I use my weeks for low barrier journaling too. The small space is just enough for a couple of lines each day and then I add photos and ephemera to the right side. It’s very low stress!

I have been most consistent using a hobonichi as a planner because it’s smaller per day, so I don’t fill my day with too many tasks and overwhelm myself. I can set a reasonable amount and actually get it done 😂 the paper doesn’t bother me too much but I do get your point. I have a separate bullet journal for the aesthetic, the hobonichi for me is much more functional

My Weeks remains my functional, messy on the go planner. Four years now. As a retired person, it has just barely enough space to organize my typical week of activities (music ensembles, educational classes, book clubs, political stuff, domestic chores). I use the notes section for lists, projects, it is enough. For dailies, when needed, I typically use index cards. I keep an A5 Filofax for reference stuff, and use binders for big projects, tracking my books, music practice and classes.

  • @Serafijm
    @Serafijm ปีที่แล้ว +11

I have the exact same one. I use it to write my weekly to-do list on the right side of the page and appointments on the left side. I'll also write down milestones I've completed for my writing. I'm not great at planning or goal setting so having something small to build the habit is better for me than starting out with a big planner that'll leave me with a ton of empty space (which will make me feel guilty).

I resisted the Hobonichi Weeks like grim death, but a friend bought it for me a few years ago and I've not looked back since... mainly because of the paper. It takes beautifully for fountain pens, but I love to do a bit of watercoloring in it too. I have expanded into the Cousin (A5) too, and there is something very satisfying about the completed pages as you flip through them. The Weeks has become my EDC and it's so easy to travel with too. Just a word of caution, if you are planning to add "bulk" (stickers or photos, etc.) it'll chunk up and not be as easy to keep closed. Hope it works out for you.

Haha, love your description of the TR paper as used toilet paper that's been dried in the sun! To me it's like church hymnal paper.
I like my Hobo weeks well enough, been using it for the first time this year as a daily to-do list. I'd thought about journaling in it, but ended up getting an A6 notebook by Hobonichi to journal in instead, since I do like how the paper works with my fountain pen (I'm also heavy-handed and I'm trying to train myself to be more mindful of how I write and to write neater). I don't use stickers or washi much in my weeks, but it does fluff up a little, like a used bible, which has a nice feel, oddly enough!

I have been using a Hobonichi since early 2015 (for the first 3 years I used the Techo A6, then from 2018 on the Weeks), but I had to pause for the last 2 years because I was too weak to write after COVID-19 hit me like a brick. I have recovered well enough by now to start planning in a paper planner again. I got the Hobonichi Weeks Mega for 2024 and am so excited because today the Weeks started and I can finally play with my pens and washi tapes again. I missed it more than I like to admit.
The Tomoe River Paper is my absolute favorite. I like to use watercolor to color in my tiny sketches and it works so well. I have a mini iron (it's a craft iron from Clover) which I use to iron the pages after they crinkle because of the watercolor. The pages are so smooth afterward and it looks beautiful.
I have a special use for the 100-list: every year I write 100 things that I would buy again in case I've lost everything. It is like a snapshot of what's going on in my life. Some things stay, some things change, but it's a small ritual for me to assess what is valuable for me right now.

I tried Hobonichi years ago (the cousin) and I stopped using it, having the months and the weeks and then all the days was a bit much and I couldn't keep up. The concept though is amazing (all paper talk aside). I had zero plans of buying another, but then my step daughter announced that she and her family were going to visit Japan this summer! Ha! So, I asked her to grab me a Weeks. It's the Japanese version, I don't understand anything so this video helped me with that, thank you. I plan on using it for a very specific purpose which is a memory keeping log of sorts. I don't always stay on top of my scrapbooking as I should so I needed a place to write down little stories from all the days and any additional notes. I don't plan on decorating it at all, staying very functional with it....I think. lol But, since I'm forgetful, this should help me with my story telling in all my scrapbook/memory keeping albums. I am also trying to make 2024 the year of journaling...I bought a Take A Note planner for that though because it's not weekly, and not daily, it's like this midsize amount of space for your daily writing in a week on 4 pages? layout. Anyhoo, felt less intimidating to me than a whole page for a day...I'm pretty boring and don't have that much to say. Or do I? Seems like a wrote a whole book here!! haha

The clapping hands is for theater performance, ballet, plays or musicals. Or if you are not into it, maybe a person who has done something exceptional and you wanted to remember the event. Take a look at 222 on the 365 days in the back of the book.
To me it is more like bible paper, not used toilet paper…Though the Costco toilet paper you are almost there, but used never gets crinkly.
The flap on the cover on cover, I do not think anyone ever uses it. I don’t even use the pen loop. I use the back pages for my Native American spirit animal medicine cards. I got the B6 Sterling Ink. I use the one mentioned above as an EDC for when I am out and about. The cousin I use for my thesis work and planning only. These are the two I use this year. Any planner that I bought that goes unused, the calendar will be the same a few years down the line. I do not put much washi or stickers down in my books, since i hate breaking the spine. Take care Cindy, if the Hobonichi weeks is not for you, then that is okay. I do not try to push a planner on someone. I know that it is my autistic obsessive interest, and I just share the joy a bit with some close friends for a few min.

The cover on cover bookmark btw can be used as a Velcro closure. Stick some Velcro on the end the bookmark and the back of the book

LMAO! Hobonichi totally got me this year too!! I ordered a teal and a bright pink one. I just cannot get past the red on the pages. Still not sure what I will use them for.

There’s quite a few US retailers too. And some of us have codes to some to save on the hobos (and other products). I think it’s a great size for health/wellness, line a day journaling etc. it’s very portable. Though I much prefer the size from other makers over hobo. I like the paper color better but more so the use of functional space. hobo wastes so much with quotes. And now there’s SO Many other versions even in different layouts.
    I don’t have/didn’t buy the LPD but have some others I’m sharing/comparing.
I think you’d like this for your bag (or one of the three 😂)

I'm planning on using my Weeks to have a little gratitude/positive thing every day. And if I don't have one, or am low on mental health energy; I'll stick a washi or sticker on the day. The monthly I use to write down my daily card pull!

Thanks for sharing, and good luck with building a (micro)journalling habit! I‘m currently using the PaperTess Designs Weekly Notebook as a microjournal; will definitely continue to do so once the PTD planners for 2024 release (sometime soon-ish). The PTD Weeks is similar to the Weeks but has more structure. Making it fit my journalling and tracking needs was a major part of what caught my interest about its layout (and there’s also the fact that PTD is a German shop, so cheap shipping and no import taxes for me who is also in Germany). Both the PTD Weekly Notebook and the Weeks are contenders for my EDC as well, but I haven‘t made a final decision on that yet.

I debate every year, but I always ending buying one eventually (since 2018). I just broke down and ordered from Japan yesterday. I do really love that it is small enough to throw in my bag. I don't always use the weekly section, but the months were super helpful when I was working full time at a hospital (weird, irregular shifts), going to college full time, and having to travel to another state for my daughter's college theatre performances. I also really like all the room in the back for notes. One thing I have done the past two years is to do a start of the year tarot reading and put my cards inside the clear cover. I have the Good Karma Tarot deck, and its pastel colorway usually looks great with whatever plain color I get.

I've been using an A6 Day-Free as a very stripped-down Bullet Journal for 3 years now. It's basically 15 monthly calendars, like in the Weeks, and 171 gridded, numbered but undated pages to use as one wishes. I'm seriously considering trying out the new(er) English-Language HON model for next year because I want to see whether time blocking will work for me. The A6 HON is like the Original Techo but with a hard cover. There's also an A5 that is more like the Cousin with monthly, weekly, and daily pages. I carry mine around with me so the hard cover will be sturdier for keeping in my bag without needing an additional protective cover. But I may also order a Day-Free as a fallback if the HON turns out to be a little too ordered for me. I did try a Weeks a few years ago, but ditched it because it always looked so messy. The weekly pages just didn't have enough room, and I never found a good use for the gridded pages.

I love everything about the Weeks (Mega) and have been using it for years. Not out of brand loyalty or fandom, it just works for me. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Next year I'll try Catherine's (Sterling ink) for my planner/bujo but I got this same one for my daily journaling! The color just gives me life. 😊 It's worked great this year, if I want to freehand, I use the right page, if life is more hectic, I only use the left and doodle, watercolor or vent or sg on the right. I'll be interested to see which planner you end up picking!

I ordered au undated hobo weeks knockoff last august and it has worked very well for me as I only have 1-2 appointments and a relatively small todo each week. I bought a fantastic custom folio from a Ukrainian Etsy seller and love my set up.

I am in the Mega again this year. I was really tempted by the regular-size with the cats on the cover, but when I checked (the day they went on sale) I was already on page 66 of the notes pages, so that really wasn't a viable option.
The Weeks is my functional planner. On the weekly spread, I use the first section for of the daily for schedule, the second for time blocks and other notes, the third for habits, and the first part of the grid for my top task of the day. The rest of the grid space is an Alistair-style to-do list, broken out by context (home, online, desk, etc).
I use my notes pages for a bullet journal, which is why I need so many of them.
As someone with sensory issues in other areas, I'm kind of surprised that I don't have any when it comes to paper. I can use Tomoe River, 160 almost cardstock, or cheap-ass school filler paper without any problems.
I'm looking forward to hearing about your journaling practice!

I have a suggestion for those of you who haven't used one and you aren't sure, I'd suggest getting the 2023 one. You can find them online cheaper.
I bought a spring 2023 (japanese) to try it out before I got a 2024 one.

2024 will be my 3rd year using a Weeks. I’ve been attempting to use a planner system for over 11 years, it’s the only one I’ve really keep up with. I hated the paper at first, BUT learning what to use and what to avoid (if I want to make a quick note) has made all the difference.

I like the idea for a health journal, especially for logging blood pressure daily and other things that I need to record as well as short journaling about how I’m feeling. Then recording outcomes of doctor visits. It’s small and portable and you could easily bring it with you to a visit.

oh I'm so excited you're going to look at this too. I just bought one for work because I only use a rolling weekly task list at work, and this is one of the few unfussy planners other than a bullet journal that is set up for that (I plan to put my events and meetings in the day side, weekly task list on the graph paper side). I've never had a hobonichi before but I knew about the huge hype around them, so I'm excited to see how it goes. For the super tiny yearly log, I think I'm going to use the top space above each month as a key for projects (which at my company are assigned numbers), maybe with dot pens.... then plop that color dot on days I worked on whatever project to help me with billing clients. Something like that maybe
