Finished building my Rock Socker recently and just had a blast around the garden. Fitted mine with Hobbywing Fusion SE 1800 which performs more than well enough for me. Very impressed by how the 4 wheel steering works, especially compared to turning circle on my CC-02 Unimog. Now I just need some decent weather so I can get the body sprayed and finished. Built mine with a few metal upgrades so might be a bit heavier than Tamiya intended!
I've just realised that's the same body as the stadium blitzer.. you've got it looking fantastic.. I love stadium trucks.. come on tamiya.. bring back the monster racer and king cab..👍🇬🇧😎
Never heard of, or remember seeing this one ever at all. I'm thinking I was beating the tar out of my Marui Big Bear. Great paint! And this Tamiya chassis looks pretty good
Yes, genious. Your building and painting videos are outstanding. Cant get enough. I am very interested in this car. So, later on I definately will have one. This video will be my reference for building it up. Thanks and please go that way on.
Great paint job. Althought the big T designed this chassis as a crawler, in my mind it's more a trailing car. Maybe it's because of the lack of the aftermarket and upgrade parts. Traxxas and Axial are for sure better placed in the community.
Fantastic build, wishing i had your body finishing skills to make mine look as good! Weird thing - i've found that it is much more capable climbing backwards. So i switched the front and rear body mounts (and shell) so that the rear wheels steer. Amazing difference for No cost! Much more capable. Imagine pushing or pulling a wheelbarrow. The diffs are both locked making manoeuvring difficult however, not any more. Battery weight is in a better place. Try it (without switching the shell) and I hope you'll see how much more capable it is climbing backwards :)
Love the paint work you have done on this one, think I may have to see if I can pick up that body set still. I have a CR01 but the Land cruiser and I feel I may like this body better for crawling
I’d be curious as to your technique to getting the tape into the hard to reach places….would be cool to see the “how” you did that hard part. You did great btw, I can’t seem to find this truck here in AZ
Its always the body that gets me, i try to do a good job but never quite get the finish i want. Prep is key, your masking is what made it. Could you brush paint the roll bars? Would that be an option?
@@RCKickschannel ok thanks, i have the toyota cruiser version, you can get lifts that give more ground clearance fir them and the metal drive shafts are a good option also, as the plastic ones can twist and pop out. All in all its a very capable crawler/Trailer. You do great content mate. 👏🏻
I have one as well but somehow I managed to strip out the little slot on the inside of the wheel. Do you have any idea of where I could get a replacement?
Putting down a few layers of the clear fills up all the small gaps in the masking. When you then put down the colour, you get way fewer issues with paint creeping and much sharper lines and corners.
@@RCKickschannel I’ve not seen this technique before, I’ve Googled with no success - do you show it in another video? I always have trouble with paint bleeding under the masking tape… I’ve got the Unimog version of this - I had many of the same problems as you with the chassis rails!
Got to say the body looks fantastic. Certainly looks like the silver can is too quick to do any proper crawling and you need to add something with a few more turns to get the control needed.
I’m not sure if I will sell this on or mod it yet. I have the Fantom CRC-II to build next so I’ll hold off for a bit and see how I feel in a week or two. IT’s crying out for a body swap for sure.
@@RCKickschannel 2cv body would look awsome 😁 im looking forward to the fantom, im half tempted to get one myself. But now need to save for the new schumacher 😂
Lovely looking truck but it Looks like the shock oil must have been frozen the way it was bouncing over the bumps. I don’t know why Tamiya think every single vehicle they sell needs their 40wt “ soft “ oil that rig could probably do with about 10 or 20wt in that with the pistons drilled out. I suppose they leave that up to the advanced builders discretion.
Yep 100% the suspension could be improved on this one. It also has some play in the pivot arms so that contributes to the jiggling aspect of the suspension

That's the best looking truck, since the Toyota Monster Racer/ King Cab. Looks great. 👍🏻
Never heard of, or remember seeing this one ever at all. I'm thinking I was beating the tar out of my Marui Big Bear. Great paint! And this Tamiya chassis looks pretty good
Cool running video! Now build that Quadtrack and really tear the snow up!
The red rollbar looks fantastic
Thanks
I have the Bronco version myself.. 4wheel steering on one of these is easy to do and really fun!
Good looking truck. I've seen them vary different suspension. Turned out great as always.

Gavin, you have really taken your body finishing skills to the next level! The last few bodies have been supreme.
Thanks
Looks great very capable truck good job
You did an excellent job on the truck. it looks great and looks like fun in the snow.
It was!
Turned out well looks really good Gavin 👌
Wow, what an awesome looking truck, you've done a superb job there mate!!
Thanks a lot!
Roll bar looks fantastic !
Thanks
Can you show how you clean up or correct mishaps? Great tip for the flat clear! Keep up the good work!
Ok will do in the next body painting video
And for a bonus this is the same body as the stadium blitzer. So if you need a new one here’s your chance.
Getting a bit good on your body painting skills there Gavin.
Practice makes perfect!!
Great paint job. Althought the big T designed this chassis as a crawler, in my mind it's more a trailing car. Maybe it's because of the lack of the aftermarket and upgrade parts. Traxxas and Axial are for sure better placed in the community.
I wish I had your patience . You should see my mess. 😁

I will give that a try Lewis.
I really liked it without the decals. Looked classy!
i love it! would never have considered this before, would love to see it with clod wheels and tyres
I have the Unimog version of this. It's time tamiya comes up with a CR-02 that is a bit more crawl capable 😁
Looks great Gav
Thanks 👍

So I think either the king cab or Amarok bodyshell would look great on that chassis 😀
It turned out looking great! I know taping off all that roll bar area was a giant pain but well worth it in the end!!
I’d be curious as to your technique to getting the tape into the hard to reach places….would be cool to see the “how” you did that hard part. You did great btw, I can’t seem to find this truck here in AZ
It’s not that exciting, it’s just taking your time and focusing on the detail to get it as clean and straight as possible.
I love building, I like painting. I HATE masking.😂
Its always the body that gets me, i try to do a good job but never quite get the finish i want. Prep is key, your masking is what made it. Could you brush paint the roll bars? Would that be an option?
Possible but I do t know if that would be easier

Good lookin rig.! Are softer springs available?
I think ur right about it being a monster truck. Or maybe a trail truck. But rock crawler or even rock bouncer like the Axial Ryth it's definitely not
You said low profile servo! 😁
I have one as well but somehow I managed to strip out the little slot on the inside of the wheel. Do you have any idea of where I could get a replacement?
See if the part was used on another rere kit. You can find out on Tamiyabase
@@RCKickschannelthanks I’ll check
How does the suspension sit with the battery and electronics in? It was a bit loose before
The issue is the pivot pin has some play so that can be fixed with some small black zip ties.
Loads of space for electronics
Regarding the painting you put clear on first and then the paint I’m not sure what this does can you please explain thanks

I need to stop watching videos. Now, I want one..

Yes if you want to do more rock you would 100% change out the motor.
I think I would go supersoft suspension as it seems to be wobbling across the snow
100% agree
It would have been nice to see you fit the electrics
Sorry about that. It’s totally open and just a flat deck so you can stick them anywhere really. I should have put a picture in.
Cracking result Gav, when do the mods start ? 😁 nice to see the stickers aint to bad, looks a pain from the box art piccy 😎

Show it with clod tires! Please
Never fit as the offset of the Clod rims is massive.
@@RCKickschannel gotcha, perhaps something a bit larger than stock…anyway the look is cool, like a monster stadium racer
may be the black for the bed could have been done one the outside and use the film as a mask.
Yep, it would be possible I think.
you should use liquid mask
I’ve tried and didn’t get on with it. I need to try again.
This was my question too.. All that tape is expensive and hard to apply...not to mention more risk of bleed.
Guess you aren’t setting much of a time around the track 😂
Its a crawler not a monster truck.

That thing looks good👍; but it was super cool and bada@# looking without all those decals☹️ should have left it without
Was that as fast as it gets..... Zzzzzz... Stick something brushless in for a lap test and race against a Blackfoot 🚧
It's a crawler, not a monster truck.
