Wow! I've never heard of Rise of the Ranger, but after that introduction and comparison to The Bound and the Broken, I'm definitely going to look into it!
Can’t wait to hear what you think about Riyria chronicles. Ill be starting Heir Of Novron in January, found out about Riyria through you and I am loving revelations on my first read! Will definitely be reading chronicles eventually
Just finished Morningstar earlier this week. What a finish to the first red rising trilogy. Couldn’t put those books down!! Going to be starting up iron gold the weekend after Christmas. Had to have the happy ending for a little bit before the next set of books! So happy I finally got around to reading this series
My January TBR will mostly be finishing up the books I couldn’t finish in December. 😂 However, Witchcraft for Wayward Girls will definitely be on the top of my list. Grady Hendrix is steadily becoming a top favorite author for me. And Lightfall is absolutely going on my ever expanding TBR ‘cause vampires/werewolves will always be something I can’t pass on. Hope you and yours have a very merry Christmas! 😊
My January has Gardens of the Moon, Curse of the Mistwraith, The Fall, and The Way of Edan. Couple big boys right out of the gate, but I hope it means a strong start as well. I had to push my foray into Echoes to March, but I’m looking forward to seeing your response to it in the discord.
I’m really excited to hear your thoughts on the whole trilogy of Prince of Nothing. In January I hope to read: 1. Empire of Silence 2. The Old Man and the Sea 3. Howling Dark 4. The Time Machine or The Winter King 5. The Way of Kings
I will be starting the Echoes Saga in January as well And I'm also going to finish reading The Tainted Cup, which I started this week. And whatever else I can fit in around the edges
I'm finishing Malice right now (which btw I have not audibly shrieked "wtf" and "nooo" during the ending of a book in so long) and I'm 100% finishing the series before the end of January. An absolute banger! Thank you so much for hyping up Faithful and the Fallen.
Interested to hear your opinion on Rise of the Ranger. My friend and I traded recs and that's what he wanted me to read. He liked it a lot, and I thought it was one of the most boring books I've ever read lol. Also, if you're unaware, it's a 9 book series, split into 3 trilogies.
I read Rise Of The Ranger earlier this month and thoroughly enjoyed it! The second book in the series is on my January TBR. I'll be keeping an eye out for your review 👀
I'm happy to see you returning to the Riyria,I still have to read Drumindor. I'm very excited for January,my plans are: Lonesome Dove,The Gunslinger, finally I start the Dark Tower and The Witchood Crown, loved M,S&T,can't wait to see what this sequel series can deliver.
Merry Christmas Mike hope you have a great one filled with love and joy! I'll be digging into Storm light 5 and The New Jedi Order Dark Journey, along with finishing up The Heart of What Was Lost.
My January TBR is heavy on mysteries with a scifi and a pulp fantasy thrown in: "The Last Dance" (Ed McBain), "Foundation's Edge" (Isaac Asimov), "Takedown Twenty" (Janet Evanovich), "Scorpius" (John Gardner), "The Mystery of the Blue Train" (Agatha Christie), "The Burglar Who Met Fredric Brown" (Lawrence Block), and "The Moon Man" (Edgar Rice Burroughs).
I’ll be starting The first law, then also got Howling dark, empire of the vampire and Cujo on deck haha, mite throw new Grady Hendrix in there myself,Happy holidays! 🤘🎄🎅🎉
Mike, I just wanted to say thank you for turning me on to Lonesome Dove, I am roughly 60% through it now and it has become my new obsession. Excited to see your thoughts on Lightfall I may have to try that one out. My #1 priority for next year though is to finish ASOIAF. Have a Merry Christmas!
I just finished reading the original red rising trilogy. It completely stole my heart and is now my favorite series ever and with that said after watching this video and seeing Mike's shirt I niw want to mive on to iron gold instead of taking a break from the series to read some horror like i was going to
I really hope you like the Echoes saga Mike. I thought it was so much fun. Just fast paced traditional fantasy with incredibly likeable characters. You absolutely can take breaks in between. Each trilogy has a time skip with new characters coming in but still best to be read somewhat close together in my opinion.
I have been slow at reading so my entire year was Red Rising. Think Empire of Silence might be the way to go next (hoping to double my books read to around 30 or so so might get in a lot more than that, like The Expanse)
i will continue on with A Clash of Kings if I don't get to finish this month, the proceed to A Storm of Swords, also will start after all these years books by Mary Beard, starting with Confronting the Classics ....
I've been itching to read some werewolf books recently, so I'll definitely be adding Lightfall to my list! Would also love some other recommendations for books with werewolves in em...horror over fantasy preferred, but any suggestions would be great!
You have some great books lined up for January, I actually find that Hendrix does a great mix of horror and humor, you never know which one will whack you over the face, especially reading something like his How to Sell a Haunted House, I really liked that one, there's a word from it that I always laugh when I say it, don't want to spoil what it is but it still cracks me up almost two years after reading it.
Looking at the unread pile I decided my first new read of 2025 will be a return to Jim Butcher and his Dresden Files. I am at 'Proven Guilty' in that series. My reread for January will be Peter Straub - 'The Throat'. I meant to reread it last year. I had reread 'Koko' and did a first read of 'Mystery' and realized still needed to finish off the 'Blue Rose Trilogy' before rejoining the journey to The Dark Tower. Graphic novels I am still undecided as I finish off my current 52 issue compendium of Spawn. I am leaning towards catching up on Star Wars (Marvel) or Something is Killing the Children (Boom).
Nice list! I'll most likely start the year reading The Paper Mangerie by Ken Liu. Haven't read any of his books yet and I've been told this is a good entry point.
Hi Mike, Merry Christmas! I have those 5 books by Michael J Sullivan but decided to read Legends of First Empire first because it was a sequel of sorts. I really loved the story and writing of the series, however the ending was so bad for me. Makes me leary of reading the series your talking about.
Lightfall sounds good to me as well, plan on reading The Two Towers and Return of the King, and maybe I'll finish reading my stack of Keeper of the Lost Cities . It all depends on what kinda of reading material I get at Christmas
Right now I've got Shogun and The Shadow of What was Lost. I'm thinking about getting back to Sigma Force with The Last Oracle by James Rollins as well.
Great TBR Mike! I can’t wait to get to Bakker and The Echo Saga (given the stacked readalongs this year it’ll have to wait till 2026, but living vicariously through you in the meantime lol 😊) Can’t wait to hear what you think of Janny Wurts! I read the gallant prequel novella this month and it’s a great entry point to WOLAS if you haven’t checked it out
@ oh hell yeah! Cant wait to hear what you think of that series! Hope the schedule isn’t too crazy for us haha I tried to keep things as spaced out as I could 😊
Ugh, can't get Quantrell on Kobo :( Lightfall sounds like fun! Yay Royce and Hadrian!!!! That's a blast of a read!!! Personal plans; Either start The Road or Shogun Continue Licanius Maybe do a Lonesome Dove prequel
The Riyria prequel stand alone books are amazing! I’m starting the last king of osten ard series by Tad Williams (and they are chunky so that will take some time)
You got me interested in Lightfall! Might have to buy it now 😁 I’m going to start Malazan in January right after I finish Wheel of Time. Happy Holidays Mike! 🎄
In 2025, I would like to read "Dune," "Shogun," "Gone with the Wind," and "Count of Monte Cristo." However, I do also really need to hunker down and read the last book of "The Expanse," as well as the final book of the "Protectorate" series by Megan O'Keefe. There's no way that I'll get all of that done, but I do feel that Mike is spot on in his recommendations, so I've bumped a lot of his must reads to the top. There are a bunch of fantasy novels that I want to try, but I want to get through the essentials first. Thus, I'll keep plugging away. :)
Great selection but I'm now facing a dilemma - I read Echo Saga 2 years ago and I'm wondering if it's too soon for a re-read, as it would be good to go through them at the same time as you experience them for the first time
I read book 1 of The Ranger Archives and that featured Asher transitioning from assassin to ranger, so I wonder how that's connected to the one you're gonna read? :) At the rate I'm going, it will probably take me til sometime in February to finish Wind and Truth. I'm just burnt out and don't feel like reading anything.
A horror author I’d love for you to try if you haven’t already is Nat Cassidy. He’s written a couple of books that he says are inspired by his love for Stephen King. Nestlings which is his unique take on vampires/ish and also Mary that he says was inspired by Carrie. His books have some old school horror vibes and also make you uncomfortable in a great way.
That's the beauty of reading other genres. You aren't stuck reading 15 plus books just to get into and follow the world. My time is getting short. I don't have the desire to read mammoth series anymore.
Your book 1 sounds so cool!. Adding it to the list I’m wrapping up the first drizzt quartet Then some Dan Simmons horror. The Terror. Start Memory Sorrow and Thorn As I turn 30 I’ve begun entering my old man era; I feel like reading nonfiction about Ancient Greece. Idk where that came from
I have Dark Age by Pierce Brown, Zodiac Academy 1 by Caroline Peckham, Towers of Midnight by Robert Jordan and Brando Sando. I don't know what the fourth book might be yet... I'll see at that time.
Hey Mike. I'm a self published author. Do you review unsolicited material? I'm sorry to ask about this is in the comment section, but I didn't know how else to reach you!
That shirt is sick! I have been wanting to read the Echoes saga for a long time too! Those covers are incredible, and I've heard his writing is fantastic
@mikesbookreviews Hahaha I think I will! It's a slippery slope too because he has prequel novellas with those characters and also big tomes he just released last year set hundreds of years before Echoes😂 But I'm in you sonofagun!
Another early review copy?!?! How dare you! I'm going to stay subscribed to you and keep watching your videos just so that I can complain! That's how awesome my life is!

Wow! I've never heard of Rise of the Ranger, but after that introduction and comparison to The Bound and the Broken, I'm definitely going to look into it!
Rise of the Ranger!!! I read the ENTIRE Echoes Saga in 2024! It is my ABSOLUTE favorite!! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Can’t wait to hear what you think about Riyria chronicles. Ill be starting Heir Of Novron in January, found out about Riyria through you and I am loving revelations on my first read! Will definitely be reading chronicles eventually
I’ve been reading through the echoes saga over the last few months and I’m really enjoying it. I think you’ll like it a lot
Returning to Riyria and repping Red Rising, instant like!
I am but a humble servant.
I really enjoyed the Echoes Saga. It's got some great characters and the last trilogy in particular is fantastic.
I'm super hyped for it
I'm using the Christmas break to make a start on Malazan and Prince of Nothing.
Both? Why aren't you a glutton for punishment😃😂
I'm glad your videos are popping up in my feed again!💯
Witchcraft for Wayward Girls and Lightfall are on my TBR for next year! I am so excited to read those!
Rise of the Ranger was a solid book. Haven’t read book 2 yet, but I eventually will.
Rise of the Ranger has such an appealing call to me.. I’m excited to hear your thoughts. I hear great things
I’ve heard the same thing… 👀
Can't wait to see what you think of the Quaintrell books!! Those are high in my list as well
I'll let you know.
Loved Rise of the Ranger!!!
Just finished Morningstar earlier this week. What a finish to the first red rising trilogy. Couldn’t put those books down!!
Going to be starting up iron gold the weekend after Christmas. Had to have the happy ending for a little bit before the next set of books! So happy I finally got around to reading this series
Finishing "Oathbringer" for the end of the month. So my January TBR will be "Rhythm of War" and hopefully "Wind and Truth"
My January TBR will mostly be finishing up the books I couldn’t finish in December. 😂

I am definitely looking forward to the new Grady Hendrix!
I will be starting the Echoes Saga in January as well And I'm also going to finish reading The Tainted Cup, which I started this week. And whatever else I can fit in around the edges
Great start to the year 🎉
I have the echoes saga too had it for a couple years and haven’t started it. I’ll read it in January too looking forward to the review.
It’s a great time to start if you end up liking the story. There’s quite a few books in the world of Verda now 🙌🏻
I'm finishing Malice right now (which btw I have not audibly shrieked "wtf" and "nooo" during the ending of a book in so long) and I'm 100% finishing the series before the end of January. An absolute banger! Thank you so much for hyping up Faithful and the Fallen.
Just an absolutely amazing series! Keeps getting better and better!
If Malice has you feeling that way then you are going to love the rest of the series. It only gets better and better
Great video. 👌 More of this, please. It's hard to find something good that isn't mainstream.
You got it.
You’ve actually got great knowledge for someone who didn’t like book 1 👏🏻👏🏻
I read Rise Of The Ranger earlier this month and thoroughly enjoyed it! The second book in the series is on my January TBR.
I'll be keeping an eye out for your review 👀
Exciting!
MJS is always solid.
Merry Christmas Mike hope you have a great one filled with love and joy! I'll be digging into Storm light 5 and The New Jedi Order Dark Journey, along with finishing up The Heart of What Was Lost.
Merry Christmas!
Loved this video. Thank you for the recommendations. I cannot wait for Grady’s book.
Happy Holidays Mike!
Keep it up good sir.
Merry Christmas to you too!

Starting Malazan right after I finish The Lost Metal. Pray for me Mike. It’s gonna be a big journey.

I always spend January and February with catching up on books I didn't get to last year. Cause I'm always behind with something. Merry Christmas.🎄🙂

Sounds like 2025 will be a banger

Thank you mike your videos have helped me find so many great books . Marry Christmas ⛄

Lightfall sounds good to me as well, plan on reading The Two Towers and Return of the King, and maybe I'll finish reading my stack of Keeper of the Lost Cities . It all depends on what kinda of reading material I get at Christmas
Hard to miss with vamps vs lycans
@mikesbookreviews You're so right my friend.

@ oh hell yeah! Cant wait to hear what you think of that series! Hope the schedule isn’t too crazy for us haha I tried to keep things as spaced out as I could 😊
Merry Christmas to you and ur family too 🎉
Ugh, can't get Quantrell on Kobo :(
Lightfall sounds like fun!
Yay Royce and Hadrian!!!! That's a blast of a read!!!
Personal plans;
Either start The Road or Shogun
Continue Licanius
Maybe do a Lonesome Dove prequel
Really? That's a bummer.
The Riyria prequel stand alone books are amazing! I’m starting the last king of osten ard series by Tad Williams (and they are chunky so that will take some time)
You will love the Ryria Chronicles. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Likewise!
Echoes is a great 9 book series
Looking to finish Best Served Cold, Empire of the Vampire, and Throne of Glass.
You got me interested in Lightfall! Might have to buy it now 😁 I’m going to start Malazan in January right after I finish Wheel of Time. Happy Holidays Mike! 🎄

Hooray for Royce! Hooray for Hadrian!
Arcadius be like OOF
Great selection but I'm now facing a dilemma - I read Echo Saga 2 years ago and I'm wondering if it's too soon for a re-read, as it would be good to go through them at the same time as you experience them for the first time
Never too soon for a re-read… 😉
Its cool you have the same coffee mug as I do!😅
I read book 1 of The Ranger Archives and that featured Asher transitioning from assassin to ranger, so I wonder how that's connected to the one you're gonna read? :)
At the rate I'm going, it will probably take me til sometime in February to finish Wind and Truth. I'm just burnt out and don't feel like reading anything.
Well, 9-year-old Asher was in the prologue.
@@mikesbookreviews Ah! Seems like I might have started somewhere in the middle then lmao
Idk why i care so much about a 40 something year old dudes reading...but BOY DO I. Happy reading mike!
Ha ha happy to hear it

Your book 1 sounds so cool!. Adding it to the list
I’m wrapping up the first drizzt quartet
Then some Dan Simmons horror. The Terror.
Start Memory Sorrow and Thorn
As I turn 30 I’ve begun entering my old man era; I feel like reading nonfiction about Ancient Greece. Idk where that came from
Excellent!
Lightfall has me intrigued 🤔
DEWIT
I have Dark Age by Pierce Brown, Zodiac Academy 1 by Caroline Peckham, Towers of Midnight by Robert Jordan and Brando Sando. I don't know what the fourth book might be yet... I'll see at that time.
Dark Age is a journey. I'll leave it at that.
Maybe I start Revelations by MJS, I want you to do Oathbringer. Maybe reread shining cause it’s getting snowy. Or try Misery or Dreamcatcher
All good picks!
My main read for January is Anna Karenina.
Hey Mike. I'm a self published author. Do you review unsolicited material? I'm sorry to ask about this is in the comment section, but I didn't know how else to reach you!
Email me. Zepp1978 @ Gmail
Man I wish I could read 4 books a month!
That must be a steep page count 😅.
For me I will still be wading through Malazan in January.
That shirt is sick! I have been wanting to read the Echoes saga for a long time too! Those covers are incredible, and I've heard his writing is fantastic

Heyy Mike 👍 yay for Horror inclusion
just wondering Mike where did you get your mug from
Where would you suggest starting with Michael J Sullivan?

I have planned A Storm of Swords and Night Watch by Pratchett!

Check out The Gathering by C.J. Tudor Vampires in Alaska ! what's not to like.

@ You were the one who a lot of us, but you're slacking on the series. Tisk, tisk. Just joking. Read it whenever you are in the mood
Bound and the broken sucks ass. That’s not even a hot take. It’s just facts.
