Orlando had no equal that year...hell he had no peer. It is interesting to listen to the records of the wrestlers. Back when 100 wins was a HUGE deal. You would have to make it to states for 4 years to get that in NJ back then.
When they met during the regular season in the BIG showdown at Gloucester County College between Pemberton and Paulsboro Duca gave Orlando all he could handle as he lost a close decision and nearly put him on his back in the closing seconds...the packed-to-the-rafters gym was rockin'!
@@mike5556 --Are you sure it was 6-2 I could have sworn 4-2? I remember the end of the match where Sanders scored a takedown and Careras knew they were out of time so he laid there the last few seconds.
@@JamesJ30t I think you mght be thinking of the dual meet that year, Mark was leading 6-4 and it tied the match. (back when you could tie!!) His region victory was a little more decisive I was Mark's teammate on the Lenape squad. Happy to speak to another "old timer" from those days Cheers, James!
@@mike5556 - Cheers for you too. Yeah back in the early 1980s was a classic time for wrestling. Sanders was the top dog for the Region 7 back then. The Sanders/Caceras rivalry was well known.
These videos are great to see. I was at these finals as a 14 year old and just in awe of them. Thanks for sharing.

And very few New Jersey wrestlers competed as freshmen.
PACKED EEEEM
thank you for this!
Sure thing. It was some match between two great State Champions.
This is like the holy grail for caceras fans

Classic wrestling days. R.I.P. to Coach Milt Schisler...
And Caceras won the MVP of the states that year
While Orlando is tough and all that stuff with the situation grave, wait until you get a load of his brother Dave.
@dr troy turner --- His brother David was very good but he lost to Mark Sanders (Lenape) 4 - 2 in the regional finals.

That wasn't even a move, he just threw Duka on the mat and stepped over.
@Lawson Ransom --- Looks like Orlando used a Whizzer into a throw. th-cam.com/video/zs-2gQYqgHI/w-d-xo.html
@@JamesJ30t it certainly started as a whizzer. I've never seen anyone do that however.
@@lawsonransom8318yeah, you're right, he just threw him on the mat with a whizzer and just stepped over.
