  • In this video, I'll be talking about recording an acoustic guitar with a condenser microphone - some of the polar patterns available, and comparing their sound.
This is a series of videos on some tips for recording in the Americana genre (including Roots, Folk, Singer/Songwriter, etc), which is pretty different from how it's often done in pop, country and commercial rock music.
I'm a guitarist, and I love the sound of a solid, natural acoustic that isn't painfully bright, and doesn't sound like your head is jammed into the sound hole. I feel like in modern pop and country that is often the case. I usually just use one microphone to get a sound I like. There's a number of reasons for that, which I'll explain, but with that in mind, there are many variables, especially the kind of mic you select to use for the job. This video goes a bit more in depth into the sonic variations you can achieve with the different polar patterns available on many condenser mics. The differences are subtle, yet important.
Thanks for watching! Please leave some feedback on what you hear and what you think is useful.
