- Incredible fishing line! Some bad flaws as well, but you are pushing for the extreme fishing sensations, you have to try this.
Here is a video of me fishing this line: • Crappie fishing with t...
I absolutely love your reviews: Thorough, balanced, and always informative. I learn something every time!
Ha! I wish i had an office! I would print this and pin it on the wall! Thank you sir!
Thank you for exposing me to something I never knew of before prior to seeing it on your channel. TY so much sharing Brother. Tight lines for all trout season opens in IL on 10/19.
Very well done. I am now trying it out with no leader.......so far it seems to be doing well. I just love the stuff for crappie fishing.....as you say it is hard to go back to nylon lines.
Now i want to try the other Varivas lines. Addictive as hell and unfortunately a bit too expensive for me. I've been spending all my 'fun' money on fishing...
Thank you! Your videos are always informative. Keep them coming I learn a lot.
Greetings! I tried Varivas Ajing Master Red Eye ester line and it did not to jump off the spool and was easy to handle while having excellent castability and sensitivity just as you experienced with the orange Varivas. I had #0.2 and used it on Shimano Vanford 2000s with no backing. It worked great on perch with 1- 3 gr jigs. I have not tried the orange one yet, but will definitely do it.
good info!
1-3g jigs???i use it with 0,5g spoons in trout area😁
Just started using .03 braids for sensitivity, and another spool of 3 lb Varivas mono for my lady friend. I've seen this on the shelves here, but didn't know much about it. Great breakdown. On your recommendation, I will give this a try.
this is the best ultralight fishing line in my opinion. I mentioned i don't like the feel of braid. I do have the same 3 lb varivas mono. I caught a carp with that line in one of my first videos this year. It was a long fight and it held up great. I want to buy the 4 pound though
I dumped fluorocarbon line barbecue it just flys off the spinning reel spool. I am in love with Copolymer lines. My two favorites are Silverthread and McCoy. I was sad to find out Silverthread has been totally discontinued after using it for almost 35 years. Luckily I have many many yards of it left.
Talk about a 'Love - Hate Relationship' .. This line can change your mood all day ecstatic to blue-in-the-face angry. But if you are looking to reach a new record in casting a 1/64 oz trout magnet jig and feel any tap on the line - you have to try this. If this is the first time you fish polyester (plastic) fishing line, you will get shocked.
if you are new to my channel, here is a video of me fishing this line: th-cam.com/video/jYb6KSU2BZE/w-d-xo.html
Victor I haven't fished with that light a line in a long time!! I received that stuffed boxx of crappie goodies yesterday.....When you do a GAW you go all out....I really appreciate all the tackle....I'm heading to the store so I can get a small tackle bag....Again.....Thanks!!
Saw very nice tool boxes for $7 at menards yeasterday. Medium size, lots of space. Would make a great tackle box
@@ifishcatfish I got a softie about the size of the shipping boxx with all sorts of Xterior pouches & 3 plastic compartment boxes....That should do the trick....Again ...Thanks!!
Hey brother got my presso reel. Not quite as refined as the exist but pretty damn close. Went out today before it started to rain and tested it out with that varivas super ester and your right it does come off the reel like nothing else. Little wrist twitch cast and it will go a mile. Because it wants to lay straight I had to take like 15 yards off as it wants to unravel. I’ll be testing it more but so far it’s pretty good.
I tested other polyester lines after that, and i can tell you, the other polyesters are not that impressive. This one is different, beats anything else in casting and sensitivity.
preparing reviews of other polyesters
I have enjoyed watching TM man. I know he keeps saying to try 2lb test, but I can't make myself do it. I have been sticking with 4lb Berkley Vanish from Walmart. Maybe one day I'll splurge on some JDM 2lb test. Great vid as always, thanks for saving me $14.
In your case... the transition will be shocking like mine. You can cast a 1/64 oz trout magnet literally twice as far. That said, if u fish from the bank, its really not worth it, as you will break off all the time..
100% agree with you. I love the live but it has its faults which I'm willing to work with. Great line and probably my favorite.
thanks man
I've been playing with Ardent Gliss line. I saw it on WAE fishing. The 18lb test is about .006 inches and I am waiting on 12lb which is .005 inches. It has some difficulties but I'm willing to deal with them. Breaking strength is awesome. Caught several 3+ pound bass through thick weeds. No problem. But be careful on the wind and if a fish throws the hook. It can knot up easily. I tie a leader of seaguar finesse line. Connection knot is tiny and flies through the guides. Sensitivity is through the roof. Overall not bad line to use at all. Don't have a boat so all my use is from the bank. Never seen varivas before your video and would love to compare it to gliss. I do need my glasses to see it however lol
I tested a lot more lines since this video, but no time to make new videos. Too busy with job and family. But this is till by far the most sensitive line i have ever tried and nothing comes close to it. I have seen the gliss line.. looks good.. very stiff though.. I can see how it will be sensitive if it is that stiff
Very interesting video! I like the drag tester it seems to be very useful to test the breaking strength of lines.
Today I finally had time to go fishing and use my new daiwa Legalis reel. It is great! Thank you a lot @i_fish for your great video about it which helped me decide which reel to buy.
This is what i love to hear!
Thanks for sharing this. I probably need to at least try it. It seems like it would be great for ice fishing or micro fishing. If you're not used to fishing 2 lb line, the 2 lb Ice Sufix I use can cast about twice as far as many 4 lb lines, so it's possible a good part of that casting distance is coming from the smaller line size. But still, I am interested. The extra sensitivity might be worth it in some situations. I'm a little scared of the low breaking strength, though. If I'm, say, trout fishing, I at least want a chance to land a big fish if I happen to hook into one.
Maybe when u get the Legalis, on one of the spools. Don't recommend putting such brittle line on something like the Penn. I don't think Pens have a very smooth drag on the lower end. You need the drag to pay line immediately in case of a jerk. But overall i think its a bad idea for bank fishing, as you always have abrasion somewhere. For me the way I fish i don't need very strong line.
As far as Suffix, if you are talking about the mono, I tried this a few years ago in 8 lb for carp fishing, and took it off my reels after just one session. The line would stretch so much when I snag before it breaks, that I now got more line than before the snag. I would get like 30 feet of stretch before breaking off! That was the smoke green color Suffix mono. Perhaps the worst line for sensitivity, but seems very durable with all that stretch.. However since I snag often, i can't use it because of this issue
@@ifishcatfish I use the 6lb Suffix Seige on some of my reels, and it has quite a bit of stretch but very durable. Having the extra stretch in the 2 lb is very useful, though, because without it is too easy to break off. It's all about getting the right mix. I've been fishing with braid more this year and it's great for pulling through snags and sensitivity, but even normal head shakes from catfish put a lot of stress on everything because there is no stretch. I see a lot of bass fisherman breakoff because their entire system is too rigid. I almost never break off unless I am really undersized like in our last canoe fishing video when we started out with 4lb line and were hooking 3-6 lb fish and they were pulling us into cover. Other than odd situations like that, if I get them hooked they aren't usually getting off and having some give in the system (rod, line, drag) helps with that.
But like you said, there are other factors, like snags, casting, what rod and reel it's being thrown on, how line-shy the fish are, the cover. That's what makes fishing fun :) I find myself going smaller and smaller, though, as time goes on, testing the limits.
@@ifishcatfish My experience with the Penn drag so far has been really good. Daiwa might be better, but I have no complaints about the Battle 2 or the Fierce 2 yet.
yes, stretch can help thin lines, and sensitivity is not important except in jigging without float. This line feels and casts quite different than mono though. Polyester is hydrophobic and the line is always dry. Also has no spool memory and wants to get straight. I am sure it will outcast any mono by a significant margin.
We are starting to use that line here in Italy too, for trout area game.
I'm not a fan of it though, too brittle and I don't see a casting distance difference with a thin braid (like the varivas pe #0.15).
Maybe that's useful in competition, when you want a sinking line to adjust the height of your lure.
But you have to keep in mind that this line is made for small trouts (like 200 gr max) and we use the drag very loose, because we don't have covers or structures in the small ponds we fish.
‘Brittle’ is good way to put it. I have not tried the varivas braids yet but i will
really curious about the varivas braids, so can't wait for these videos to come out!
@stefano what PE would you recommend on a daiwa 17 presso chasing stream/ small river brown trout up to 500g on the high end?
@@ggonguet varivas #0.2 or 0.3, depends on the speed of the river and the weight of the lures...if you choose the new Daiwa sensor II, don't go below 0.3, it's much thinner than the varivas 👍
@@Stefano-- Thank you for the reply, greatly appreciated
Inwas gona try some but all colors are high viz. some are 4 strand and i am done with 4 strand. I want a liw viz 8 strand so i can use it without a leader
YGK Ambercord is a nice alternative as a polyester line it is a litle bit more managleble than varivas. However it is clear line not high vis.
Agree. I have used this line a lot actually but didn't do a review because i thought its not popular but several subs are mentioning it and maybe i will review it
Honestly I’d not heard of this line before, and all that you’ve said doesn’t move me to buying it.
I wonder, though, how does it compare to the Berkeley Nano line? I have used it, in light gauge, and found it to be similar to how you described this line: highly sensitive little/no stretch, and casts like it’s not there.
But it is also rather fragile and breaks easily, and it is difficult to knot effectively....
this one takes a knot quite well, losing only 10% as you saw. As a matter of fact, very often when i break off a snag, it breaks at my hand, and not at the knot. Definitely the knot is not an issue. But seems like all kinds of things can damage it and it breaks off a lot easier in the water than when i test it here on the bench.
I neither expect nor encourage people to buy this line - it is quite an exotic piece of tackle with low utility..
Nanofil is a flat line and tends to remain suspended in the water. Polyester line is a sinking line and the Japanese mainly use it with very light jigheads (0.4-0.8g). Nanofil is fine with heavier jigheads and lures. Use polyester for small plastic lures, definitely not hard baits. Always use a leader.
I have just bought varivas red eye ester line for UL fishing here in Australia. Just a few questions as I am new to this.
1. Do you need to put backing on the spool?
2. I have seen you use double uni knot to your leader, does your knot run through the guides or is it outside it? How long is normally your leader?
3. I have been using braid (Shimano Kairiki) PE0.6 which is 0.06mm, wouldn't this be better as it is thinner than polyester and has a 6lb breaking strain?
Cheers from OZ, keep up the great content 👍🏼
1. i dont use backing unless i want to save line. But not to avoid slip.
2. uni knot is not the best for tying leaders. If you are young learn some smoother knot. I am just used to uni and can tie it with my eyes closed and use it out of convenience. If my main line is low viz color, i use very short leaders, only 2 feet. If my main line is high viz color, i use 5-6 feet of leader and then the knot has to go through the guides, and in that case i trim the knot all the way down, so no line sticks out.
3. braid is good on paper but i hate fishing with it. I hate the feel. Its very jerky and unsophisticated. I just hate that feel. But that's just me and has nothing to do with performance
@@ifishcatfish thanks for the response, cheers
You should try the new DUEL armored F + pro , same orange colour but more durable. Been test that with jumbo perch fishing, very nice
Jim J link?
Soooo tempting, but I think the line unspooling itself would drive me crazy!
To be honest, if this is what concerns you, you should go for it. You can learn to cast without backlash. The bigger problem is low breaking strength. That requires a very nice spinning reel with very nice soft drag. You can't put this line on some Penn spinning reel and hope it will last.
12 dollars with Prime same-day shipping on Amazon.... what! I love that Varivas is selling in the US.
i didn't know that. Thanks for letting me know
What about this colour vs the neutral? Do you notice any impact to the fish's ability to see it in the water? Also, do you fish trout with it?
yes , i fish trout. You have to use this line with a clear color leader, of course. Then its fine.
I use it for Trout Area but you have to put a leader of fluorocarbon of 0,14
i do something like that..
Brilliant vid mate . Randy is a legend . Can i ask who you purcheased it of on ebay ?-
I know i got next two spools from digitaka. Dont know about ebay.
Mr victor in your experience what line will you recommend for ultralight fishing for a beginner person I will be casting the1.25 & 1.0 grams jigs that I purchased in your online store brand and test capacity please 🙏
I recommend mono or fluorocarbon, but find diameter of the line, and it needs to be less than 0.14mm. If u can make it less than 0.13mm, then real fun begins. The line in this video is 0.10, but u will break it off every 20 mins if u r a beginner
@ will you recommend 2 lb or 4lb test
these 'pounds' are all over the place in terms of diameter. For me only diameter matters. Fat line will make casting difficult and sensitivity horrible. Don't care about pounds. Get the diameter in MM and follow my recommendations.
@ perfect thank you for your advice
The 0.5 line is thick. I use Sunline 0.25 aji no ito with 0.5g jigheads. No issues with casting.
thick for whom? you have to specify perspective. Probably thick for you, if you are from europe. For me its thin. I caught a 40" musky, unknow number of bass and catfish and carp on my ultralights, and i was lucky none of them were caught on this line. See - perspective!
@@ifishcatfish polyester line is generally used for aji in conjunction with 0.6-0.8g jigheads. I started off with a 0.4 line, and like you I had lots of line problems. It was at that time I realised my line was too thick for the jigheads I was using (1g). In fact 0.2-0.25 is the recommended line, so long as you use a leader. The idea behind this line is that you can use very small jigheads that gradually sink down the water column, enticing bites. The other problems you mentioned are very important. Another drawback is that polyester tends to spoil somewhat quicker than other lines.
i lost some small walleye (zander) recently with this line. They were very small, maybe not even 1 pound. The line broke very unexpectedly. Maybe it was nicked somewhere. If it is anything less that perfect brand new line, u have risk. No margin of error. Here in US we have big fish go for the same baits... i like to net those.. I would go to thicker line but this particular line just casts SO EASY,.. better than anything..
@@ifishcatfish yes that's true. It casts like a dream. I am assuming you are fishing in rivers and lakes.
I fish in USA. Its different here than in Europe. Europe fishing is horrible compared to USA, if we talk about public waters. So much more fish here, and also most of the fish has teeth. Predators dominate the waters. In europe it is all carp and F1 carp, and crucian carp, and a lot of other species that are not predators. U have some perch and some pike but its not much. I find fishing here in USA almost like saltwater - u never know what u gona catch if u start jigging a plastic. So many predator fish. Drum, catfish, several different bass, walleye, musky, pike, perch.... its a lot of fun and its worth having a good leader on the line and soft drag that can handle the first few seconds..
Seems like really light braid (like 0.2 or 0.3 go) has the same benefits but none of the drawbacks
Everything has drawbacks. EVERYTHING. I quit fishing braid 3 years ago. I don't use braid for NOTHING
@@ifishcatfish I feel you. Every time I have to tie the leader to braid in the dark with 20mph winds I keep telling myself I’ll never use braid again haha
@@vladd5291 yes, knots are a big problem. But i also hate fighting the fish with braid. It is so harsh, even with my soft rods. Even with my soft drag. Feels harsh, like driving a karuca with no rubber tires and no suspension and u feel every little pebble hit your kidneys
With the amount I get hung us go through a couple of spools of that in a month
Hi, do you recommend installing the ester in water or is it not necessary? Thanks
If u believe installing in water does anything good for the line its like believing in these voo-doo doll healers can heal you. It actually creates a lot of line twist because u can't control how the line comes out
@@ifishcatfish How do you recommend installing the ester?
Hello victor , where you do you get the jdm fishing line?
Just google, senior, and u will see what is closest to you..
Thanks i buy few in black friday deal .I love you videos im addicted 😅@ifishcatfish
Didnt know you guys use ester for trouts... we usuall use it for ajing lolol
What reel is that?
this is an old discontinued Daiwa Presso reel. I have a video called 'The Daiwa Presso Combo' if u want to see that reel unboxed from japan
XD thou a old video , yup play esther line like a bait caster :DD , winds , bad cast will give u knots haha...
u japanese?
Polyesters not for fishing line, polyester is made for pants in the 70s!
LoL -thats funny and objectively valid! :)
