shows
Matt Bellamy from muse has stated he was influenced by Jeff’s soaring vocals
Jeff was music’s gift to humanity. He was too good for this world, he was too pure, like an angel. He came and left quickly like a ray of light. Rest In Peace poet.
He was not "too good" but he was an amazing poet and artist, and we can only hope that after shedding this mortal coil he is finally at peace and no longer hurting.
I think history will show Jeff Buckley to be one of the greatest singers of our time... he had guitar and writing skills off the charts as well, but I find it hard to find anybody of his era who had that voice, that range... I listen to his work and just get blown away with the sheer volume of talent in one person.
....Rolling Stone currently has him listed at 39th Best Singer ever.....but I agree with you, he'll end up much, much higher.
He is already recognized as one of the most influential singers of his time. Thom Yorke and Matt Bellamy were highly inspired by him. Grace was hailed as a masterpiece and I don't get why, though. I think it's one of those "promising artist dies young, let's give him 5 stars or else we seem like dicks" things. His guitar playing was above average as well, but I would say his songwriting skills at this point showed promise, at best. The best song is a cohen cover, and the best rock song is this, which is generic central. The vocals are so good that they obscure the fact that the melody is weak. Cheesy orchestra, really? And just a little too much showing off with the vocals. It's like okay, that super high note doesn't need to be there. High head voice and falsetto arent naturally powerful. You have to use them correctly. So yeah, this guy is pretty, has a very sexy voice for the girls like Bellamy whereas thom is singing from some parallel universe and sounds like an angelic DMT being. and his covers were good.
In fairness, he has a sensational voice, though not equal to his father, a much better guitar player than his father, but the lyrics aren’t anything special
@@archiederham2103 songs have better melodies and his voice is in a different class of music on its own
Best 90's vocalists are Jeff Buckley, Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, Eddie Vedder

I was sat in a car with a few friends. The guy driving was someone I had never met before. He put the radio on and this song was just starting. We all sat in silence until it finished when someone finally asked who was that? Andy, who was 3 years older than us said Jeff Buckley. I consumed everything he had recorded after that and still get Goosebumps when I here this track.

I've always thought it was very depressing- but I still love it.
This song was on the radio during a bad break up. Absolutely captures the sadness and desparation you feel when you've thrown away something you know you'll never quite find again. If it was possible to be "in love with" a celebrity you've never met, this was the one for me. We were the same age, I absolutely loved his music, the way he sang so soulfully, put his heart into his art. Those eyes. That voice. Something so special about him. Being a big Leonard Cohen fan, it says a lot that I immediately preferred Jeff Buckley's version of "Hallelujah" and still to this day, no one covers it better. When I found out he had drowned, it hurt profoundly, as if I'd lost a like-minded soul. (Coincidentally, my mother passed two days later..I was quite frankly more broken over Buckley's passing.) This song tears at my heart still, every time I hear it, nearly twenty years after his death. A beautiful soul, gone too soon.

Jeff Buckley is so amazing and talented but what about his band too? That bass line is fucking sick!
ikr. the band also seemed to have a chemistry with Jeff. Columbia should have signed Jeff and the band, and called them... idk... "Folkadelic?"
Guerilla Gorilla I just read an article that said Jeff loved the idea of a band and they even came up with the name two ninas. But, their manager said he should keep his name because people already knew him as jeff buckley.
yeah,man,totally :D
I know, right?! They´re amazing!
Hey, little information for you guys. They actually looked for musicians specially for this album during its writing and preparation. Andy Wallace who produced with jeff, and mixed this album, really tried to find the good drums and bass duo. I can't remember where they've find them but both drums and bass player didn't know each other before this project. They went to a kind of an isolated place in the country side somewhere around NYC (can't remember) for a few months to start rehearsals and then recording. It ended up pretty well and the musicians fit perfectly together and with jeff's voice and playing, this is something strong for this album to me, bass and drums are really working together in the most beautiful way. That kind of things really help great album to become greater and then a classic album.
I heard this story from Mr Wallace's mouth so you can trust me on this one
Rip Jeff, thank you for your beautiful music full of heart and soul.

This track and Grace what truly great songs 🎼🎵🎶🎼🎙
What else I love about Last Goodbye is the Indian influence, those strings and the orchestral arrangement behind his voice is unusual and gorgeous.
jeff was fan of nusrat fateh ali khan ( well, he was pakistani), he once said about him ( in the Sin) "he's my Elvis, that's my guy. I listen to him everyday".He had the opportunity to meet him. They both died the same year.
+Michael Lyle and u read carefully before replying like that
they're not really indian lol. He just REALLY liked the sound of open tunings on guitar, like I think this song is in open G.
open g thats right:)
its still indian influence...
There are very, very, very few songs better than this one. Rest in peace, Jeff.
Goos bumps all over as soon as those first chords unfold! How does one makes such an ANTHEM out of a break up song???? True genius! Gone WAY too soon! Amazing artist and kick-ass record too!
His voice is miraculous …
Had the utmost pleasure of seeing him play in the very early 90s in NYC. His energy, his talents and his singularity is something I have only been in the presence of a few times in this life. Was life affirming.
After all these years, still crying hearing this. Wow 🖤
How could anyone give a thumbs down on a Jeff Buckley track? Wow, I feel sorry, that people have " no clue" or don't get the magnitude of the pure raw talent that eminated from this artist. He is truly missed, and those that are " in the know" are truly saddened from his early departure from here , and will adore and admire him for all of time . We love you Jeff , Rest in peace
I love ..this guy ...so sad ...his voice ....shook the Ground ...wow ..amazing !!!
Can't help but cry...... but can't not keep re-addressing this song, and many others of his.....hope you've found that thing that you gave/give to all us still.....❤️😢
You give me more that you'll ever know. Thanks Jeff!
I was so in love with this man... what an artist he was. I still listen to his music, and still feel the same. 3:)
Every break-up ever between two people is distilled into the power and beauty of Jeff's voice.
Beautiful song
