For all of you who are clueless how it works, when a certain amount of coins is put in, a light signal is sent to the machine to trigger a play. The iPhone photo with flash flash duration is the perfect duration, so it works. I am not sure if it works on other devices, but if you could turn your flashlight on for a specific amount of time it will work.

I can back this up, I own claw machines like the one in the video. Taking a picture of the timer will give you another play. My guess would be that it's the machine that switches the plays around is set on a numerical light system, so theoretically it should change the number. Fo a simpler version taking a picture with the flash on will make the mechanics tick, as the machine runs off of a number of coins put into the machine. After how much money is in the machine it flashes a light that triggers the machine to give a play, which the said machine is connected to the timer, so taking a picture with your flash on will make the machine react.

The coin mech is a normally open circuit and mechanically switched by the coin (or some jumper wires that he clipped on, and is activating behind the scenes. He can’t do it at a store, because he can’t open those games to alter the switches. Smoke and mirrors people. Flashing a light, at a screen doesn’t do anything. But I own a claw machine and control it by a arduino so it’s extremely possible he has connected some switch or relay that can be remotely activated. Or the easiest way is just connecting two wires to the ones that activate the game relay and quickly touch/bridge them together. Think about it. Videos of this would be all over if it were real.
