    Making the picture bigger by attempting to enlarge it simply pixelates it, but raising the resolution makes it bigger and simultaneously reduces the pixelation. Simply genius.

    hey quick qustion my friend... I don't have a "bicubic automatic" option in the (image size)
    my options are:
    automatic
    - preserve details (enlargement)
    - preserve details 2.0
    - bicubic smoother (enlargement)
    - bicubic sharper (reduction)
    - bicubic (smooth gradients)
    - nearest neighbor (hard edges)
    - bilinear
    but no "Bicubic Automatic"... which one do I choose?

    you should do that in multiple layers and combine better parts of each layer to a composite. each layer having different stuff of course like denoise in one and smoothing in one etc. mostly keep areas around eyes, mouth etc but other larger skin areas with more prcessing such as denoise etc

I used to be able to upload to that stupid Shein site for points, until recently. My pictures are coming thru Google at size 483 x 644 59.4 kb. I also have Paintshop Pro. Any help please, obviously I don't know what I'm doing.

      yes this applies to any kind of digital images , a video is a composition of several image keyframes but to upscale images in a video , you will need video editing softwares like Premiere pro or After Effects its not the same method.

    what if u want the image size to remain exactly what is was before.

    • @Hdesigntutorialscom
      @Hdesigntutorialscom  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      images are clean when displayed in its real size , the problem is when you need to zoom in a little bit you start realizing that the image becomes pixelated, so the tutorial can help if you want to scale up for a larger print size or if you want to zoom in to a specific part of the image and show more details.

  • @Tryfieldanimas

    OK, this is a good way to do for posters but what if u want to make textures from old photos *what are in very bad quality . The problem is i need to use them as texture for some building in a game where i recreated some of those buildings. My major problem is the losing quality by using perspective correction and i cant enlarge them endless i need to keep it small but good looking o.c. And i don´t want this comic look what u achieve with some of this PS filters. So i hope there is still some way how to do?...
    thanks for help greeting .

    • @Hdesigntutorialscom
      @Hdesigntutorialscom  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      why don't you try illustrator ! try the tracing options to convert the textures to vector then from there you can tweak the vectorised textures until you get good high quality image ! you can also scan the old images using a high resolution scanner then apply some cleaning in photoshop !

    • @Tryfieldanimas

    If you, for example have a video made by a nokia 3310 (my childhood videos) can you depixelate that video too or does it only work for images?

    • @Hdesigntutorialscom
      @Hdesigntutorialscom  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can use Adobe After Effects to enhance your video by upscaling it to a bigger resolution then applying some blur , noise reduction and color correction , surely you will get a better result out of your old videos.

    Hey! When i change the resolution for 300, it also changes the height and width...however I want the picture to be 1080 pixels x 1350 pixels with 300 resolution...Is that possible? My picture needs to be 1080 x 1350 because its for instagram feed and the original photo (that was taken with a cannon camera) has a differente size. When i changed the original size to 1080 x 1350, it lost quality and if you zoom the picture you can see the pixels...What should I do?

    • @Hdesigntutorialscom
      @Hdesigntutorialscom  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello , what you are trying to achieve is way different than what is described in the tutorial , in this tutorial we are trying to prevent print mistakes often happening when the original image size or resolution is weaker than "what's needed" for the printed output measurements , so for example if the final print size is 1 meter H by 1 meter W and we have a photo that is only 800pX 800p when printed without upscaling or preparation you will get a pixelated or noisy output , especialy when you come closer to the printed material , also this tutorial comes in handy when you have a small resolution digital image and for a specific reason you "need" to zoom in at the eye of the person in the image (for example a poster hanged on a wall inside a 3d video game) so in this case "what is needed" is increasing the resolution "per unit" to see clearer details when zooming or when the hero comes closer to the wall, but in your case "what is needed" is decreasing the resolution of your DSLR camera image to adapt it for posting on social media, so zooming in is not really necessary in this case because the purpose behind sharing a photo on social media is not a proffesional purpose that needs a high quality image production and even if you need to share HQ productions most social media platforms won't allow it , you know they use codecs to compress images and videos to protect their bandwidth and facilitate the reach, so until now there is no way to get your 1080p x 1350p image which is a small resolution image zoomed on a big screen without seeing it pixelated and that's because simply it is a small image , but as an advice always use .png format to export your images, also always use Photoshop to decrease your huge DSLR photos because using mobile apps may decrease the quality, also there are options in Photoshop like resampling for smaller resolutions that can help you getting the best output quality but always use PNG.

      if the print size is big and your printed product will be placed at a far distance from the viewers then you don't have to worry if its a little bir blury , you will have to worry if it's pixelated visit this page to know every thing you need before print : www.hdesigntutorials.com/prepare-graphics-and-images-for-huge-billboard-print-sizes.html

    Can i bring it back to original size and keep it's smooth

    • @Hdesigntutorialscom
      @Hdesigntutorialscom  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it depends on what reason you want to use your photo , in this tutorial we've been trying to enlarge a photo and make its aperture clean and usable for big prints so when printed on an x banner for example it will look smooth when someone comes closer to your print, but since you want to use your photo for small displays you wont be worried , you just need to know the exact production size you want , if you will need to enlarge it you should go through the procces described in the tutorial but if you need to downscale it you just reduce the size with no problem.

    Are some images just too far gone? Does that go without saying? I have a 800 x 600 image. I cleaned it up somewhat in Camera Raw and then I found this video. Camera Raw did work some magic, but I thought this video was going to really change the image and when I changed the resolution the pixels Exploded 10 times bigger....Upon looking at the image closer it seems to have made an improvement. Thanks!

      sorry i didn't said the tutorial will improve the appearance of the image , all i've been saying is that when you use the resampling options that has been made in photoshop for enlargement , when you resize the photo and zoom in to compare the small one with the enlarged version of the same photo you will realize that the enlarged photo is less pixelated than the original , and the tutorial is showing exactly this experiment , and in fact this will help someone who is trying to print a small picture on a bigger print size because when the viewer comes closer to your print he wont detect that it's pixelated , and we put in account that a little bit of a blurry image will be always better than a pixelated image when printed on a big poster ! thats why it's helpfull to use that resampling options in photoshop + some noise reduction will fool the eye of the viewer when he/she have a closer look on your print.

      It's so strange. I've worked magic where I've had an 800 x 600 pixelated image and turned it into nearly a smooth crisp painting. And then some horrid images taken with OLD CAMERAS, Lightroom and Camera Raw have no IDEA how to handle. It's Surreal! I think I have to get it through my thick skull that Lightroom and Photoshop can't continuously create what isn't already present....if that makes sense.

      anyway i hope my tutorial was somehow helpful for you
      i will give you another suggestion for your work flow :
      1 - open the photo in photoshop and go to image then enlarge it as described in the tutorial " it's up to you to set the size" but i may suggest to multiply the size by x 3 "width and height".
      2 - go to filter - camera raw and switch to the detail tab the third tab in where you will find the noise reduction parameters try to denoise the image but without making it too much blurry then apply the filter .
      3 - add a little bit of sharpness and contrast.
      try this work flow it may help !

    Edit: Please read comments for clarifications here as I may have gotten ahead of myself. My initial claim was: "Noise reduction works much better if you DON'T heighten the resolution from 72 -> 300 px first. You can do that after noise-reduction."

    • @Hdesigntutorialscom
      @Hdesigntutorialscom  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      i think this will make things look more soft and blurry after increasing the resolution , that's why i am not adding any filters on the image until it's big enough as i need it to be , so that i can decide then the amount of noise reduction to apply on the final result, while keeping in mind that image resampling is adding a little bit of blurriness to the image , also in the first place when you add noise reduction Photoshop will apply the filter and will process pixels which contains wider square dots on the image and that filter treatment will become bigger after enhancing the resolution , while adding any filters after increasing the Resolution will affect pixels containing smaller square dots which occupying less image data , which means less destruction and more filter definition.

      @@Hdesigntutorialscom I hear you. Absolutely... I just could not get the noise reduction to be aggressive enough after I had enlarged the image... But I also did enlarge as much as 3 times, so... Fiddled around alot and added some more sharpening in the end to soften the somewhat blurriness you mentioned. When I come to think of it I did increase the image size first and applied filters afterwards, and after that I increased resolution from 72 to 300 dpi, I think since I increased resolution so much I couldn't get the filters to attack the right surface area and had to do it before the final resolution enlargement... My comment should rather read: If you are enlarging enormously it could be beneficial to first enlarge maybe halfway, apply filters, and then complete enlargement, and apply filters again... Cause I don't think there's any settings to choose surface area of attack in Noise Reduction... Or am I wrong?

    • @Hdesigntutorialscom
      @Hdesigntutorialscom  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      for a simple , easy and clean work flow i suggest that you increase the resolution once not twice if you can't get the noise reduction filter to work effectively you can try applying the filter for two times , or you can even use the noise reduction filter in camera raw filters it's more powerful and of course you can add the filter to specific areas on the image by using masks or faded selections.

      unfortunately we can't remove blur from images we can only augment image size and resolution but you still can add a little bit of sharpness to bring up a little bit the details of an image.
