Thank you both for sharing. I've been playing harmonica for a really long time, and so many of the thoughts Roly conveyed affirmed my own experiences. Thanks again.
Great video guys. Roly s book is fantastic refreshing encouraging text. I have read through 3 time so far with notes all over the place. A great approach and every harp player should get one in my opinion. Thanks Jonah for the interview. Great job.
I've been taking the harmonica seriously for about 10 years. I've been jamming for 6 years. I've watched tons of videos. I've spent many hours practicing at home. But none of that has taught me as much as the experience of jamming.
Rolyis one of my Favorites also. Great musician all around. Better to tell people you’re a harmonica player than a pedal steel guutarist. At least people know what a harmonica is 😂
Hey Shane! Thanks for watching; I've been checking out your stuff on facebook for a while. I'd love to connect, maybe we can do something similar! If you're into it, email me and we can chat! jonah@harmonicarevolution.com
Great video! I’m loving my harmonica learning journey. I love the harmonica. I need to get Roly’s book. Roly Platt is amazing! So are you Jonah! I’ve learned a lot from you this first year I’ve been learning. I can’t imagine how someone could learn such a complex instrument before the internet? Guess you had to know someone or a private teacher? I’m blessed!
Gosh this is soooo what I needed to hear. Everything he says about jams - I’m starting in that world now. Terrifying. Love his thoughts on it and how the stress eases as time passes and we alan relax and eventually express ourselves . 😊
Roly's Over the Rainbow was also one of my earliest inspirations. Must have listened to it 100 times! When people asked why I'm learning this instrument I'd play that to them.
Very interesting and informative, thank you, Johah. You could have also asked him about the way he holds his harp, which is very much at a slant, with the high end up, and is a way I don't think anyone else uses.
I didn't bother asking cause I'm pretty sure it's just a decision for his own personal ergonomics and it's just not something that would be super interesting to talk about. But yeah, it is something he does pretty different than most players, but it's probably just cause he finds it more comfortable.
So guitarist here… I play mostly in the style of blues rock.. and I was given a nice harmonica in C… I have to ask… I’ve seen this harmonica that is in the blues scale… I find myself just looking for these notes on the C harmonica… Is there a down side to just getting the blues scale harmonica? Seems like a waste of time searching for the holes lol…
You mainly lose flexibility and adaptability being able to switch between different styles of playing in the same position, or being able to play in multiple positions where you may not be able to on an alternate tuned harmonica. Keep in mind that alternate sound pretty different. They're worth trying, I would just suggest getting either one of the harmonica he mentioned, or maybe a standard natural minor harmonica, or even a wilde tuned harp. I personally don't like or recommend the P Pentaharp which is the main harmonica marketed for this purpose.

@@HarmonicaRevolution Maybe not "super interesting," but when you're really into harmonica it's all interesting.
Ich halte die Mundharmonika genauso.
Also Autodidakt ist es für mich so einfacher Einzelne Töne zu spielen und zu biegenm
@@wernervolkner2371 I'm also self-taught. 🙂
