The fact that Louis could have easily told the Nazi family that he wasn't Jewish when asked, but instead he asked why it mattered and didn't reveal whether he was or not... He is an amazing example of what a human being should be. Everything he says or doesn't say has meaning and weight, and he knows it.
My favourite moment of his. I remember watching it for the first time and how i felt, I cant imagine the pressure he felt. SO much respect for this man, I would of folded like a house of cards.
Not really, that can be extremely confrontational and usually end interviews quickly. Its because he can adapt, humanize and go through the thought process with the people he is interviewing.
@@randomlad830 like Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over is one of my favourite, one of Louis documentary I've watched a lot is the autism one and the most hated family in America
He’s a very smart interviewer. By his demeanour alone, people let their guards down and are fed questions in such a particular way that they think they’re in control or think they are the one calling the shots. His British sass is also the greatest and so many don’t pick up on it
The Scientology one is the best. It was really well done and the more light shined on that cult, the better. There’s a lot of people that are getting hurt by the “church”.
My favourite Louis Theroux moment is when he visits the Miami Mega Jail and an inmate asks him if hes " a real n****" and without skipping a beat he says "What do you think?" lol. I think Louis would do just fine in prison.
I get that dudes point though , you need to fight in there and if you never normally fight you dont really know if you can or not you may never have been in a fight but your tough as nails and can fight good but you just dont know unless you find out , plus you will find its simply fighting regardless of winning or loosing that gets you respect
Louis is the archetype of how all interviewers should conduct themselves. Minimal interference. Open, generally un-judgemental questions. It's the reason so many of his subjects bond strongly with him, even when their beliefs don't align.
I love all his documentaries but the one that touched me the most was 'edge of life'. I recommend everyone to watch that one at least once. It is so powerful and incredibly moving (and sad if I'm being honest, but it's presented in the most sincere way).
Louis is a legend. Love it when he pretends to not be aware of what’s happening and pretends to ask an “innocent” (almost stupid) question just to trigger the other person 😂 Then he keeps getting too close to the line until “oops” he crosses it 🫢😂 he’s brilliant 👍🏼
Yeah except the one where he thought twinky teenaged boys are going to take over the White House and they can't even manage to stay cohesive,SOLID REPORTING BRO 👌 🤣 What a joke..
He has literally taken awkwardness and made it a career, the rest of us awkward introverts sit in awe and the man who stepped outside, nice one braniac christ was Jewish 😂
I've been a big fan of Louis since he first appeared on T.V. His unique style is what sets him apart from all the rest. A true English legend. I am looking forward of what's to come from Louis in the future.
I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned but Louis also did a third documentary on the Westboro Baptist Church and it's called Surviving America's most hated family in 2018. It's brilliant of course and really interesting how much the family has changed after the leader and creater was actually kicked out before he died and multiple family members leaving.
When I say changed its not exactly in a good way, they are still extremely terrible but not as brutal and seem more vulnerable especially the pastor's daughter.
"Louis Theroux stepped out of his comfort zone"--well, it might have looked like that but he *is* a long time Hip-Hop fan (going back to before the narrator was born) and was a regular sight on the letters page of UK rap magazine Hip-Hop Connection (as "The King Lou E."). Always makes me chuckle a bit when I see all this "lol posh UK journalist steps out of comfort zone to get down in the 'hood" etc. etc. But I think Louis really played up to it, though, so he's probably partially to blame, lol
why is it you don't quite get that LT elevated the discussion to highlight how irrational, extreme or daft these situations are ... that was his skill. he blended in to illustrate craziness
Step 1: Ask a surprisingly genuine question that makes the person you're talking to question what they're even saying for a moment Step 2: Keep eye contact
I've worked with Louis on a bunch of his projects. An absolutely brilliant professional and the best at bringing back someones comment only to prove the hypocrisy a certain individual is living.
I remember specifically his documentary about the Westboro Baptist church, I'm sure if it was for him those daughters wouldn't have seen that their family was NOT a Christian family, and they could lead decent REAL Christian lives without the need to be... hateful.
Louis is very good at making people think he's an idiot when obviously he is anything but. He's also very good at making the people he interviews think that they are in control, which obviously they are not.
Watching his documentaries on Westboro and KKK back to back is really interesting. The groups have really similar views, but Westboro are really defensive about their use of swastikas and nazi salutes, saying they're not racist and they don't support nazism. But the KKK will openly call themselves racists and say white people are better. Same people, different self awareness.
Just because you're a fan of something doesn't mean that you can do (or feel comfortable doing) it. LOTS of people are fans of art but can't actually create it or feel satisfied/within their comfort zone making it. 🤷🏻♀️
Louis Theroux is the greatest documentary interviewer of our generation. His laid back, almost shy persona, gives the impression that he is a beta male, & so people are disarmed by him. I don’t think he’s a beta, just for the record, & I don’t think he plays into either, because as things progress, he’s not afraid to ask the hard questions, & often gets answers that he didn’t directly ask for, because he’s a great listener, & give someone a couple of moments of silence, & they will generally say more than intended. I found this, because I was searching “Louis Theroux angry” for a cut/paste video I’m doing, but I can’t find anything! The closest I’ve got is him raising his voice *very slightly* 😂
Besides his brilliant achievements and bravery ...can we please talk about, how good he aged over 25 years? I like his appearance a lot more now than in the 90s. He is like a fine wine 👌 I hope, he keeps his money folding and his Fiat is still running strong (I know I know ... italian cars are crap and he most likely never owned one ... but still) 👌😁👍
Confrontational people are always trying to get a specific reaction that justifies hostility, I think he demonstrates how control through intelligent thinking can prevent this behaviour from happening. If you know what these people are doing all you have to do is not give them the response they are looking for, let your logical side have the stage and keep your emotions locked away out of sight! So often people are emotionally reactive to people that mean nothing to them but have an opinion that opposes their own, the reaction is to the opinion, but in that moment, if the person with the opinion means nothing to you, don’t allow their stupid opinion to matter either, just remind yourself that you don’t care and don’t react. The world would be a better place if we remind ourselves that people form stupid misguided and biased opinions all the time and engaging them is a waste of energy
