I used to run a VR lab in college. Motion sickness in VR is persistent in roughly 9% of men and 17% of women based on a study (I honestly dont remember the name of) from 2017 data. By persistent I mean they don't get their VR 'sea' legs ever. I had and still have my doubts on the reliability of the data and methods used to come to that conclusion (some of the participants quit before the end and I don't feel they ran the study long enough) but I was not in a position to get a larger sample size than the source paper to run my own tests. Anecdotally from daily participants Id have in my lab though, out of roughly 150 ladies and 500 men (really ratio'd school) we only had 3 women and 1 man who showed no motion sickness improvement after weeks and weeks of easing into it. Seated experiences are considered easier to manage.
I think you can train your brain to a point. I have a friend I VR with regularly. He used to get VR sick in anything with motion, but now he can handle games with running/walking just fine. There are still some things he can't do though, (flight sims for example), and he's been using VR pretty regularly for almost 4 years. I on the other hand can do stunt flying, high speed crash with flips and rolls, and anything else you might want to throw at me in VR (Not sure about roller coasters, but those get me sick in RL too lol). Then again, anything that DID get me sick when I first started I intentionally trained on until I could do it without getting sick, so maybe I'm just more trained for VR? I dunno, but I'm definitely glad I'm one of the lucky ones that can play anything without getting sick :)
I only play my Racing Sim via VR. I would recommend the Quest 3 but if you need something cheap with Pancake lenses the Pico 4 is also a good option as it works well with Virtual Desktop.
Motion sickness in racing games is harsh. I had to play in VR like 3 or 4 days with 2 hours everyday till it started to feel normal. Crashing is the worst thing.
Yeah, starting with VR needs easing in. You shouldn't start with the most intense games, but build up tolerance first with something less intense. Like some Beat Saber or some puzzle games, where you only have to stand still. And remember to take a break immediately, when you start to feel sick and return later. You'll build tolerance better that way and don't stay nauseated that long.
Racing sims aren't really the best for a first VR experience because it's almost guaranteed to make you sick. Don't get me wrong, it IS the best from a coolness standpoint, but you need some pretty good VR legs to not get motion sick. Best way to train your brain is to get out as soon as you start to feel sick and take a break. You might only be able to 5 minutes at first, but you'll go longer every time and after a couple of weeks you'll be good to go. You'll be slower at first too, but you'll get your speed back as you get used to it.
Yeah, so I actually had to build a tolerance. Took about 2 weeks of 30-minute sessions. Now I could play all day long and never get sick. Have to train your brain!
That was great. i remember when i 1st played VR was crazy. did that pedestrian help with directions? the part of you trying to reach everything like you was a little person or a kid was great. i have been thinking about getting 1 myself. buddy offered to sell me his because he uses the PS5 VR
@@Road2Racer yeah its just a preference. some people only use VR. racing with VR makes getting those breaking points easier. my current PB for Monza on ACC is with VR from mths ago
Yep, i use VR by 2018, i can't play sims on screen anymore by a lot of time. Motion sickness will stop in some weeks, when you start to feel sick STOP and play the next day
@acer yep, it took +- the same time to me. Drifting, DCS and do stairs while walking were the hardest things to overcome, but now i got 0 motion sickness no matter what i do in vr.
Ha I started Sim racing again about the time you started been following ever since and what do you know last night was my first VR race with the quest 3. I’ve been loving ACC and hate to leave it behind but Automabalista 2 is way better that ACC in VR in my view. Can’t believe how much VR adds my ability to race has already got better in just this short time . I guessing won’t be long until you NEED your own VR setup 😂
@@Road2Racer really great as with all VR but with out the need to tinker but once set up seems to work well. Motion sickness doesn’t seem to be a thing for me in Sim racing which is good. Feels so immersive problem is I don’t think I can ever go back to flat screen racing now 😀
Your brain will get used to the motion of it and the sickness will go away. Almost everyone can get over motion sickness with enough exposure to it.
I played onward alot when i had my quest. First week i could only play for 10 minutes before i got sick from just walking
I am old user in vr and you will do it, everybody use it for vr racing
You have to see if you have good frames per seconds and if is estable
Welcome to the club. ACC in VR is something else
Will have to try it someday. Also would love to try AC
@@Road2Racer AC is amazing in VR :P
Quest 3 with ac and esp ams2 is indeed a blast!
Nice! VR racing is a ton of fun, and Phasmophobia in VR is a trip.
Yeah, can't wait to get my own!

So glad you found VR Casey 👌🏻 I use a Pico 4 with AMS 2, but you should definitely go for the Quest 3 you’ll be even more blown away 🤯 😊
Hopefully soon!
I like how you are giving us the middle finger the entire time. lol. Great video !
🤣 you're the first to ever call it out.
@@Road2Racer lol. Just thought it was funny. Great videos
I can’t stop giggling watching this. 😊
What! You just got a rig and now a vr! I remember when you only had 200! Congratulations 🎉!
Yeah, not my VR though!

Great recommendation!
I see simhub, a couple of fans, and some transducers/bass shakers on your rig and pedals in the near future lol.
Hanging out the car Mad Max style, lol! 😂
Automobilista 2 has one of the best VR modes. It also has some pretty good AI, too.
It does!

For sure. Now I can play for hours and am not bothered. Have to build a tolerance.

Yeah I went intense for the entertainment 🤣. Next time I'll go easy.
I made myself feel rough just a couple of nights ago thinking I was being clever playing Skyrim in free move mode, that will teach me lol.

I forced myself to take it and on the 4th day - no more vr sickness. I just powered through it. It's just like battling seasickness.
Iam on psvr2 playing gt7 and its awesome. Not ever going to play on flat screen ever.
