To explain the "fat" jokes - the ectress playing Natalie got a lot of grief from the press at the time about gaining weight. The writers decided by bringing it up again and again to show how ridiculously wrong it was and they made her the love interest of both the President and the Prime Minister to make sure everyone would get how beautiful she was.
Hi Nova, This is a UK film. A happy ending is never guaranteed. We start our children early with films like THE SNOWMAN and WATERSHIP DOWN. Both are animated films for pre-teen children and neither have a happy ending. Just smile at the happy bits while they happen, then laugh at the funny bits, and of course, shed a tear at the sad end.
This movie shows many types of love. Father and Son, first love, unrequited love, sisterly love, tempters love, love for the departed, newly weds love, workplace love, love almost lost, impossible/unlikely love, bro love, motherly love - keeping the family together for the sake of the kids, rebuilding love, love that transends language or class status. I understand Rufus's character is an angel. He is slow in wrapping the gift, it is a ploy hoping Harry will change his mind. He steps in to distract to allow the boy to run past security.
I am a European guy and have been heavily addicted to this movie for at least 10 years, still loving it a lot. There is one (strangely underrated) US-romcom which I like very much "Definitely, Maybe" - great cast, one single storyline
Favorite fun movie fact: The film makers set up hidden cameras at Heathrow airport to capture real reactions of people greeting each other at the airport. They got permission from the those with the best reactions to include them in the beginning and ending of the movie. Something about seeing those genuine reactions of real people seeing loved ones and the happiness and joy on their faces always gets me. Also, I have really been enjoying your reactions. I have subbed and I am looking forward to watching your channel in 2025, and hopefully, beyond.
I'll never forgive Alan for that necklace! and i forgot how awkward that kiss was 42:29 lol... as for my fav romcoms, "10 things i hate about you" is my number one, followed by the cinematic masterpiece that is fifty shades freed
It's good it's not all sunshine and rainbows, it is about love though in many forms. All the best for Christmas and have a happy new year from the Netherlands!
There is a Red Nose Day short that follows up on this movie, you get to see where a lot of them are 10-15 years later. Some of the writing issues were definitely an of the times situation but some of it is British culture and how British humor works
You should really watch Notting Hill (same writer). Don't usually like rom coms. Most the ones I like are by this writer/director & Indie ones IMO - this is more of a rom-drameday. Great use of music in this! In my mind Sarah & Karl wind up together after the events of the movie. This film deals with all kinds/aspects of love (new/old/heartbreak/unrequited/friends). Keira Knightly is stunning in this! 😍 You have to consider how much time & events happen off camera for each of the characters. The audience is only getting a glimpse Just adding that redistribute usually means transferring someone. Movie is thankfully NOT the usual Murican romcom. They didn't tie everything together in a neat little hokey bow. Real life is complicated & messy & rarely has the happy ending
Happy Holidays, Nova! I'm not really a fan of romcoms, though, I love romantic dramas like the Before Trilogy (1995, 2004, 2013) and 'Portrait of a Lady on Fire' (2020). The film that's closest to a romcom that I really love would be Midnight in Paris (2011).
Harry Met Sally rules. Love Notting Hill, too. Watch both every chance I get, along with As Good As It Gets. As for the encounter with the single mom when father and son begin their race to the airport, the mom is the spitting image of the woman his wife said he should hook up with after her death -- Claudia Schiffer. Yeah, the actress portraying the mom is Claudia Schiffer. The father's agog and the kid's lovin' it.
The different stories was a lot at certain points, but this was a cool watch. My favorite Rom-com is Crazy Stupid Love, with Punch Drunk Love being a close second
the 90's and early 2000's were BRUTAL with bodyshaming. Rose in Titanic was considered fat. Bridget Jones was considered fat. I remember when Shakira had the Hips don't lie -song, and the press went wild over how can someone with such huge ass and hips be famous. Anorexia and "heroine chick" was the ideal body-type back then. (I was a pre-teen then and let's just say it took me over a decade to learn accept my - totally normal - body.)
Yes, happy endings are a bit too much for many brits. Cultural differences. I'm not a fan of a very predictable story being told over and over and over. bittersweet is more romantic for some of us in Europe. European films...history of bittersweet. Life is not all tidy.
I didn’t know it was taking place in England until I watched the film. If you had watched the intro to the video, I say I have not watched the trailer for it nor do I know anything about it.
It's a cute movie, but it does have a few problems for sure. The fat jokes and that guy liking his friends new wife is just too stalkery. My favourite couple is either the write and Portuguese girl, or the prime minister.
gotta disagree, the guy kept his distance. Even in that card scene he makes it very clear that he's just letting her know how he feels without any hope or agenda

Yeah I’m not used to these kinds of rom coms/holiday movies haha. I didn’t need a happy ending just a satisfying one 😭

If you haven't seen it already, I recommend Life As We Know It. It's one of my favorite romcoms because of its underlying premise...

Bless you for the sneeze, and i see you hit the old "hide the super tiny Shrek 2 in the rom-com collage" move huh? ...nice
LOL ya caught me 😭
Not a Rom-com, but you should give "Magnolia" a chance! It's probably my favorite and most well-done example of interlinked stories
It's good it's not all sunshine and rainbows, it is about love though in many forms.

Yes that man is Rick Grimes from The Walking dead. He actually is British and his name is Andrew Lincoln.
Some Tom and Jack classics that are great: You've Got Mail/Sleepless in Sesttle, As Good as It Gets/Something's Gotta Give
37:24 that is her voice. In fact, they had to make her voice sound more child-like in post production.
Oh wow she’s so good!
@bossvnova she's done mostly voice work since. Her best-known role is probably Maceline in Adventure Time.
Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve are both taken directly from this movie. It came out before both of them.
My point being, those movies wouldn't exist if Love Actually hadn't been so popular back then.
I am aware of this, I just prefer those two. But I am aware that Love Actually came before.
Happy Holidays, Nova!

happy holidays!
Notting Hill is worth it. Great writing
my christmas movie is family stone did you watch it ?
I have not!
I literally watched love actually 8 hours ago lmao perfect timing
Hey how can one request a movie reaction? Are you on Patreon?
I'm not too big on Rom-coms, but this one was interesting and I enjoyed your reaction overall. Also W Mr. Bean Cameo that was a surprise lol
Love it! Have a great week. Everything's ice here. Lol
its freezing hereeee
best rom com is easily when harry met sally!!!
Notting Hill and When Harry Met Sally are my favorites. Great reaction! Happy holidays!

This was my first time seeing this and I agree the ending is unsatisfactory, not a bad movie tho

Great reaction! Interesting movie. Unlocked some crazy memories i had when the guy got the gift for the other girl but otherwise great job!
Lmao not the whiplash from the gift scene
You are the most beautiful person, and I have to say your name (here anyway) is one of my favorite Pixies albums ever
I only recently saw Dinner in America, but it quickly became my favorite rom com.
Great choice of movie, my favorite would have to be The Ugly Truth

Oh man, haven’t thought about Mr Woodcock in years. Underrated. You should totally check out his Bad Santa movies.
Maybe I willll. Mr Woodcock is so funny haha
This is my favorite! Please react to Notting hill with Hugh Grant and Julia Robert's! Pretty woman if you haven't seen it.
Tie between When Harry Met Sally and The Apartment are my 2 favorite rom com. I also love rom coms.
I have been meaning to watch when harry met sally!
26:44 🤣🤣🤣
Just Friends with Ryan Reynolds...one of the best!
My faves are How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and The Holiday ❤
the mom from Ozark is on here ??? Damn everyone in this movie 😭
Lmao like I’m saying
Please react to The Accountant with Ben Affleck and Anna Kendrick!
I liked the Wedding Singer, if that's a rom com.

Thank you!
thank god she got mic have a stand :)
I’ve always had one I was just so tired of holding my mic hahaha

Okay, so, I think none of the romances were normal, I think that was the point of the movie.
I can`t believe you don`t know any of these actors.

Hardly surprising that they have a British accent in the movie since it almost entirely takes place in England. Or what do you think?
