Technique could be improved more by NOT flicking the needle in an upward motion (and cutting a larger portion of skin, which will probably result in more scarring and longer healing time). Simply poking the area should cut down on unnecessary bloodletting and mess.

Please stop letting your assistant snap your client skin with the knife. It’s probably more painful for your client and totally unnecessary. It causes bleeding.
