I wish that doctors took us more seriously (especially chronic illness warriors) when we say we feel sick. From watching your videos I know your not one to complain unless your feeling like utter crud and even then your stoic. Hope the transfusion helps you feel back to your normal soon.

alysebell1 totally, as someone is chronically ill, we know how our body works and when something is wrong. I hope that this will help you get to feeling better Amy .

I just got out of hospital today after being in for 5 days. i went to A&E because i was going dizzy, my resting heart rate was 120 and higher. My blood count was 62, and my iron was 2! I was so shocked!! Thank you to all of the blood donors who are reading this, you potentially saved my life.

I had to stop this 2mins 30secs in, 😢 this makes me so very sad, why couldn't these "doctors" help Amy before she got into this state?!? Seeing her wait for Tom and she looked barely able to speak! Oh my gosh, it makes me so angry smh

I have EDS, O+ blood, and surprisingly amazing veins. I try to donate whenever I can because maybe one day I’ll need it 🤷🏼‍♀️ It’s one of the ways I feel as though I can help others, although I know not everyone can do it, which is okay.
My grandpa just passed on 12/11 and was an avid O+ donator as well. I wanted to donate on Christmas as my “gift” in memory of him but unfortunately I have a sinus infection and on antibiotics currently. No donating for me but hopefully in the future!
    Wishing you lots of spoons!

So glad you are getting the medical treatment you need now! I am just sitting here soaking up the Harry Potter decorations! That was amazing!! Wonder if people would think me crazy if I decorate my house using some of those ideas? I guess Harry Potter trivia nights would have to become a 'thing" for it to all make sense! Hope the transfusion makes you feel like yourself again!! Like you say, At least you will be out in time for Christmas at home!!

Our Bloodbank criteria for blood transfusions at my hospital is a Hgb below 8, unless the patient is actively bleeding. Reason is a lot of things can go wrong in a transfusion (you can develop antibodies, get transfusion reactions, bloodborne infections the center hasn't tested for [eg. Malaria is pretty difficult to detect], etc). I hope you feel better Amy ❤❤

    • @mayelaine2
      @mayelaine2 6 ปีที่แล้ว

@Nicole Inkling "fit" is the perfect word, but the questionnaire is tedious and confusing. Many people think they know the answers, but then realize they're not accurate. In the years I've been working I think I've only had one or two cases of quarantine of products and they were of suspected malaria/"blood worms". Again, these are rare cases, but still occur.
Regardless, if the patient needs immediate blood to survive, transfusion reactions or any other risks become not as important.

I’m so happy I have a good doctor. I don’t have anything like you, but I did just find out I have a (mild) condition that has been causing all of my pain and problems. I just wish I had somebody who cares like Tom does for you. When I was given my diagnosis and treatment options today, I called my SO to tell him, and his only response was “if you already made your decision of what treatment you’re getting, why did you bother telling me the whole story. You could have just said what you were doing” and then when he got home he didn’t even speak to me. I know it’s his defense mechanism, and he’ll come around in a few days, but it hurt.

  • @chronicallynicole8392

I know when it comes to chronic illness, that if you present your knowledge too strongly to a doctor you've not established a history with it seems to intimidate them and in my experience they tend "drag their feet" getting treatment you ask for even if you're right. In one of the seminars for my illness we touched on this topic, and it helps if you have all of your doctors within the same network to keep an open line of communication. If I go to see a new doctor like a specialist I always have my primary care doctor send the specialist a message with all the technical crap he or she needs to know.

Blood transfused from one person to another, with a stop in between where it rests in a bag.
Iron infuses from bag to person. No 'trans' ( from one thing to the next) involved.

I have Spina Bifida and before I aged out of Spina Bifida clinic at my “local” hospital one of the tests I had to do was a urodynamics study because I have a neurogenic bladder meaning I have to catheterize and they would put sensors like that all along my bottom and a few times the girl that hooked and unhooked me did all the unhooking first and then took off the sticky pads and she forgot one each time and because I basically have no feeling for sensing that I’m sitting on something like that I found it a day or so later when I went in that area for whatever reason.

OMG I absolutely hate the heart monitor sticky pads, they hurt bad when you take then off. I ussually endbup with big red rings from them. Prayers that everything goes as planned and you feel better soon.

Just curious how come they brought you to resus?? Where I am they only use resus for super sick/super injured....do they know why your hemoglobin went from 110 to 72? That is a big change in only a week.....are they worried you are bleeding somewhere?? Sorry- so many questions!! Feel better!

So glad you got what you needed! It’s so messed up in my opinion that in order to get the treatment we need, we have to reach certain point of sick, like in order for me to finally get a PoTS diagnosis I had to go to the emergency room after a week of not being able to move without passing out or almost passing out. Anyway really hope this helps you Amy! You deserve to feel better

Hello I just found you today! I have EDS as well and last summer I had to get a blood transfusion after my stomach lining ripped because of a bleeding ulcer from my meds. I live in Ohio but was camping in Maine (they’re like at least 18hrs apart driving like I do)with my new college and it was literally my first week there, and since we were so deep in the woods we had to drive over an hour on backroads to get to the hospital. Basically we were just eating dinner and I felt mostly fine until I just started vomiting straight blood and getting really lightheaded. And since I have NCS as well I thought it might just be that but they drove me to the hospital anyways and evidently I could have died so I was super grateful. There were more uncomfy aspects and several days in the ICU as well but that’s the just of my last experience with a transfusion. Not 100% sure why I’m posting this but it’s really nice hearing from a fellow zebra, so keep doing what you’re doing please! P.s. those stickies are the WORST

I'm so glad you were able to get iron and blood! Why didn't they use your line for blood draws and the transfusion? They use mine for everything. That's awful they had to poke you so much. You should feel better really soon! I always feel great afterwards. Are they checking your b12 and vitamin d levels? Both of those can make you feel more fatigued. Have a good night!

Doctor's!! Bleh. I remember when my iron deficiency anemia was bad. I would know when I was going low, doctors would never listen until I ended up in the er with a 6.0 hemoglobin and unable to breath without oxygen because I was too low. I always felt the same as you, if they would of just listened..... I think I've had blood transfusions 4 times now.

I'm sorry you are having to deal with this sweetie,. To ALL the asses on your Instagram that were saying it wasn't necessary for a transfusion Drs. In Australia DID go to medical school so if something isn't needed , it probably wouldn't happen. I do wish people wouldn't be do judgemental online without having all the information. It's just not kind.
BIG HUGE HUGS TO YOU ❤️ SWEETIE. SENDING A. MAMA BEAR HUG. hope that this helps you feel better.
My daughter received blood products that saved her life when she was one year old. She was hospitalized a week. They called from Drs office even before we had gotten back home from appointment. Told us an ambulance would be transporting us because if we had gotten into wreck and she lost even a little bit of blood she could go into organ failure. So AMEN TO THANKING ALL THOSE WHO DONATE !!!!!!

I feel so behind on your vlogs!😔 I am one week out from surgery #5 for my endometriosis, I had an appendectomy as well and my bowels fixed too. Recovery is not fun. Then one week before that my sis gave birth to her twins at 33 weeks via emerg c section. We have been very very busy. I am trying to slowly get caught up on vlogs in between naps and feeds. Babies are home now too so I am taking care of my sis and babies while I’m supposed to be recovering. Chronic illness can’t keep us down! Miss you Amy and Tom of course too....!

Ooohh hun! We know our bodies so well, and it's soooooo frustrating when our team of "specialists" refuse to listen to us. My new GI for example..I thought at first it was a good fit because he ordered a gastric emptying study and HIDA scan. Then I read the referral note the ignorant ass wrote. Apparently, "Erler Danlos Syndrome has no real GI manifestations..." can't wait to get my hands on the radiology reports from this week! I plan to "educate" the so called "specialist" quite nicely.

When it’s around 4:30AM in the states, but the notification woke you up, and you HAVE TO check on sweet Amy. I’m praying for you darling, keep your head up. You are the most positive person I know of. I know you will pull through, as usual. ♥️✨
