Biedermann's still holds the world records in the 200m & 400m freestyle, but as they were swum & won with the now banned "super-suits," they are questionable? Previous records that were set by Phelps and Thorpe weren't in band suits. Phelps is the Goat (1 of the few times that Goat is overused) and what he has done in swimming will never be equalled. Cavic never beat Phelps. They traded records back and forth in the 100m butterfly, but Phelps always beat him in the end. It's kind of a shame though. Cavic had to end his career early due to back problems, otherwise that rivalry could have been entertaining for a while longer.

Phelps was barely 15 in Sydney and he didn’t swim against Thorpe there. The 200 was relatively new to Phelps in 2004 having only swum it internationally for about a year. The only reason he swam the 200 in Athens was to take on Thorpe and VdH. Many didn’t expect him to even medal in that race.
