I don’t understand why people think a book that isn’t in the high 9’s is worthless. That’s a fucking collector’s item, man! It’s a first appearance! And now, guess what? It’s in someone’s price range who wants it but can’t afford a 9.8. Everyone chill the hell out. These are works of ART, and fretting over 9.8s is no way to live your life.
Hi ComicsRelapse9, first off thanks for taking the time to watch my video and leaving a comment. Your point is noted and I appreciated all thought on this even if they are different from my own. There may be people that believe that "a book that isn’t in the high 9’s is worthless". This is not me. If you see my other videos, I collect high grade as well as low grade slabs and the WWBN32 and ASM194 proves this as both were not expected to be in the 9's and I'm ecstatic about the grades. I even made a whole videos on the value of low vs high grades, you should check it out... I agree that lower grades put these books at a lower value, which then in the market of some people. If they were in that grade range before I submitted them then you would get no argument from me. Unfortunately they were really high grades to start and having them damage in transit robs me of their potential value if I was to sell them or not. They are a work of art and that's what makes them valuable to all of us. I hate to put these works of art thru unnecessary damage to which they do not deserve. Getting grades lower than I expect is part of the game and that's a big reason I don't like to check grades before I get the books. I've gotten those and I don't get upset over that. I take the good with the bad. I only expect a grade for my collection in the shape I sent them in, but to get them back damaged is something else and something I don't wish on any collector. I also don't blame CGC as they were only doing their job. Thanks again for your time, cheers.
It is the fact that grade equals Value.....and Now the comics are worth less than what he paid to have them graded.....So it is a big deal if your comics come back lower than expected
I understand that they didn't give notes before and charged you if you wanted notes on books you didn't submit. Last couple of years, they started making the graders notes available at least to the member who submitted them. I believe this is a flaw with CGC and PGX. Graders notes should not be some great secret. CBCS has always made notes available to everyone on any book. I give them top points for that. If they would get their turn around time in order, I would be there in a heart beat!
Appreciate the info. Nice to have it available via email from PGX but I'm a believer that all grading companies should include it with every book, all the time. It should also be available in a database without charge like CBCS. Just enter the slab number regardless if your the one who submitted the book or bought it from someone else.
I think they reason they don't is because then they are assuming liability and they would be responsible for paying the value of the book. So not taking responsibility takes that away from them. Sadly, companies are all about the bottom line. So even if they 100% damaged the comic, they will never admit it.
That sucks that someone damaged your books. It’s like all grading companies force you to add pressing to your order so that way you won’t have to re-submit them again
This was tough. I wanted to scream out cause I knew these books were better than the grades they got. Life is hard sometimes... Make sure to watch the follow up videos to this saga and thanks for watching.
I don’t blame cgc unless they’re the ones who actually damaged it. Who knows with them. They have a total lack of transparency with the public. The staff aren’t even allowed to talk about certain things or answer certain questions Extremely shady.
I cannot place blame on anyone since I cannot prove who damaged my books. I take responsibility when I decided freely to ship my books in the first place. My view is grade my books fairly with consistent standards and be accountable for those standards by having graders notes as standard on all labels. Let's all put pressure on all grading companies about this so we can put the dishonest grading to bed.
Comic Sniper I agree but I heard their “grading notes” are very lacking and only provide minimal details. I just think CGC is the top dog and because of this they are taking advantage. I think we in the comic community need to come together and boycott them going forward reverting to cgcs. They are just as reliable and extremely transparent with their customers not to mention their better fees. We are feeding the monster “CGC” and the more we continue to do so the more corrupt they’ll become. And that’s how it goes with all corporations that are on top. Corruption is practically guaranteed if a corporation is the number one go to for any given product or service.
Dan, you have several points here on the go that are important to answer individually. 1. You are correct and I have personal experience with the "lacking" from CGC and the others for their graders notes. This is why it's my mission to have all of them be accountable by printing graders notes on labels, NO EXTRA CHARGE! 2. CGC is the current top dog bacause they were first and because of a stupid thing called "brand loyalty". They have no loyalty to you, why are anyone loyal to a brand? 3. Boycott should be done on an individual basis and not as a collective unless it can be proven that the company has done something corrupt, illegal, or immoral. To my knowledge CGC has done none of these. Personal likes or dislike is no basis for a boycott, rather make them earn your dollar. 4. CBCS and PGX and their customers are partly to blame for the lack of price equality for the same product. These companies constantly compare themselves with CGC making CGC the benchmark. Sellers ask for less from buyers and will settle for less when bargaining. This is a self fulfilling prophecy and keeps CGC prices higher. 5. Companies can only be corrupt if they have a monopoly. Top companies who sit on their laurels will be taken down by free enterprise. Example: The so called "Big Three" car manufacturers, Blackberry, Nokia, etc. Staying on topic, we need CGC. We also need the others to step up their game and push CGC to do better. This helps everyone get more for their money and fuel innovation. The only way this will happen is thru us. We can put our money to the company doing the best job (at the time) and moving that around to the others when they do a better job. Getting rid of companies will only cause the opposite of what we want. Less competition = bad news for all of us. Great points for discussion, thanks.
I do have to say.....I enjoyed your video.....each reveal was better than the next....... because we have all been there expecting a higher grade only to be knocked down..... but I think I got one up on you though..... I did a video on a bad Reholder Experience. where the already Graded books came back a lower grade. It will make you feel better about this.....lol
ed13adema Watched the video. Really glad it worked out at the end and good on you to stay positive and use it as a teaching tool. We need more of this watching out for our community.
big daddy coool That's the kind of great attitude we should all have and what I try and teach my kids. Down but never out! Thanks for that. I will be doing some follow up to this video. It's not over yet, so stay tuned.
When you pack your books to ship to CGC, do you leave lots of room, lots of overhang with the cardboard you sandwich the books between? Make sure that the cardboard you sandwich the books between is, like, and extra inch wider than the book all the way around. And then tape the books snugly to the cardboard so the don't slip around.
Hi Ion-SHIVs, These are excellent tips. I do my best to pack so that they are not easily damaged. It's not my first rodeo. I guess I need to rethink my packing as the mail system found a way thru my defense. Appreciate the feedback, thanks.
That's a good point. You have to trust that they do the right thing. I have never heard of anyone actually claim their book was switched. There has been damage, like mine but that's it. It's also best to note any defects on the book and take detailed pictures if possible.
This is one way to look at it. Many people share this opinion. For myself regardless of my feelings, I believe the people will judge them as success or failure by the use of their wallet. If this is useless and there is no demand, all slabbing companies will die from lack of profit. If the people want this and are willing to pay for it, the company will stray alive because it is only doing what it does to uphold what the market wants. If you look at it this way, the power lies with you and me, not with CGC.Love your feedback, thanks.
CGC is not accountable and they don't care about their customers. They told me so. I suggest CBCS as they don't take their customers for granted and they back up their grades with grader's notes.
Hi luciobarbarino, That is the problem with this process. There is no way to prove that CGC damaged my books vs the post office. Check out my follow up videos to this story.
Sean Ashby Appreciate the sentiments. It's the chance we take whenever our precious comics leave our hands. Using as a learning of what not to do... Check out my other videos of what happens next on this saga... Cheers.
Arch Angel It's a great feeling to start and just like Christmas, sometimes what you get when you open the box is does not stand up to the expectation...
Awwww man I felt your pain and I would have started feeling really bad just showing them quick. It sucks the post office does not care about what you are delivering. CGC needs to get their act together and leave some notes on why they gave such low grades.
Comics Addiction my thoughts exactly in the grader's notes. As far as the post office, it sucks that we should always expect the worst from them as a normal part of shipping, then count ourselves lucky when it doesn't get damaged.
Tough day buddy, I’m looking for grading company advice, I can only imagine what you’d like to be saying... Congrats on the werewolf 6.0 & the ASM 7.5, finishing on a positive:) Silver
Silver-Aged Dave appreciate the sympathy. In the end it wasn’t CGC’s fault but our great postal service! Advice on what about grading company? Always tried to look on the bright side.
Hi Thimothe Canadian Comic Hunter thanks for stopping by. I guess 2 out of 8 ain't bad... I pressed them before submitting and will need to do it again.
I like the mystery of raw books cgc just seems to final to me the way they display is cool that sux ur disappointed does seem a lil harsh they look minty fresh to me
The sad thing about that discovered damage is you will never know if it was the post office or CGC that damaged them. But like you said you can at least press them out because the good part is at least they did not break color....
It's true but I'm giving CGC the benefit of the doubt. I'm like you, trying to find the silver lining. I'll most likely crack open to press the 6 books and resubmit them along with other books.
Hi pursuedsubset 59 I'm guessing you didn't watch the entire video as I found and explained why the books got such low grades. I've also followed up this video to get to the bottom of things. I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment, thanks.
Tomb of Comics It's imposible to prove weather it's damaged during shipping or mishandled by the grading company. Either way, it's the chance we take when our precious comic books leave our hands. I'm advocating for all grading companies to have detailed grading notes on every comic submitted and printed on the back label. This way, there's no guessing as to how they arrived at the grade given. You in?
I am guessing skipped the press. then they all would have been a point higher. clean the surface for fingerprints as well, they take points away for the slightest fingerprint.
sorry your books were damaged, definitely looks like your books got dropped in the corner. I'll share my grading woes with you: submitted my CGC yellow label hulk 181, was graded 4.5 but had lots of finger dents and a dirty back cover, figured it would at least, AT LEAST get a 5.0, with a good clean and press. had to send it to CCS for the press in order to maintain the yellow label. came back at....4.5. i'm happy it did not come back lower, but still....my guess is they overgraded it the first time. oh well, it's still a hulk 181 (and i still have a cbcs 7.0 copy as well :) the WWBN and ASM 194 are sweet though... silver lining
Hi Rogue 121, Thanks for sharing. Congrats on having 181 in that grade let alone another in a 7.0. Lucky guy. Silver linings is exactly how I'm looking at it.
Its been widely known on the forums that CGC unfortunately currently has a stick up their asses when it comes grading moderns. They were receiving a lot of online criticism that they were too forgiving especially when it came to on-site grading so now they rarely hand out 9.8s at their HQ and are much more harsh in general. I also had a pair of ASM 361s that were pristine that i got pressed on top of it and they came back 9.6s without grader notes.
Hey Darren, I have a feeling you may be right. I've seen lots of newer un-boxing get screwed lately. I guess I would't mind so much if I got a half or full grade lower. I just wanna know what exactly they found so I can decide if I wanna fix it or not. Still love collecting 361's.
I have a 1.5 without graders notes - when asked about it they basically said Grader's Notes aren't part of their guaranteed service. Grader's notes are for communication between the 2-3 grader's that look at the book. It's basically just a luxury that they often include them for us to see - during the busy con season graders often opt to not take the time to enter them. I obviously disagree with it, but from their words they're not a part of the service you're purchasing - just a bonus.
Hey Drahcir's Comics and Things, thanks for sharing that. That would make sense how they can be such lazy ass about it. Since they are grading our books and it must be entered into the system because we can request it for a fee, then just allow us to see it. Just my take. I hope you got justification on your 1.5
Hey Ion-SHIVs, I agree. If they have the graders notes already, making them available to us should not be a big deal. I don't know any collector that wouldn't like this.
I believe they're just not making notes on a lot of books anymore. Because of the volume of books they're now grading, they are cutting corners and do not have time to write up and input grader's notes. They won't release the numbers on how many books they grade in a day, or how many graders they actually employ.
Ion-SHIVs I think your right but if I bought a CGC book from you that was graded recently and I wanted to know the graders note, I would have to pay $5.00 to CGC right? Doesn't that mean the graders notes have already been entered? Why not make that available to the original submitter? Something to think about...
Yeah, but that's the thing. There are no grader's notes available on your books for anyone else to buy. I just checked your ASM 194 and 265. "Grader Notes: None available" on both.
Your right. I hadn't checked that yet. Man they are really slacking! I wish CBCS would get their act together and get their turn around time in order. I love that they have always provided detailed notes. I also don't wanna have to pay extra just to get the same time frame as CGC now. Their move to Dallas is not gonna help anytime soon. Oh well, I guess I'm stuck for now...
What was wrong with those 361's just some tiny color breaking spine ticks? The color break was only on the wrap around the spine they didn't even go length wise into the front cover. Makes me worried because I was going to send in two carnages that looked really nice.
Ben JacksonI followed this video up with 3 more that you might get a kick on. Answers your question and what happens next. Appreciate you watching, thanks.
@@comic-sniper did you sell or are you holding onto the moon knight? You seem to pick out nice mid grade books. If you were interested im sure we could make a deal.
I still have the Werewolf by Night 32. If your interested in any of my books, email me directly at ibrcn@hotmail.com or check out the books on instagram page and message me there as well. instagram.com/myxtyplyx/
Let's all say it together: A nice cover does not make for a high grade... they look at the inside of the book too. If you're only looking at the front and back covers, and the spine, then you're missing out on the complete picture. Please don't tell me you purchase books without opening them, too...
Usersname1983 Very insightful and true. I will always recommend grading based on the entire book. Your assumption seems confusing if you watched the entire video since I explained how the grades came to be late in the video. I would also recommend watching my follow up to this video and you will know first hand how I inspect my books. Great to hear your comment and hope you follow up.
My assumption was based on your repeated examinations of the slabbed books, which obviously only shows the exterior of the book, and the lack of discussion about what CGC might have found on the interior. It was reasonable to assume that that is how you came to your conclusions regarding the grades. I honestly stopped just before you revealed your discovery. 20 minutes of disappointment was more than I could stomach... couldn't sit through all 43 minutes. Sorry the post office damaged your books, that's a major bummer.
See now we're getting somewhere. Since you missed the later part of the video, you didn't see why the grades came out that way. Not really sure how I could have examined the inside pages since it's encapsulated. This is a blind unboxing and I'm sorry but I was pretty gutted as I revealed each one. Believe me I would have rather made a much cheerier video but I can't control the grades that showed up nor the condition they arrive after they leave my hands. I hope to make happier unboxing in the future... Still glad to hear your point of view. Thanks for the follow up.
Yeah I'm not big on assumption since I've seen first hand how that can get out of hand fast when it comes to messages. all to easy to read things in wrong context. I can't speak for others and I know some people don't. For me, i inspect every page to determine the grade.
I was incredibly disappointed with my foray into CGC earlier this year. I have the most beautiful 6.5 ASM 129 you would ever see. Never again with CGC.
Darren Wonders I love ASM 129. Took me forever to get one. What's wrong with the book? Maybe a press and clean will help give it a more deserving grade? I had a rough looking X-Men 94 that was around 5.5 but since the defects were all superficial, it got and 8.5 after a press and clean. That's a huge jump! Sometimes it works...
awww man...somebody at CGC really must not like you. My only guess it there has to be damage in the inside of the book, like the pages. its not always about the cover sometimes. Sorry for your loss...
The books were dropped hard either by CGC or shiiping. No one will admit to it and very hard to prove. I still think it's CGC as I pack my books like Fort Knox. My follow up videos show this and the results. CGC doesn't like their customers in general as they have told me in person to go elsewhere if I don't like their policy. Done. No more CGC for me. I suggest go with CBCS. They treat their customers better and they are accountable for their grades with detailed grader's notes.
I'm going to go out on a limb here a guess that the look on your face after the first 3 8.5's was like somebody just pooped in your mouth. I feel your pain, though. Did you press any of the books beforehand?
Captain Deadpool yes the first one like a pop in the mouth. The rest was like Iron Man must have felt when Thanos hit him with a moon! I did press the books before and now will have to press them again...
Wow, CGC was overly strict on those ASM 361 comics... Holy cr@p, how is that Avenging spiderman 9 an 8.5? I think the guy who graded your books was in a really bad mood that day, that really stinks man. At least with the most valuable book in the bunch you got a higher grade, that one makes the whole thing IMO.Good job on the ASM 194 as well. Sorry to hear about this being such a negative experience...
Hi Chris, It hit pretty hard at the time but I've since calmed down, lol. It's on of those days I've had nightmares about, doesn't feel real until I saw it all again the next day. :(
Sorry to see this video and it hurts to see such a good book being damage. What I do is I try to get the book Pressed and clean from CGC or to have it pressed by independent press her before sending it out
TheGamersGalaxy This is true. I'm always trying to improve but unless I have a say to what grade my books get, (I become a grader) It will always be "Best Guess". You should check out the follow up videos to this saga. Cheers.
1st... Always get your comics Pressed before submitting...... 2nd..... if you don't think you are going to get a 9.8 on a MODERN comic..... Don't send it in......It is a waste of money? ....Why.... Now Some of those books are worth less than what you paid to have them graded.
Hi ed13adema Pressing is a good idea since I press my own books so I know their exact condition before they go out. While I agree that getting 9.8 on modern will fetch you a higher return, it's not a good idea to blanket all moderns in the worthless category if they are not 9.8. There many factors that matter such as initial cost. Buying the ASM361 for cover price and getting a 9.2 still average over $100. Even factoring all cost is a good return on investment. Limiting yourself to guaranteed 9.8 is not ideal since no one can guarantee this grade on any book. There are multiple videos all over TH-cam to back this up. Always good to hear another point of view, thanks.
Everyone of my books gets inspected and if needed, I will press the books before sending. CGC will never be accountable to customers. They have told me in person. CGC is garbage and I'm done them. I suggest go with CBCS. They treat their customers better and they are accountable for their grades with detailed grader's notes.
I would go to a different company to have mine graded. cgc does not press or clean books and there is one company that will do that for you and correct these things before actually grading them . give one of them a try and forget cgc . maybe if more people do that they will smartin up and not treat everyone like they don't give a crap.
I don't discriminate against any company. I have used all three in the past. I press my own books and if you follow this story to the next few videos, you will see the final result. thanks
Ouch!!! I think I would pinch myself to death if I ever had this experience... my condolences .. so you don't go online and see the grade results? yea I like those new cardboard interior fillers too, I had a chance to reuse them once when I had to mail something else back out.. it worked out!!! ,, I need to make a video on how to pack bulk comic submission orders to CGC,, I have had numerous request.. it does take skill,, not easy sending 25++ to CGC and on avg getting 20/25 back 9.8s,,, more to follow for sure on that... you've been right on as far as grading on all your vids,, this is an anomaly for sure and I guess happens ,, look forward to your next CGC submission.. good luck!
Hey RAG718, at the time I was seeing the grades, it hit pretty hard. I'ts all I could do to finish the video. Yeah I don't like to peak at the grades on line. I like the suspense and surprise of seeing it in person. I know it's not the "in" thing. Most people go for instant gratification, but I'm old school that way. Definitely make the video on packing bulk. I can always learn from a fresh idea. This is not my first rodeo, but until something like this happens then a re-think is needed. this experience doesn't turn me off grading comics, just using it as a learning tool to pack my books better in the future. I consider myself lucky it wasn't AF15 (not that I have one, lol). That one I'll pack in a bomb proof case!
CGC was rough man. It’s almost like here’s more if these damn spec books and they let you have it. I would be mad on those ones you want to sell because those 361s sounded like you got those to sell.
Sup The Great Legend? I don't mind telling you, I shed a tear or two making that video. I think I also lost 1/4" of enamel from grinding my teeth! I was planning on selling the two 361 and the 9 to pay for the books and slabbing and the rest was mine to keep. Now I have to spend more time and money doing it all over again. Sucks!
Lets say A grad of 10 would get you $100.00 A grad of 9.5 would get you $90.00 A grad of 9 would get you $80.00 A grad of 8.5 would get you $70.00 A grad of 8 would get you $60.00 And anything under a grad of 8 may get you a lot less
Clayton Roberts not sure what your comments mean or maybe your asking a question? With regards to value of grades is not usually this clean. Sometimes the difference between a 9.8 and a 9.6 cuts the value in half. Not all the time but it does happen.
I haven't read all the comments so I might repeating here but my one suggestion if you didn't do it last time is use a box...I have seen too many people mailed their books using envelopes....even with cardboards inside, use a box always.
eta nick Always good advise and a welcome reminder for myself as well as others. I do use boxes with cardboard to ship my books but nobody is perfect. I will just have to do better next time. Live and learn...
Tell you what that definitely makes me not want to do it. Those were some damn great looking books but you were screwed. You have to look into what happened. Please let me know what happens.
Danny Holland Jr It's turning into a very captivating saga in my opinion... Check out the following videos for the update... Part 2- th-cam.com/video/HXwEiNT8pds/w-d-xo.html Part 3- th-cam.com/video/n9TNO56CVow/w-d-xo.html And the saga continues... Stay tuned.
Tbh I have been really lucky so far with CGC, sent in Flash 139 1st app of Reverse Flash, it was advertised on ebay as 5.5 and got a 6.0 when graded, sent in Amazing Spiderman 129 it was a crap copy and got a 2.0 though like a 0.5 lol. NEw Mutants 98 was pretty bad though got an 8.5, labelled as 9.2 or higher on ebay and tbh another 9.2 copy I had looked worse than it.
spitfiredubstep13 Really happy for you especially the ASM129. Hold on to that one for sure cause that's going up still and has way more room to grow. Just wail until the next Punisher Netflix comes out... Sometimes we get lucky and sometimes we get slammed like mine, lol. Thanks for sharing.
You are correct. It's very important to try and examine your books in an objective manner. Harder said than done most of the time. Check out what heppens to these comics in my follow up videos.
Ok of you pay a $1.00 for the comic and you pay $12.00 to get it graded You have $13.00 dollar's tied up in the comic. And if it comes back under a grad of 8 you may loose money on it
I’m cbcs from here on out when I buy. The grades I’ve been getting back are too high. They’re grading too many books with blindfolds. CBCS is by far the most accurate, just don’t sell as well.
I would totally do CBCS again. I have submitted books in the past but their turn around time sucks big time! The last time, I kid you not. Took almost a year! That's nuts. Till they get their act together, I'll pass for now.
Comic Sniper They are making the move to Dallas in June, so it'll be interesting to see how joining Beckett headquarters will affect CBCS overall. Hopefully it's positive.
Too bad on the books bud, feel the disappointment in your voice ... part of the reason I stick with raw books, don’t want the disappointment of sending in books for them to come back with low grades. Oh well I suppose, better luck next time ? Grats on the werewolf by night and 194 ... great books
Mister D the disappointment is real. I had to choke back my sadness and anger. I collect raw as well as slabs. Most of my books are not worth grading or I just want to keep raw. Others with values grater when slabbed if I’m selling now or might consider in the future.
Tyler Withers You are not wrong but I have seen many examples of worse books getting higher and better books getting bad grades. I just remind myself that we can never know exactly how they grade since each book is judged individually and of course very suggestive. This is why I'm an advocate of making all grading companies accountable for their decisions by giving us detailed graders notes on every submission. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Make sure you check out my follow up videos to this one...
Hey Barry W, you have good eyes... That's actually a manufacturer miswrap. I't different from spine roll that's caused by stacking books wrong over a long time. Miswrap since it's done at the manufacturer is not graded down much by the grading companies. Just like a miscut is not judged harshly, just not pretty to look at.
okay bro...im new to collecting comic...so when i see this video u were so lucky hahaha...i dont know about grading from cgc...btw thx for the reply :)
Stop just looking at the cover and the back. CGC looks at every page!! Color bleeds stuff you’re not even checking for my friend. They just don’t grade the cover and back cover. Every page gets graded!!!
Hey Brian Hood, thanks for the advise but that is hard to do when the comic book is encapsulated, lol. I might not show it here but I inspect each book meticulously (including every page) to help me decide which books I want to get graded. I will also press and clean any book that needs it before submitting. I don't believe every book should be graded, hence the inspection. This is why I'm such an advocate of detailed grader's notes so that I can compare my findings against the grading company. If I decide to crack these babies out, I will go thru a rigorous inspection all over again. (Hmmm... thanks for maybe giving me a good idea...)
this is the problem: people sent comics to CGC to inflate the price, people don't care the value of the comic art or even care in read it, you have a good comic and you almost cry on the video for a stupid number on the top? I don't know if you even read the thing, now you want sell it due you don't get your 9.4 or around, CGC steal your money, grade is so stupid. So I offer that in a sarcastic way, $10 bucks is a price in the streets, garage sales etc, the right price, not ebay, no cgc.
Boy, that's a lot of presuming your doing there, lol. Your right in that there must be people out there doing just what you say but I'd like to think they are a small minority. I try to be a glass half full and believe in the good of people first. I don't think we can fault them like, faulting the shop owner for selling all these books he's never read or the art dealer for marking up prices of his art work. My wife says I do cry a lot, like in Toy Story 3, when they were holding hands in the furnace... Still makes me tear up just thinking about it... :( Good luck hunting for those great stories and art.
ComicsRelapse9 If a book doesn't have any visible flaws, and it comes back very fine plus instead of near mint, I'd be pissed too.
Not sure who damaged them, CGC or USPS (hard to proove). It's a chance we take when our comics leave our hands...
It is the fact that grade equals Value.....and Now the comics are worth less than what he paid to have them graded.....So it is a big deal if your comics come back lower than expected
Just Pelé this is true about a tear but not in this case. If you watched the full video, mystery solved.
They must have ran out of 9.0+ stickers and just starting putting 8.5 on everything.
I never thought of that. You may be right, lol.
CGC charges $5 to see graders notes. They are the only one of the 3 companies that charges you extra for graders notes.
You can get graders notes from PGX for free as well. All you have to do is ask for them via email.
I wish they would actually give you the option to have it put on the back of the slab if requested... I would LOVE that....
That sucks that someone damaged your books. It’s like all grading companies force you to add pressing to your order so that way you won’t have to re-submit them again
Jorge Benites That's a different perspective. Bit of a conspiracy theory, but it's making me think... lol.
Honest Trailer version. Thank you for uploading an honest clip
Keep your head up, keep hunting and don't ever give up...it will get better. Great vid.
big daddy coool That's the kind of great attitude we should all have and what I try and teach my kids.
How do you know if these grading companies don't swap out the high quality books you send in for a lesser copy?
That's a good point. You have to trust that they do the right thing. I have never heard of anyone actually claim their book was switched. There has been damage, like mine but that's it.
It's also best to note any defects on the book and take detailed pictures if possible.
CGC is such a straight rip off. People need to move away from them and stop helping them rip off and ruin the comic community.
I felt your pain! That was brutal...
CGC is not accountable and they don't care about their customers. They told me so. I suggest CBCS as they don't take their customers for granted and they back up their grades with grader's notes.
Haha dude when lightning strikes this many times... unless they were damaged before/while they were at CGC
Hi luciobarbarino, That is the problem with this process. There is no way to prove that CGC damaged my books vs the post office. Check out my follow up videos to this story.
My last cgc haul came back lower than expected as well. I heard cgc is being unusually harsh lately.
Hi Comic Vantage, sorry to hear that. Most of my grading have been really close but yeah, I've heard that about CGC too.
thanks for posting - srry for the damage in transit = bummer
Sean Ashby Appreciate the sentiments. It's the chance we take whenever our precious comics leave our hands. Using as a learning of what not to do...
Check out my other videos of what happens next on this saga... Cheers.
Sup sniper. Nice iron man. That little thing is so cool. That was a bit of a rough unboxing. At least you WWBN came out higher than expected.
Sup TheBoyWhoHad7. Always trying and look on the bright side. The WWBN is the most valuable in this lot so it's good that it didn't get damaged.
Unlucky man we’ve all had those feelings of what the f**k were CGC on. Nice werewolf by night though, thanks for sharing.
Hi lee holmes, exactly right! I just held those words back... WWBN32 at least saved.
oh man i am with you it is like Christmas morning when you were a kid.
Arch Angel It's a great feeling to start and just like Christmas, sometimes what you get when you open the box is does not stand up to the expectation...
Tough grades. But nice on the 2 bigger keys at least. Good vid anyway, always love the unboxings.
DS Comics thanks for the kind words. I'm still hopeful I can turn it around. Just gonna cost me more time and $$$.
I'd love for you to work at CGC, there would be lots of 9.4, 9.6, 9.8 graded books out there
I would be all over that! 9.9 for the first 1000 submission. Sweet... lol
Tough day buddy, I’m looking for grading company advice, I can only imagine what you’d like to be saying...
Congrats on the werewolf 6.0 & the ASM 7.5, finishing on a positive:)
Silver
Silver-Aged Dave appreciate the sympathy. In the end it wasn’t CGC’s fault but our great postal service!
Advice on what about grading company?
Always tried to look on the bright side.
Oh man :( sorry dude. Finished strong at the end, at least, newsstands are hard books to get in high grades. Did you get the books pressed ?
Hi Thimothe Canadian Comic Hunter thanks for stopping by. I guess 2 out of 8 ain't bad... I pressed them before submitting and will need to do it again.
nope
I like the mystery of raw books cgc just seems to final to me the way they display is cool that sux ur disappointed does seem a lil harsh they look minty fresh to me
I collect mostly raw as well. The books did get damaged. Check out the follow up videos for these books. You might like the results...
Did the whole stack get bent in shipping or something? Gotta be a bend somewhere?
The sad thing about that discovered damage is you will never know if it was the post office or CGC that damaged them. But like you said you can at least press them out because the good part is at least they did not break color....
It's true but I'm giving CGC the benefit of the doubt. I'm like you, trying to find the silver lining. I'll most likely crack open to press the 6 books and resubmit them along with other books.
For the first spiderman 361 at 9:27 on the back there was a huge bend on the lower right maybe that lowered it.
Hi pursuedsubset 59 I'm guessing you didn't watch the entire video as I found and explained why the books got such low grades. I've also followed up this video to get to the bottom of things. I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment, thanks.
I have had similar disappointments. I often wonder if our books get damaged during shipping to CGC.
I couldn't stop laughing at this 😂
Luke McCann Happy to entertain.
I hope you got justification on your 1.5
And, yeah - CGC is getting really lazy about the grader's notes. They seriously need to hire more staff so that they have time to put notes in.
Is your MARK 3 IRONMAN figure really in space?
meaning it is not tethered to anything?
that is so cool!
Hi Frank Johnson, your eyes are not fooling you. My Mark 3 Iron Man is really flying. No stings attached.
HOW does he do that? is there an antigravity machine that they made that I am unaware of?
Using the new nano tech suit from Infinity Wars, lol.
And this is why I never go by what people grade on ebay
Not sure how that's relevant since this has nothing to do with people's grading on eBay.
No, you would have examined the interior of the book before the encapsulation. Sorry, I thought that was self-evident.
Yeah I'm not big on assumption since I've seen first hand how that can get out of hand fast when it comes to messages. all to easy to read things in wrong context.
I can't speak for others and I know some people don't. For me, i inspect every page to determine the grade.
bro i felt your pain with them 8.5 wow cgc can really kill my mood with there grades
Appreciate that. Check out the follow up videos for these books.
I felt all of that 8.5.... :(
I was incredibly disappointed with my foray into CGC earlier this year.
Comic Sniper. Right on. Do you press them your self?
Yes Captain Deadpool I press and clean when needed.
Wit comics always mark 'fragile' all over it. Also, if unsure then take photos or a vid b4 shipping to grade company.
Not a bad idea in principle but trying to make that case to CGC is about as useful as taking your cat for a walk on a leash.
Did you have them pressed?
Sorry to see this video and it hurts to see such a good book being damage. What I do is I try to get the book Pressed and clean from CGC or to have it pressed by independent press her before sending it out
SNMC Keep watching my other videos. Way ahead of ya, lol.
I do it myself so I know what got fixed and what didn't before CGC gets their hands on it.
Did you get them press?
I press my own comics. Check out the videos that follow this saga.
You need to improve your grading skills!
Did you press and clean ??
That one I'll pack in a bomb proof case!
well said my CGC brother,, good luck and I look forward to your next haul
Where did you find that floating Ironman?
MrRockfish01 My sidekick Mark 3 is cool, right? Found him in on a stop over in Taiwan airport coming home from vacation earlier this year.
Comic Sniper - I looked up that floating Ironman on eBay 😫 they want anywhere from 150 to 300 bucks for it 😫😫
MrRockfish01 Yeah they are not cheap but I love mine. Let me know if you get it.
Sucks!
Hopefully you have had better luck since!
Comic book Boys Thanks but this is not over yet You might wanna check out my follow up video to this. Te saga continues...
Lets say
A grad of 10 would get you $100.00
A grad of 9.5 would get you $90.00
A grad of 9 would get you $80.00
A grad of 8.5 would get you $70.00
A grad of 8 would get you $60.00
And anything under a grad of 8 may get you a lot less
Clayton Roberts not sure what your comments mean or maybe your asking a question? With regards to value of grades is not usually this clean. Sometimes the difference between a 9.8 and a 9.6 cuts the value in half. Not all the time but it does happen.
Comic Sniper that is what i was trying to. Say
The 361 have the cuts on bottom. look at Carnage’s knee. Likely has those cuts.
Hey Gills311, good eye my friend but would grade better than 8.5 if not for the corner crush.
Cgc seems like a racket to me! Someone having a shitty day or a super hard grader could cost a man a lot of ends? Guess that's the game tho!
Chris Ingram That's a polite way to say what a lot of other people have said too. Some not so nice... lol
the cover is screwed unless u press....so cheap to press.
bluhock88 You must have read my mind... You need to check out my follow up videos on this. I think you will enjoy them.
Tell you what that definitely makes me not want to do it. Those were some damn great looking books but you were screwed. You have to look into what happened. Please let me know what happens.
Danny Holland Jr It's turning into a very captivating saga in my opinion... Check out the following videos for the update...
Part 2- th-cam.com/video/HXwEiNT8pds/w-d-xo.html
Part 3- th-cam.com/video/n9TNO56CVow/w-d-xo.html
And the saga continues...
Spine ticks are nooo good! Even the smallest one will kill the grade
You are correct. It's very important to try and examine your books in an objective manner. Harder said than done most of the time. Check out what heppens to these comics in my follow up videos.
Do you like Comic Books?
Ok of you pay a $1.00 for the comic and you pay $12.00 to get it graded
You have $13.00 dollar's tied up in the comic.
Hey Despain's CovenantI didn't know that. Thanks for sharing. I hope they get their act together soon. I would like to use them soon.
Such a funny vid
Too bad on the books bud, feel the disappointment in your voice ... part of the reason I stick with raw books, don’t want the disappointment of sending in books for them to come back with low grades. Oh well I suppose, better luck next time ? Grats on the werewolf by night and 194 ... great books
Mister D the disappointment is real. I had to choke back my sadness and anger.
I collect raw as well as slabs. Most of my books are not worth grading or I just want to keep raw. Others with values grater when slabbed if I’m selling now or might consider in the future.
You got bodied
Can’t have three spine ticks and pull a 9.4 buddy
Tyler Withers You are not wrong but I have seen many examples of worse books getting higher and better books getting bad grades. I just remind myself that we can never know exactly how they grade since each book is judged individually and of course very suggestive. This is why I'm an advocate of making all grading companies accountable for their decisions by giving us detailed graders notes on every submission.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Make sure you check out my follow up videos to this one...
Well still great books. Sorry about the lower grades then expected.
Your right KatRen figures. Thanks for getting me.
your asm 265 looks like it has a pretty bad spineroll.
Hey Barry W, you have good eyes... That's actually a manufacturer miswrap. I't different from spine roll that's caused by stacking books wrong over a long time. Miswrap since it's done at the manufacturer is not graded down much by the grading companies. Just like a miscut is not judged harshly, just not pretty to look at.
wow tht is a lucky find for me hahaha....but for me i didnt care about grade as long as i hv one copy
stern jason That's all that matters, thanks for watching... Make sure you check out the follow up videos to this story...
okay bro...im new to collecting comic...so when i see this video u were so lucky hahaha...i dont know about grading from cgc...btw thx for the reply :)
I will take them if you don't want them papa
Robert Serna That would solve my problems... Stay tuned cause you never know. lol.
Sorry man that sucks.....
Hey Johnny williams Appreciate the sentiments. Thanks for stopping by.
Good thing you don't work for cgc lol. You'd be giving out 9.8s like candy. Bad luck bro. Check out my cgc haul vids.
Hey, OmegaXIIV, It is a good thing too or I might turn into the Grader Nazi. (remember Seinfeld) NO 9.8 FOR YOU!!! lol
Definitely some regarded there pal.
Hi The Collectors Vault, thanks for sharing my pain. Maybe I should do a un-slabbing/ comics submission video?

Lol i wish i could work for the grading book com
I'd grad all my comic books at a 9 to 10 lol when i. At work lol
Clayton Roberts We all would, that's why you and I don't work there, lol.
That asm is off centered
Tyler Withers Good eye my friend... :)
I can give your $10 bucks for, let me know.
John Smith I would never do something horrible to you, "Grade comics is a really stupid thing. I like read comics."
Remember?
this is the problem: people sent comics to CGC to inflate the price, people don't care the value of the comic art or even care in read it, you have a good comic and you almost cry on the video for a stupid number on the top?
Good luck hunting for those great stories and art.
Ya wanna sell ur 8.5s asm 361s
Joseph Royce Appreciate the offer but they got a grade bump to 9.4 after resubmitting. Check out the follow videos to this epic saga... Cheers.
