Those "thick" glasses, are actually Bruce Lee's real prescription. Poor eyesight since he was young and wears mostly contacts and he was so poor in the States at one time, he could not afford to get them fixed, so he kept them broken as a reminder of the hard times he had to endure before he made it. On a sad note, he was buried with those glasses as his wife put it in with him.

I can see why you removed the "dance" scene, probably best. Few people realize its actually a plot point where Suzuki is actually a flesh peddler among other things as within the settlement many of the Japanese higher ups in government go to him for "leisure" supplies from the home land, (also why Petrov is his close friend internationally as well on the drug front as some suggested), which is why they are quick to come to his aid and why he wanted the Jing Wu School out of the picture. It is also a reflection of character as you can see the Japanese are shown more evil with little to no respect for their women, while the Chinese have strong women fighters. Its one of those "Yes the scene exists for mature entertainment." but it at least adds to the plot as well.

Nice reaction ! Interesting thing about this film - when the last fight between Bruce and japanese boss ended, you can see the bad guy fly through the doors and land on his back. Soo, it wasnt the japanise actor who did this stunt, it was non other than Jackie Chan himself, at that time he did a lot of stunt work include this one. Jackie also was one of the fighters who did fight against Bruce in Enter the Dragon movie.

    • @Texy88
      @Texy88 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Jackie is also visible practising before the first attack on the Jing-Wu School after Chen Zhen's (Bruce Lee) initial attack on the Japanese school. Although it's blurry in this video reaction, one of the bits is at 18:00, although Jackie does look different because this was before his cosmetic surgery to give him his more open-eyed look that we know him better for today (that surgery didn't happen until 1976).

@@shadow_dancer We also see Jackie's former Peking Opera classmate Yuen Wah as one of the men taunting Chen Zhen at the park gate (he doubled Bruce for the gymnastics in this film).
Another face you might spot as one of the Japanese fighters wearing the black trousers and grey gi tops is Lam Ching-Ying, who gets his biggest moment in this by attacking Chen Zhen with a broom when Chen Zhen takes on the Japanese school for the second time (in the film you see his face very clearly when Chen whacks him -38:27 is where the reactionary close-up of Lam occurs in this reaction).
Peter Chan Lung is another one who, like Lam, appears in this and would appear in a lot of Sammo Hung's films. He is the *second* person to challenge Chen when the Japanese school is first challenged (he jumps up at 11:29).

Subscribed! and Thank You, as Bruce Lee brings back memories of my Highschool days, so long ago.
You asked which movie should you watch next.
"The Big Boss" (1971) was Bruce Lee's first movie. As I remember, the picture quality was poor. But it is the one, that inspired all of us kids to learn Kung Fu.
Next, "Fist Of Fury" (1972) which you just watched. Then...
    "The Way Of The Dragon"
(1972) (Excellent!) This movie established Bruce as the World's Greatest Champion. With epic battles against the Japanese champion, European champion, and finally the American champion who's name I will not mention as you already know of him, and I don't want to spoil it for you. But I will say, the picture quality is great, and You're Gonna Love it!
    Next:
    "Enter The Dragon" (1973)
His best! (which you've already done.)
    Then, last but not least;
    "Game Of Death"
Unfortunately Bruce died before finishing this movie, himself. And therefore this movie is shrouded in controversy. All tolled, you should definitely react to this movie, Last!
    So, to clarify.
    1. The Big Boss
    2. The Way Of The Dragon
    3. Game Of Death
    And again, Thank You!

Even now in 2023 Bruce Lee is still decades ahead of everyone else.
Examine "Game Of Death" there were no stunt men.
First is Dan Inosanto martial arts instructor of:
      Jeet Kune Do
      Arnis
      Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
      Pencak silat
Next is Ji Han-jae martial arts instructor of:
South Korean Hapkido and founder of Sin Moo Hapkido
And finally Kareem Abdul-Jabbar a student of Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do
      "Way Of The Dragon" had:
Hwang In-shik a grandmaster of Hapkido
      Bob Wall a disciple of
      Karate
      Aikido
      Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
      Finally there is Chuck Norris
8th Degree Black Belt and Grand Master of Tae Kwon Do
No one has even imagined the brilliance and beauty of those two movies, let alone attempt the level of that excellence.

You probably noticed the sole credit for action choreography was Han Ying-Chieh, who also had a small role in _Fist of Fury._ Despite this, in reality all of the fight scenes that have Bruce Lee in them were choreographed by Bruce himself (which also explains why the overall "feel" of fight scenes without his character on-screen, such as the one where the Japanese duff up the Jing-Wu members in retaliation to Bruce's character doing the same thing to their school just beforehand, is so different). Bruce surrendered credit to Han out of respect to an elder.
Han plays the man visible on the left in the window at 23:22.

Love this reaction, even though there is factual elements to the story, it is also fictionalised. However, the premise of the movie took place during World War II, when Japan was on the side of Germany and occupied parts of China, including Shanghai. The Japanese committed bad atrocities against the Chinese during WWII, so when this movie was released in 1972, those atrocities were still fresh in the minds of Chinese people, and when Bruce Lee made them eat their words after the first school fight, people in Chinese Theatres were going crazy, jumping up and down, screaming and shouting with excitement. They almost felt like Bruce Lee had taken revenge on the Japanese for what they have done during WWII.

That's how impactful this movie has been to me and many others throughout the world. Glad you enjoyed it.
    Some little trivia for you:
The fat policeman is played by Lo Wei, the director of the film.
Fang the cook trying to kill Chen with a cleaver is played by fight choregrapher Han Ying Chieh (although Lee obviously put his own unique stamp on it). That guy also played the big boss in Big Boss.
The Russian fighter is played by Bob Baker, a US student of Lee.
The stunt double that gets kick through the shoji wall at the end was a young debuting Jackie Chan.
The nunchuks were added by Lee as he felt that it would be more realistic when fighting so many opponents and then a master swordsman at the end. It became his trademark afterwards.
The suicide run at the end was scripted in by Lee who felt his character should die for all the people he killed. The audience saw it as a hero's death.

No, Bruce did not dub his own voice. However, he *did* dub Robert Baker's lines in both the Mandarin and Cantonese versions (you can tell by the unique "twang" in the delivery of the lines). At the time Hong Kong movies were not shot in sync-sound so all dialogue was recorded and dubbed in later. It was not until _Police Story III: Supercop_ (1992) that at last a Hong Kong movie was shot sync-sound, with the actors' real voices being heard for the first time.
In July I was lucky enough to see a 4K remastered version of the original Mandarin-language version of _Fist of Fury_ in a specific London cinema. It was such an amazing experience finally seeing a Bruce Lee film on the big screen with an audience!

This movie is my favorite Bruce Lee film. The final Fight is perfect in my opinion against the white guy. If you studied WingChun martial arts, it is fantastic display of WC in action, executed perfectly.... and so god damn fast! He was a beast of a martial artist. People can argue he wasnt a fighter.... even though he had an extensive reputation on the streets for fighting and a police record to back that up. He was a western boxer in his highschool days and became the regional champion. His older brother was a national competitor in fencing and taught Bruce distancing with fencing footwork which is on clear display with his Chuck Noris fight right before the oblique foot-check. He was absolutely a fighter.
He was in phenomenal shape, of the most top tier bodybuilders ever. That alone is a reason not to tangle with him. While a person could argue it was all choreographed moves, Bruce came up with all the choreography and implemented it perfectly. He was highly skilled in his ways.

I saw this movie when it first came to the US. But it was titled, " Chinese Connection". Bruce Lee open the doors to Martial Arts, into the US and the rest of the world. Though every culture have there own form of fighting arts. From Greco-Roman Wrestling to Boxing. Even the Native Indigenise of the US, have there own fighting art. I also would like to say, I've been asked, Which Martial Art is the best? Due to my own studies of Martial arts. My answer is alway," A good teacher can direct you to being a good student. But its up you the student, to put in the time and learn as much as possible and explore different technic and styles to become a well rounded fighter.

I'm no expert on martial arts, but I think a lot of Bruce Lee's moves in the movies are Wing Chun. All those rapid combos.

    • @fireeaglefitnessmartialart935

Wingchun yes. But he had already trained in various styles that show up in his movies. Boxing styles strikes, karate/taekwondo style kicks, a few grappling/clinch moves. Though yes, wingchun is the center of his moveset.

@@fireeaglefitnessmartialart935 Yes, I know he had been learning any martial arts that worked and he would incorporate it into his martial arts, but when I see his fighting, I see lots of Wing Chun moves.

He achieved a punching power of 350 pounds, which is actually the same as Muhammad Ali. Even more impressive when you consider Ali weighed twice as much as Lee. 👀 That's why he's punches so hard and so fast ⚡

A series of wars and confrontations took place between 1880 and 1945, with Japan invading and seizing Taiwan, Manchuria and most of China. Japan was eventually defeated and withdrew in 1945. There's multiple of Chinese martial arts movie revolving around this time including Jet Li with Fist Of Legend, Ip Man 2 with Donnie Yen.

Chen found out his teacher was murdered. He vowed to avenge his death. With vast amounts of knowledge he is known as Fist Of Fury! He avenged his teacher but he knew there would be consequences. The police are waiting for him. He gives off a flying kick and is gunned down. This is my favorite movie Bruce was in. It is worth the effort.

great movie, but it is such of its time and production values back then. I kind of wish they just released it in the original language instead of the english dubbing, but then again, maybe that is part of its charm from those old Hong Kong movies? But you gotta love a revenge movie!

    • @Texy88
      @Texy88 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Unfortunately back then Hong Kong's subtitled films had those often incorrect, unintentionally-comic, sometimes typo-ridden English subtitles with the Chinese characters above them, with them sometimes reading off the screen so people would have had to guess what the far left and far right of the English lines said whenever that happened. Later DVD/Blu-Ray/4K Ultra HD releases did away with those and replaced them with subtitles that did a far better job.
It is also not just production values of the time that affected this film and others of its kind back then; Hong Kong studios didn't have anything like the kind of budget of Hollywood studios (they couldn't even afford optical/chromakey effects nor sugar-glass at the best of times!). The vast majority of this film was shot on studio sets in Golden Harvest; very little was shot on location.
The English dubs such as the one you're hearing here were actually done in Golden Harvest in Hong with a *very limited* number of voice actors doing it all at breakneck speed (again, monetary constraints).

It might be a little useful sometimes to do a little research before watching a movie, the movie is supposed to take place during a period in history where Japan took over China. Although the character of Chen avenging his teacher is a work of fiction, but Huo Yuan Jia was definitely a real famous chinese kung fu fighter. That's why the Japanese in this movie has so much power and influence. Additionally Chinese kung fu is sometimes referred to as chinese boxing, this is not to be confused with western boxing.

You can have this power too. It is hard to get to this level of martial arts. There are many schools that teach this technique. All martial arts can give you an advantage in self protection. It is addictive as the training gets more intense. Going home drenched in sweat is a great feeling. As you become more powerful, you want more of it. The first day will leave you crippled and sore and willing to give up. Don`t fall for it. it simply shows you how weak you really are. You must want to be great or else you will give up. To be great is to take it on and become super human no matter the cost. I got my black belt in 4 yrs. It was not easy but it was worth all the effort. It feels great to leave class each day drenched in sweat! You can`t imagine the feeling of being pushed and wanting more. The human body can do amazing things if you want to push it. These people are super human and you can be that too. Pain can be pleasure if applied a certain way. Imagine being able to kick anyone`s ass just from training. The black belt is the gold standard of human being. If you saw what I saw getting to that belt, you would want it too. Super human power! That is what the black belt gives you! Movies mean nothing. The real thing is much different. I have seen things that defy human ability. 100 squats on one leg and then the other. 200 pushups on fingertips I saw it done! The real truth is KUK SOOL WON is the monster martial arts of all martial arts. These men are not human. Now I am like them. I got my black belt after 8 hours of grueling test and I was bed ridden for two days after! KUK SOOL WON is banned from the UFC and there is a reason for that. It is a war fighting technique and it is banned for that reason. It focuses on killing the aggressor. It is a very old martial art. I have a black belt in this sect and it was not easy to get! It was very painful to spar with the grand master! He kicked my ass! 8 hours of getting my ass kicked and I stood up at the end. That got me my black belt. KUK SOOL WON is no joke! It is brutal!
