Fishing invasive brook trout in Sweden.

    I know i'm not supposed to love the Swedish brook trouts, but I do. My first fish on a dry fly was a brook trout and I have decided that my son has to walk in my footsteps. It's not that easy to find lakes with brook trout in Sweden, they are not everywhere, but when they take over a place, you usually find thousands of brook trout. I tried to find one of those lakes and got some help from my Hillbilly friend, Jacksson.
    I recently read that Sweden now are trying to get rid of what we in Sweden call "Amerikansk Bäckröding" ( American Brook Char), it's good idea, but probably impossible.
    This is Kokkaffe Diaries episode 7 of 8000.

      90 percent of fly fishing is not fishing?
      I kind of thought this was a fishing video, but it's really just random scenes with a little bit of fishing sprinkled in.

      @DeeJamz your essence of fly fishing is not fishing. The essence of fly fishing to me is... you know... fly fishing.
      Perspective, maybe stop and realize people have different ideas and not everyone has to bow down to your ideals?

    • @DeeJamz
      @DeeJamz ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikewhitman745 I think you misunderstand how fly fishing even came about and under what conditions. This is not bass or trout thumping in an over stocked dam. This is the journey of the pursuit of trout in their natural habitat, generally off the beaten path a bit without speedboats and jet skis cruising by. It's not a competition.
      FYI no bowing down necessary.

    Inetresting video. Where I live in Canada Brook Trout are the native fish and coveted. They are the first to be overrun by rainbows, browns, bass and pike. They also need clean cold water so they are they fall victim to the effects of unbanization, farming, climate change and invasive species. Northern Ontario is still very wild and vast - one of the last places you can catch your arm off for these fish in their native environment - Northern Quebec and Labrador also have lots of Brookies left. Starting to share fly fishing with my 3 year old daughter - my dad passed it along to me and I hope she gets to share in the joy it has brought my dad and I.

    i love how these videos are so quiet with heavy focus on the videography with the quiet ambient music layered in. theres a ton of fishing content out there and not many of them go for this angle that puts all the focus on the environment and the fish.

    Hi from Northwestern Ontario, Canada. We can agree that they are beautiful fish, found in the cleanest and coldest waters of our rivers, streams, beaver ponds and, as "coasters", in Lake Superior. Perhaps they are eager to bite but they are a delight to catch.

    where i’m from in north Georgia brookies are native and extremely hard to find. you only find them in certain small streams high in the mountains above waterfalls that make it impossible for the invasive rainbows and browns to get up. beautiful video Rolf that ending was touching!

    Great video, Rolf! See we are not all ugly Americans! Hillbilly is right, the brookie is the most beautiful trout. We took your brown trout, I had no idea you have our brook trout. They are our most cherished and only native trout in WI. I taught my son and daughter to fly fish on brook trout - I recognized the look on your son's face - priceless! Now in their 20s, my daughter has almost become a brook trout snob, she will fish for no other trout (almost) and only with a caddis imitation. There are some brook trout ponds near our cabin and there has been many a time, after I have gotten my ass kicked all day steelhead fishing on Lake Superior tribs that I have hiked in, during the fading autumn sunlight, and caught a few brookies and marveling at their multicolored spots and flaming orange bellies. They calm my jangled nerves, repair my bruised ego, and are good for my soul. There is no trout more generous than the brook trout!

    I grew up fishing for Brook trout, in Colorado. They do tend to out compete native trout, but they are very willing and a great way to get youngsters into fishing. If they aren't catching, they lose interest rather quickly. Your son's reaction was terrific. Looks like the whole family had a good day.
