THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have been in the dark about how to write a DBQ for days. Everybody in my class seemed to know exactly what they were doing, but me. As a result, I fell into a vortex of anxiety. I didn't think I was capable of writing a DBQ. I began to doubt my intellect. I thought I wasn't smart enough to take AP World History: Modern. One day, while browsing through a plethora of history videos, my cursor landed on "3 Steps to a Perfect DBQ Score." I was familiar with your channel, but I never watched the videos in detail. Not discovering your channel earlier was clearly a mistake after seeing your simple explanation of the terribly complex College Board rubric. You do a fantastic job! I am now pleased to say that I am fully prepared for my DBQ test on Wednesday. So, Heimler, thank you very much. You have no idea how much I appreciate this as a sophomore in my first AP class. Keep making videos. They really do help.
@@Chainless_Slave7 I got a 6. Keep in mind that this is not the actual AP Exam, but a class test. I would've received the 7th point had I used more sources. Heimler's advice really helps, but don't overthink it. AP World is not as difficult as it seems.

@heimlershistory I have noticed that your snapshots of the rubric that appear periodically throughout the video are not what is written in the APUSH CED for the DBQ Rubric. For example for the evidence section of the CED it mentions that in order to earn the "2 points" you must use SIX documents while in the video it says FOUR. Also, in the APUSH CED it never mentions being able to "Effectively use 7 documents" to obtain the "complexity" point. Has the CED been updated since this video was made? Just looking for clarification, thanks!
thanks so much for the video! i had a quick question though: how does explaining the "Why" portion for sourcing differ from giving historical context of the document? like could you give an example of what you would do for sourcing and then what you would write for the why portion?
For the thesis, you mention that Its good to go A counter argument, B evidence 1 and evidence 2, C the argument...am I needing to fully review the documents to chose B (the 2 evidence)? Or am I focusing on the strongest evidence I know of, and trying to get the documents to fit that?
Question: would It be better on the test to structure the body paragraphs around the documents or use the documents as an example in your own reasoning?
@Adumbb To get the 2 points in the evidence portion of the LEQ you have to use specific historical examples that is relevant and supports your argument. You don't need to quote anything?
@Adumbb Like let's use how the Edict of Nantes gave religious and political right to people: The Edict of Nantes provided religious tolerance as well as civil rights for the Huguenots, in which they did not previously not have. You just have to explain what it does just not a direct quotation. You never use quotes on any writing portion of the test. Just put what it means instead if you are trying to use quotes.

Outside info is just something relevant to your thesis or prompt that isn't mentioned in or by your documents

That’s the old rubric. Maybe your teacher still requires it, but that’s not what you’ll see on the exam.
