When this song came out. I was deployed with the United States Army after 911. I came home on leave, and my amazing wife had tickets for Toby Keith live in our hometown. That song was perfect for the time. We were as a country both angry, and unified like never before. Toby told it like it was in no uncertain terms.Today my youngest child is deployed in the Middle East protecting Israel and the interests of the USA. I am proud, terrified, and still angry. As an American & veteran I wish a large portion of citizens wouldn't take freedom for granted. Thank you for realizing patriotism is important. America is truly a melting pot of the entire world's citizens & the immigrants like my father (born in Ireland) & my mother's family (also Irish though my mother was born here) taught us that to be proud of this country & respect the heritage of Ireland. It pains me that many citizens don't even know basic American history or care that we had giants create this nation against steep odds putting their lives on the line to create independence & the constitution to regulate what the government legally can & can't do. Whenever I watch this video and he sings "My daddy served in the Army and lost his right eye, He put a flag out in our yard 'til the day that he died, He wanted my mother my brother my sister and me to grow up and be happy in the land of the free..." I immediately start crying. It's one of my favorite patriotic songs all time.
I was taught as a child that as an American, we will help anyone in distress. My Mom taught me this with neighbors and strangers who needed help in exceptional and kind ways.

Having served in the Marine Corps during the war on terror time period, there were a lot of American performers that visited the troops through USO tours. Besides Toby Kieth some of the others include Rascal Flats (country music), Kid Rock, actor Gary Sinese, actor Vince Vaughn, and even the Arizona Cardinals cheerleaders from the NFL. Famous comedian Bob Hope got famous from his USO tours in WWII. In case you didn’t know, USO is short for United Services Organization. They are an organization that provides entertainment to the troops, lounges for the troops in airports, and other travel comfort services around the world.

And those troops have passion for their country & their mission, where many troops across the world are doing it because they are forced to by their oppressive governments & they are not treated well & wouldn't be there unless forced.

Toby Keith was extremely Patriotic and supported our military and Vets, he just didn't say, he actually wen to them, helped them in whatever way he could, and never quit!!! Toby went around singing at the American bases and sang this for our troops. It didn't get released until much later when he was told it was too good to remain only for the soldiers. Even though the military is all volounteer and will fight much harder than a drafted army, they are not the only ones who say "heck yes!" when this song is played. Toby will be missed.

My Dad served in Vietnam and Korea...the USO tours were amazing...he even got pictures with Bob Hope and with Phyllis Diller. Those pics were precious to him..."it proved somebody cared about us".
I grew up in the 60's and 70's. In school we would every morning put out hand over our heart, face the flag and say the pledge of allegiance. Sadly it is not done today. It goes: I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God. Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.
I live in central California and I was a substitute until the covid lockdown. Most schools played the national anthem and then did the pledge of allegiance, and the few that didn’t do both did one or the other.
We said the pledge of allegiance and the preamble to the Constitution as well.
Toby was a great country and American icon. He was 62 years old when he passed away on February 5th and his birthday was July 8th. He actually at first never planned to record this song but only play it for the troops. Commandant of the Marine Corps James L. Jones told Toby it was his duty as an American citizen to record the song. "It's your job as an entertainer to lift the morale of the troops," Jones said to Toby. "If you want to serve, that is what you can do" R.I.P. Toby Keith.
Toby was 62 when he passed. His birthday was just a few days ago on the 8th. R.I.P. Toby!
I listen to this song all the time, and I always get chills and swell with pride. I watch your son during a lot of the videos because his little face has so many emotions and thoughts going across it, it’s very endearing and makes me see familiar things with new eyes. God bless you all. 🇺🇸

His patriotic songs really capture the spirit of the actual troops - not just jingoist slogan type lyrics. Also, I think you would love his more humorous songs like "Red Solo Cup", "I wanna talk about me", "What do you think of me now" and "Who's yer daddy". He also has a heart breaking song about the passing of his good friend Waymond Tisdale - a famous basketball player, called "Crying for me".

Right after 9/11. American flags were flying all over the country. Pickup trucks had flags flying high as they drove through the towns and cities all over the country. It was a proud moment to see how much we supported each other through the worst attack on U.s soil in my 50yrs of life to see a nation come together with Pride and love in their heart. Thats how we cope together when we go through a tragedy. Pride of the our country 🇺🇸

Saw Toby Keith a million years ago at my Missouri county fair. He was touring his BlueMoon album back then. I remember that summer night was hot as hell, and Mr.Keith put on a good show. I wish I had made it to more of his concerts.

He was a great husband, father, friend and patriot. He will be greatly missed by so many people! RIP Cowboy!!

I've always had a lot of respect to all of our soldiers. My father served in the army for almost 20 yrs, he did 2 tours in Vietnam, his father, I have uncle's & cousins that have served. I salute all of our soldiers whether their active duty, vets & the families of the soldiers that are no longer with us. You should check out Alan Jackson's song 'Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning'. He wrote it after 9/11, it's such a beautiful song & makes me tear up every time I listen to it.
