Then there's another road cutting through it with just a bit of a bend, connecting two factories that were closed fifty years ago. In the middle of it all, half a roundabout. Not a whole roundabout, just half of one, so it looks like it should be a three-way crossroad and the GPS thinks it's a crossroad but it is technically and legally a very tight roundabout.
for those who don't speak french, the last one was just taking the piss about how pineapple in english (which is ananas in french) literally means "apple growing from a pine tree", which is just as stupid/nonsensical as the french word for potatoes meaning "apple from the ground"

From what I've heard, in olden times pretty much everything that was a fruit (or vegetable in the case of the potato) was called an 'apple'. The orange was originally called 'the apple of the orange tree' (also the color orange was named after the fruit, which, as you can see, was named after the tree).
I'm calling the French out on this one. A pineapple does in fact closely resemble the unholy love child of an apple and a pine cone, in that they are both basically fists full of spikes that fall out of trees. One is just slightly more edible than the other and gets compared to an apple rather than just being described by its basic geometric shape.
In my dialect in Swedish (Hagfôrsing, basically a bastardisation of stupidity) potatoes are called "joläppel". Dirt apples. Because everything is a fucking apple -.-
