We were here for the festival last weekend! Great fun, bought my hammer back with me. Can’t remember what the significance is with the hammer 🤦🏻‍♀️ we got involved with the street parties, the music was incredible! We didn’t know about the festival till after we booked it. It was the highlight of the trip for me 🎉❤💃🏻💃🏻

The hammers have no significance at all - in the 60s a man invented them as a noisy toy for an academic party and then people used it for São João with a similar purpose of the more traditional leek

I don't have the copyright for the São João music, eventually the video could be taken down by TH-cam. I used music I paid the rights for. I know, it would be much better if I could use the original songs been played there.
