BOTW is now seven years old and still hasn’t officially been placed in the timeline.
Maybe Nintendo have given up on the timeline or maybe the Wild era is it’s own thing, after all being very different in almost every way from previous instalments.
EOW seems to be following a similar trend though it appears to be more directly story focused?
One thing is for sure, it seems to have a bit of everything from past titles, even Zelda wearing the hooded cloak gives off big Twilight Princess vibes.
It will definitely be interesting to see what happens in this new game and it’s great that there are an abundance of clans and settlements from what we can tell?
Personally I’m very excited for the Sheikah also making an appearance again.

@@Cosmosis-86 They have explicitly stated multiple times in the developer interviews that they want to leave the so-called 'official chronology' behind, and that for them, any relationship between the games is nothing more than an afterthought, and that the references are just there because they thought they would look cool to the players, not because they want to imbue further meaning into them. We have seen this time after time, and this very same TH-cam channel has videos covering some of these interviews. At this point, I am convinced that this community is in a severe case of denial.

Legends tend to be vague and written by the victors. Then over time get jumble up with other legends that share similarities. Stories change over long periods of time. So Zelda creators place games loosely in a time line so we the gamers/online creators can try to place it in a time line to tell different storys(legends). Everone tends to play games different ways their story/legend will different. So a true perfect time line would be impossible to have like proving a legend that been pass down generations to be 100% accurate. People love to embellish stories as much as they love telling them. That one of my favorite part of the Zelda games it's your story play the way you want. And when theory come out try enjoy listening to them and comparing your experiences with game to see if it lines up .

I have 4 ideas of where in the timeline echoes of wisdom will be
    1. Like you said in the video and most likely between a link between worlds and zelda 1 and the evidence you explained in the video
    2. The game takes place between twilight princess and four swords adventures as the races line up between the 3 games and could explain how Hyrule became what it is in four swords adventures with the multiple rifts in Hyrule messing around with the geography
    3. This takes place at the beginning of the downfall timeline and becomes the story of the imprisoning war as told in a link to the past since links not around and zelda could be gathering the sages to defeat ganon.
    4. This could be the beginning of the new unified timeline and explain how botw and totk Hyrule became what it is through a timeline conversion

I think we need to know more about the setup of Echoes to confirm a true placement, specifically on what is going on with Link, Zelda’s crystal sealing, Ganon, Triforce whereabouts, and those rifts. Also, Echoes will most likely contain an origin story that sets up the world of the game. These are much more important than map placements in my opinion.
While Echoes is most definitely a downfall game, there are two issues that don’t make sense and simply don’t belong; The Great Deku Tree and the Gerudo. Hence, placing Echoes centuries after A Link Between Worlds doesn’t make sense unless there are multiverse shenanigans with those rifts.
The Great Deku Tree is inherently tied to Ocarina of Time and The Wind Waker (adult timeline). There are no plot threads whatsoever of the Tree in the other timeline branches. So for the Tree to suddenly appear in Echoes centuries after not appearing in any other previous downfall games does not make sense. Same thing with the Gerudos. They simply do not exist in the downfall timeline as far as we know, so for them to appear centuries later is just odd.
That’s why I feel that Echoes’ placement as a prequel to A Link to the Past might make more sense. It would be the first downfall game in the timeline after or even during the Imprisoning War. It’s plausible for the Tree and the Gerudo to remain in this prequel placement as it’s close after Ocarina of Time. It also fits the fact that both River and Sea Zoras are side by side, as eventually the River Zoras will be the dominant species in the downfall timeline.
Again, we need more information to process all this. What’s curious to me is how Ganon is easily defeated here and suddenly vanishes. He’s a much more powerful foe so something fishy is going on. I’m assuming that he’s Phantom Ganon and the real Ganon as usual is the puppeteer behind the rifts. Perhaps he’s trying to breakout from his seal in the Dark World, setting up the Imprisoning War and ALttP.

I've always liked the fan theory that the Hero of Legend's wish not only restores Hyrule in A Link to the Past, but also creates the Hero of Time to save the past, rather than the downfall timeline existing because of the defeat of the hero. It would be neat if this game has some kind of Easter egg to hint to this.

    • @josephasbury4492
      @josephasbury4492 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Kind of like a branching closed loop. The original defeat happened first, but ALTTP's wish causes all of the evil that befell Hyrules people to be erased upon activation. It wasn't the people of Hyrule's fault that they survived the line of events up until that point, so the Gods can't justify erasing them with a wish of good will. At the same time, the wish does work retroactively; thus OoT Link is sealed away instead of being allowed to age naturally for seven years and is made to follow the Sage's prophecy that has unclear origins.

I argue the opposite. I think this is the Dawn of the Downfall Timeline. Another direct Sequel to Ocarina of Time, but in the Downfall Timeline. *I think that Echoes of Wisdom is the Imprisoning War!*
My theory *that I based on someone else's from MANY YEARS AGO* At the end of this game, Zelda will send her memories back in time to the start of Ocarina, thus explaining why she doesn't trust Ganondorf.

With the resurgance of Hylia being a thing in this Hyrule. It would make more sense between TFH and Tragedy of Princess Zelda I + Zelda 1.
After all Hyrule entered a Golden Age or the Golden Era as HH called it. Hyrule would've most likely had a renaissance during this era and probably would've recovered knowledge of Hylia, same with ALttP/ALBW being expanded upon as the kingdom begins to grow again, which was halted for centuries due to the events between OoT and TFH. This would also explain the statue/trophy you find in Zelda II which now theorized to be a hylia statue by fans.
This could also work for a Post Zelda II scenario where Hyrule enters its Second Golden Age. Two Zelda are now in Hyrule, NES Link has become king and they have the full triforce to restore Hyrule to its glory days.

I think if it has a timeline placement at all it would be in downfall as that’s where the first Link game was set and it makes sense to call back to that for Zelda’s first game as well. Miyamoto certainly cared about the individual stories within each game, and he also did think that there were a few cases where some games should be thought of as related. However, at the end of the day, there was never a unified chronology the development team had in mind when designing each and every game, and they have stated multiple times in their interviews that the chronology is nothing more than an afterthought for them. It would be interesting to get more Zelda games that switch up what we are used to seeing. We could get a 2 player game where you play as both Zelda and Link. We could get a game where somehow the triforce get switched around and Ganon gets courage, link gets wisdom and Zelda gets power or some other way to mix that up, this could affect the story in multiple ways, these being Zelda being evil with the triforce of power and the roles have all just swapped or ganondorf still being evil but using courage instead of power to do it. We could get a game where Zelda’s royal bloodline has been banished from the castle somehow and we have a Zelda who is merely a peasant girl, maybe not even named Zelda since she isn’t in the royal castle with their traditions anymore. Perhaps a royal family who fails to give birth to a girl and instead births the hero. A game where the gerudos have given birth to 2 boys instead of just one. Maybe only one can be ganon or maybe they are both evil lol idk.

      @isaiahreed6924 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@evanmisejka4062 I mean a link to the past when it released was a prequel to zelda 1, such as the backstory for ganon. I think ocarina of time is the source of most problems. The timeline is kinda made to reflect the development period. In the downfall timeline, 4 of those games were released before ocarina of time and were directly related to each other. Ocarina of time's ending is incongruent with a link to the past's recollection of the sealing war, even though the developers stated that ocarina of time "deals with the imprisoning war from the super famicoms A link to the past". As for 4 swords, gba, in general, when the game was released, it was to be the first and Minish cap was a prequel to that game with the gamecube one being a sequel that takes place "sometime after that." Than skyward sword came out and became the new origin story. It probably just means that minish cap and 4 swords are after skyward sword but before ocarina of time, and the lack of references realistically can be explained by the fact that nintendo makes gameplay first story second but also that games could take place between skyward sword and the 4 swords games and ocarina of time.

The downfall timeline games are the most similar as most are just related to a link to the past.

I'm thinking this is definitely plausible, but I don't think Nintendo would spell that out for us. I'm more thinking that we'll stop whatever crisis is occuring, but after having learned about the nature of that crisis are able to deduct that its in fact possible. For example, perhaps Ganondorf in another timeline places a wish that causes him to tap steal Demonic power from their timeline, or perhaps the wish will be for a Hero to appear and thus this Link is yanked to their timeline because he's already fulfilled his duty in this one. Nintendo rarely shows us the most tragic events happening directly (The Great Flood, the original Imprisoning War, TP's back story, suppression of the Gerudo, ect) but instead leaves it to our imagination. Breadcrumbs over giving you the whole cake upfront, so to speak.

I personally believe that BotW and TotK are placed at the extreme end of the timeline, recombining the split timeline into a single path. As such, to me, Echoes of Wisdom feels like it's the first game to solidly occur after the events of TotK, catapulting us into a new timeline cycle. Thus why it's _"echoes"_ and not something more conceptually concrete. The "echoes" of the previous timeline have ended, and it is only the wisdom gained from surviving beyond the chronologic restart that allows Hyrule to thrive once again.

Its kinda crazy when you think about it, I remember some DT haters saying that Zelda being in a crystal was plothole for the Downfall timeline to happen. Then this new Zelda game shows Link managing to break Zelda out a crystal via a bow and arrow. Said crystal was made by a Ganon who is stronger than his OoT self. You can pretty much headcanon that OoT Link managed to break her out with the same method via Light arrows or any arrow for that matter.
I had actually planned for scenario like that to play out for OoT Link and OoT Zelda in my Imprisoning War novel via a backstory/memory. Its kinda crazy to see Nintendo actually do something that can be argued for another section of Zelda lore. Since we dont know if Link actually died when he lost, its plausible outcome.

I think exactly the same: This game takes place between Tri Force Heroes and The Legend of Zelda. It's a new Link (despite looking and having the same voice as Link's Awakening Link), a new Zelda and a new Ganon. The adventure of this Link was already about to end when Ganon played his wild card, which started a whole new adventure for Zelda. Since she's not a fighter (and has never been in any canon title), she'll use the powers of Tri to forge her path and save Link. Also, I feel like Ganon faked his death, since Link did not use any of the three weapons that are known to be able to damage him: The Master Sword, silver arrows or light arrows.

That said, the multiplayer Zelda games are also very sketchy on the canonicity of them. FS has virtually no story but its still listed as a canon game. FSA is clearly internally a direct sequel to FS despite where it was placed on the timeline, and it bridges the gap between FS and LTTP. Tri-Force Heroes barely has any story, and them dropping it after LBW because it uses the LBW engine is incredibly lame and stupid.

I think I had more fun with the side content ratherthanthe main story. My enjoyment for the main story was putting together new teams. There was just no DESTINY aspect to the game. The primal rune lenses are just pure power, no sentience, or at least they didn't show it. My main character was bland, not enough drama or hardship, no destined hero that gets a super amazing rune. Nowa and Seign are NOT Riou and Jowy, not even a lil bit.
I don't like how Eiyuuden constantly reuses things from suikoden. Elves to the rescue, fight the vampire, beat by beat they copied suikoden 1 and 2. Also, the war battles, what happened to rock, paper, scissor combat?
All my issues, i love the game, and it's a great entry in suikoden franchise.

I'm pretty sure TotK blew timeline placements wide open for future games as I believe that Zelda travelling back in time to the era of the Zonai created a whole new timeline (in which Botw and TotK take place), just as Link's time travel in OoT created the previous three timelines.
In this new timeline I believe that significant events similar (but not identical) to the three other timelines all took place in a single timeline, resulting in the similarities and references to all three timelines that we see in BotW and TotK.
What this means for new games is that just because they share similarities to other games does not mean they occur in the same timeline... they could easily take place around a similar point in the fourth timeline.
This essentially allows Nintendo to easily slot new games into the timeline wherever they want without having to worry about established canon, and I think that's what they've done with EoW, with the Sheikah lamp and hat supporting their placment in the fourth timeline.
Beyond that, it does seem likely that EoW would take place in this fourth timeline's equivalent of the Golden Era for most of the same reasons as explained in the video (although a fourth timeline placement would make some of the points less relevant).

FS allegedly placed before OOT when it was first released, but nothing in FS placed any sort of timeline period on it. Frankly, lore-wise it makes perfect sense that it could be placed anywhere in the timeline. As long as its right before FSA. I can agree with this being after ALBW and Triforce Heroes for all the reasons you mentioned. Hyrule seems to be advancing. Kakariko village has grown, and the castle now has a castle town.
But there are several things that, if this is to take place later in the timeline, that the downfall timeline (or the majority of it) will be reframed as a prequel and precursor to Ocarina of Time.
This game sees the Gerudo arriving in Hyrule, and the sea Zora immigrating from other lands to live alongside their river brethren. And if these two groups of Zora were to begin procreating with each other, then it makes perfect sense why we see Sea Zora living at the base of a river in Ocarina of Time. And the guards of Hyrule and Zelda herself also appear more similar to how they do in Ocarina. And of course, an early Castle Town establishment and growing Kakariko could easily grow to what they are in Ocarina.
And the maps... Are pretty similar, too. This game seem to be taking the ALTTP and ALBW map and expanding it. We know this because Death Mountain is there, but it wasn't in either of those other games. And from the look of it, it seems like it lies beyond the borders of the maps of those other games. And the Great Deku tree also appears for the first time in the downfall timeline, and he looks almost exactly like his Ocarina of Time counterpart. The placement of the Lost Woods in both ALTTP/ALBW and Ocarina of Time may seem like it wouldn't work with Echoes of Wisdom, but in Ocarina of Time, the Kokiri Forest seems to spread on for a long ways, possibly to the point of nearing Kakariko Village and Death Mountain. So assuming (based on very little) that the Lost Woods/Korkiri Forest is also going to be greatly expanded in this game, then if we just take the map for ALTTP/ALBW, extend the borders a bit to account for Death Mountain and the rest of the Lost Woods, and them mirror that map and rotate it evver so slightly, and it lines up pretty well with Ocarina of Time.
We can't know for sure until the game comes out, but I actually kinda like the idea of some of the downfall timeline games coming BEFORE Ocarina of Time.

Considering OoT is still intended to be origin of Ganon from ALttP and ALttP itself was the origins of Ganon in Zelda 1, this already doesnt seem to be the case.
There's already blaring problems with any DT game becoming Pre-OoT and that mainly has to do with the triforce. The triforce remains untouched after the events of the Interloper War. OoT Rauru built the Temple of Time with the Master Sword being the that leads to the Sacred Realm and the Triforce. This all happened before Hyrule Kingdom's establishment and its earliest conflict, The War of the Bound chest mentioned in Minish Cap. The Triforce wouldn't be touched again until the events of OoT and thats only thanks to OoT Link in terms of the DT and AT. Its pretty clear the DT games are closely connected aside from the fact they all feature the same Ganon.
Between TFH and TToPZI + Zelda 1 makes sense because it would at least take place during Hyrule's Golden Age/Era where Hyrule would've grown due continuous prosperous use of the Triforce prior to the events of TToPZI. After all Hyrule in the DT hasnt had a Hyrule since events of OoT (or maybe even the Imprisoning War). Even Post Zelda II would work due Hyrule entering a second golden age with two Zeldas, a full triforce and NES Link becoming the next king of hyrule.

That said even though I agree people take it too seriously I still love the timeline. In a loose sort of way, while acknowledging that every new game will retcon it again.

There is no lore anymore and if you try to make a lore theory it’s as good as fan fiction

It could be that this game is a combination of the three timelines.

Look it’s cool that games like OOT/MM are connected to twilight Princess but we’ve reached a point where the timeline is such a mess they we need to let it die and just accept the every new hero from this time forward is its own legend.

Imma be real the zelda timeline isn't a mess kingdom hearts has a confusing timeline. Most comic books have a confusing timeline. Most zelda games are direct sequels that are grouped together

Guys. There is no timeline. Give up already. It’s been clear for YEARS. I just ascribe to the idea that the stories are legends we’re being told. And like real legends, information isn’t always accurate.

another game where i can give the controller to a monkey and it will solve every dungeon by spamming beds and chairs. Thats true creativity, right? Its fun?
I always wanted the last bastion of intricate puzzle boxes to fall. 2D Zelda games were always boring you know, nobody likes them and they need to change completely
also who needs great sprite art when you can make your epic adventure game look like plastic toys?

I don't think the Zelda team cares about the Zelda timeline they just care about making a good game
