I have, in fact, several times improvised versions of this. Oftentimes, my snow trips have gone longer than I intended, leaving me in the soft afternoon snow. A quick pair of these can make getting back to the truck a lot quicker trip!!! Great demo Tim!!

I suppose they would be quite quick to make if you weren't filming the process 😂. Helps to be quick with the winter daylengh up here.
I have only made a pair once before. Did a much nicer job, peeled all of the bark off and everything. They would have looked so much nicer in the video.
      Thanks for watching mate.

Now that is cool Tim. Just knowing the basics will come in handy in an emergency or for a craft making a pair with your kids and taking them out on the trails, sense of accomplishment.

It is a nice project, I would love to make a proper pair of snowshoes one day too. I rarely have the time for these kind of things.
      Thanks for watching Dan.

Bindings are always a bit of a hassle on primitive snowshoes...takes a bit to work out the kinks.
Looks like you were enjoying some very good flotation from those shoes and I would call that a success!

It was like walking on concrete mate. Actually they could have been smaller and lighter. Like wearing concrete shoes walking on concrete perhaps. I should really have sussed out the bindings a bit more before filming the end of the video, but I was running out of time and daylight.
I don't remember having any problems with the bindings the first time I made these. But then again it was only a minor bit of faffing to get it right. I would probably have forgotten about that by now.
All in all it was a very fun little project. Thank you very much for joining me my friend.

We have heavy snow forecast for Scotland, I am going to have a go at making these in my shed in the warm lol

That's exactly how I made my first pair, and do you know what? They turned out much nicer than the pair in the video.
Thanks for watching mate. Enjoy the snow.

Haven't watched your videos in a while, nice to hear your cute British accent again. I liked the sound effects when Uni was running😂

Nice of Unni to be running around on the compacted snowmobile trail while I was doing a video about getting around in the soft snow😂 looked so conving. At least she was enjoying herself. The whoosh sound suits her very well.
Thank you very much for stopping by Inna, always makes me happy to see your comments.

Wonderful film. Hey, I have enjoyed using the Farrimonds for most everthing, including to tie something down, instead or common clove hithces, jam knots and other. Would like to try it out on shoes like theese.

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Its generally good not to overcomplicated things with knots, it's good to just have a few multi purpose ones. You can do a lot with Canadian jam knots, farrimonds or barrel knots (they do similar jobs). Farrimonds would work great for these snowshoes too. So glad that you enjoyed the video mate.
Thank you very much for watching.

That looks like a useful item to make in an emergency or if your snow shoes brake. And they actually work 😁 You've got on shot how you sunk in the snow when you took them off. That's a lot of snow. Take care Tim 👍

Thanks mate, looking forward to seeing how well they work for pulling stuff over the snow. They are kind of like a mini dog sled. Unni is looking forward to that experiment too 😂.
      Thanks for watching buddy.

Absolutely no shortage of yellow snow with over 200 dogs😂. Been building a quinzee on the farm today. Have to be very careful where to get the snow from.
