I just totally loved seeing the pacific nations, the beating heart of world rugby, smashing almost all of the 'big' nations in the rugby league world cup in 2017.! I'm utterly sick of the top nations plundering the talent of these proud little nations. Union is rotten to the core with it. Tonga and PNG were absolutely fantastic in that world cup. I mean look at PNG's offloads in this 7's game, right out of Fiji's book!! Long Live Pacific rugby!
If PNG invests more in the game, they could be another Fiji team, mesmerizing and dazzling the opposition with speed and Melanesian magic. Edit: Rvstng. Thursday ngt - November 4, 2021.
@@growrugbyleague6353 depends. Union, particularly has a real team vibe. Especially in 15s. Maybe i'm a little biased as i play 15s and 7s in Europe. But yea, the game needs a lot more growth in PNG.
@@arthurimona5901 I respect rugby union but I wish rugby league could also grow overseas better… when you have watched rugby league all your life you know there is truly nothing else in the world like it. Unfortunately rugby union only wants to destroy league instead of work together. I wish this wasn’t the case and everybody could enjoy both codes as they please
Or at least sending a team to any Fijian 7s tournament to sharpen said skills, makes it a lot more entertaining on where the ball is going regardless of who's in possession. Even Spain sent a team there and it helped them alot with olympic repechage qualifications in Monaco in 2016 if I remember correctly.
Unfortunately PNG Rugby doesn't get as much attention nor funding compared to PNG Rugby league. Thus its harder to put teams together and develop proper structures moving forward. Even worse is the misuse of funds by organisers at the top. There is talent but most play league rather than union because there's more money there.
7s doesn't have as much funding as league. And Its also not as popular as league. So there is a much smaller player pool to choose from. That's why these players are all scrawny looking. While the league players are more athletic looking. Because there is more talent to choose from.
Mangi I think he meant why they don't look like the highlanders. most of these boys are coastal boys or from the islands of png,who play union. Alot of the highlanders are into rugby league. You go to certain provinces in png you find they are into certain sports.
Most of rugby union (including 7s) players are from the coastal provinces. League players mostly guys from the highlands provinces. It’s due to how those codes were introduced and played over the decades.
Need to recruit rugby league players to represent the nation like Cairo kapana is a rugby league player and need to recruit more league players like him.
Manus and Central provinces are Polynesian that are into Rugby but we have some from New Ireland, Sepik and Bougainville. Milne Bay province is Micronesian. We're diverse and PNG is the mother of the Pacific according to history

true. rugby league gets a lot of the money. not much goes to union

They do have potential, just need the right administration to popularize union a little more in order to rival league.

ONE TALK, how about games with Fiji to shapen your skills.

Way more better than PNG league players, more condition more speed.
